The town also hosts popular cultural events and festivals that highlight regional traditions and draw visitors from across the country.
With favorites like Paleontological Research Center, Villa de Leyva Main Square, and Pozos Azules, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. Villa de Leyva Main Square is a famous cobblestone plaza surrounded by handicraft shops, cafes, and a colonial church. The town hosts events like the jazz festival with performances at the San Francisco Cloister and the Main Square. Visitors can also explore the well-preserved colonial architecture and landmarks like Villa de Leyva Cathedral. Nearby attractions include Granja de Avestruces, an animal park where children can feed ostriches, as well as museums for those seeking indoor activities.
Main square with tons of restaurants, hotels and souvenir shops. There is no street parking and traffic is very congested during the weekends. There are plenty of paid parking lots around the main square so best is to park there and walk to square.
Emeer — Google review
One of the greatest places I have been. The energy is incredible here. Great place to relax and connect with nature as well. There's many restaurants and coffee shops around the plaza.
Javier L — Google review
Obviously, a must see a place given it’s history and cultural significance. It is the heart and most iconic landmark of Villa de Leyva. It was built in the 16th century and is renowned for its vast cobblestone expanse—at 14,000 square meters. This makes it the largest town square in Colombia and one of the largest in the Americas. We enjoyed the colonial architecture and the Central Fountain which is a carved stone fountain that historically supplied water to the town.
Ross D — Google review
A very large plaza with lots of eateries facing on to it and in the nearby streets. The church has many steps outside which make a perfect spot to enjoy the space and people watch.
Ruth K — Google review
Beautiful town with a lot of history. Impressive main square.
ASM T — Google review
Jeez this place is picturesque. I was told it was the largest Stone Plaza in Colombia and possibly in South America. Stunning views in all directions and a lively atmosphere, I'm assuming most Friday and Saturday nights.? Lots of people strolling around the edges, eating and drinking and just having a good time. Beware if you have a stroller or if you're carting along an old person who can't walk well, it's very tough to move about the interior of the plaza, otherwise an amazing place to be.
Tony H — Google review
Amazing plaza in the middle of the town, has great dining places all around and the main chapel is really pretty.

Museo del Chocolate Villa de leyva

4.3
(5067)
Chocolate shop
Nestled in the heart of Villa de Leyva's historic center, Museo del Chocolate Villa de Leyva is a delightful and educational attraction created by La Chocolateria de Villa de Leyva. This charming museum offers a rich experience where visitors can delve into the history of chocolate while indulging in an array of artisanal cocoa-based products. Whether you're keen on learning about chocolate's origins or simply eager to savor its delicious offerings, this museum has something for everyone.
The Chocolate Museum in Villa de Leyva is a charming and unique place. Its cozy atmosphere and themed décor make the visit a wonderful experience. The variety of chocolates, desserts, and drinks is delightful, especially the chocolate beer, which is both original and unique. There’s also a shop where you can buy artisanal products, perfect as souvenirs or gifts. An ideal spot to enjoy with your partner, friends, or family, blending history, flavor, and magic all in one.
Cristobal J — Google review
This is by far, one of the WORST tourist traps ever in both Colombia and Villa de Leyva. Overpriced, tasteless chocolate, poor quality beer. The beer price was $22.000 COP and didn't even have gas, so that should tell you a lot about how the packaging was for this "craft beer". The chocolate bars were $25.000 each, and honestly, Jet or Colombina have by far better chocolate than these people. The chocolate fountain was fake. The museum itself it's not bad, but that is the only good thing I can say about this place. Not recommended. I'd rather try a glass of wine nearby or even the milhojas two blocks away from this nightmare, which are really, really good.
Camille — Google review
The restaurant’s concept is interesting, but the overall experience was not the best. The use of chocolate in every preparation becomes overwhelming after a while, as there isn’t enough variety in flavors. Customer service is very basic: they only take the order and respond when called, showing little interest in the service or follow-up at the tables. In addition, waiting times are long, not only on busy days, which could be understandable but also when the place is empty, which makes the experience even more disappointing.
Santiago T — Google review
This is such an awesome place to drink a hot chocolate or any kind of desert, food and service are great. It has a lot of spots to take pictures inside the place. They let you in to enjoy the decoration of the place even though you don’t eat there. I loved that. They really took care of every detail. Highly recommended.
Jackeline G — Google review
I heritage on this posting as parts were excellebt and other were difficult. This place was a zoo and very difficult to buy anything. It took over a half hour just to stand in a busy line to buy some small chocolate and a beer. The staff seemed unable to ring in a cash register and it took three people to do it. Now the beer was amazing and the museum always also with the visit (free with purchase). If you don't like crowds don't go

🥘: 9/10.Excuse me I thought it was a chocolate museum, BUT the food was darn good! My friend ordered the lasagna and it was the best I have ever had in my life, very creamy, gensour with a lot of cheese, chicken and beef! Very flavorful and you don't feel overwhelmed by the cheese, it was the perfect portion and very filling! Highly recommend! I got the spinach and tomato omelette, the Meat pizza and they are so delicious! I really appreciate that they are so generous with their food portion and ingredients! And of course the chocolate was amazing! Hot cholate was very rich, creamy, and NOT TOO Sweet!!! Love it! 🧑🏻‍🍳: 8/10: Great service! The waiter that served us is very nice and friendly! She is very gentle and professional! I have a great time there! 📍: 10/10: OMG am I alive in the wonderland? Cuz the flowers, plants, mirrors, bears and all the other decors are giving wonderland! I can't even describe my experience in words, one picture speaks louder than my words! It was beautiful, stunning and like a girl living in her dream house! Look at the pictures to know what I am talking about! The chocolate museum was really chevere! I loved it and had a great time there looking gat the chocolate history!

Restaurant
Mercado Municipal is a charming restaurant located in the northeastern corner of Parque de Narino. The establishment, run by renowned chefs Mario Martinez and Laura Jaramillo, offers a wide range of gastronomic delights in a spacious and well-designed setting. Specializing in Mexican-inspired barbecue meats cooked in wood-fired ovens, the menu is not only extensive but also creative and original.
Beautiful inn courtyard with good vegan and vegetarian options. The variety of the vegetables for the curry were surprisingly great. Very delicious and fair price. We can recommend the restaurant.
Ancestral R — Google review
We ordered the beef. It was tender, as expected for Souvi cooking, but without the sauce it didnt have any flavour. For this price point I expected both good presentation and good food. Some of the rice was also hard, which is typical if it has been in the pot too long, or they scraped the sides. I expect they can do better, maybe we were there at the wrong time or ordered the wrong dish
Leynard T — Google review
This is a really nice place. I love the setup of the restaurant—it's hidden, but once you enter, you find yourself in a pleasant garden. The food is delicious, especially the pizza. I'm not sure if it's a place I would visit again, but it's definitely worth a try.
Nhige D — Google review
Restaurant was excellent! The whole atmosphere is really good, I went with a group of people from Europe and they were amazed about the quality of the food and the service! Absolutely coming back . Desserts are a no brainer, so delicious !
David M — Google review
The entrance to the place is a bit hidden but the food worth it. I tried the "mil milhoja de pavo" is a great dish with a wonderful taste and presentation. The attention was awesome despite the place was very busy.
Andres S — Google review
We ordered the lamb barbacoa. What we got was microwaved meat. Very chewy. The coffee was cold as well. Had to ask them to reheat it. Wont recommend anyone.
Souvik D — Google review
We tried the guacamole chips (for sure our favorites), the barbacoa pavito and the posta negra. They all had really good flavors. We liked the place so much that we went 2 days in a row. One day we had the refajo, which was perfect for a warm day, and other day we have blackberry juice, which was great, and natural lemonade which was a little sour but they were nice enough to bring us some sugar
Estefanía E — Google review
Wonderful food in a really beautiful garden setting. Loved my time here so much that came here twice during my short visit. The pizza was not spectacular, but everything else, the meet and the deserts were amazing. Highly recommend (except for the pizza...).

Restaurant
El Divino - Hamburguesas is a burger joint situated in a bustling food court near Plaza Mayor, making it an ideal spot for group lunches with its variety of dining options. The burgers are made with quality meat and served fresh, although some find them slightly smaller than expected. The accompanying fries are crispy on the outside and soft inside, adding to the satisfying meal experience. While the ambiance is pleasant, it can get noisy at times.
This is a great place. Indoors outdoors. Outdoor bar. Awesome staff. Love the way last Saturday they put out tablecloths on the bar.
Simon F — Google review
It’s a decent Angus beef burger. It’s located in a food court. The building was constructed in 1585. So that neat. Service is very slow.
Jeffrey S — Google review
This place is located on a street right off Plaza Mayor and it’s in a “food court” type of environment. So if you’re with a group that and you want several choices to eat, this is a good choice for lunch. Like most burger places in Colombia, the quality of the meat is good. The burgers are made fresh and it was tasty for sure. It was a little smaller than I thought it would be. The fries were crunchy outside and soft inside, so they were good too.
Brad L — Google review
If you want to have a terrible experience, give it a try. What a waste of space in Casa Quintero

Nestled in the vibrant Plaza de Comida at El Atico, Yoko is a must-visit for anyone craving Asian cuisine in Villa de Leyva. This charming eatery specializes in sushi, but its menu also boasts an impressive selection of ramen, pho, and various fried rice and noodle dishes that cater to diverse palates. El Atico itself is a delightful courtyard filled with several dining options, including Mexican fare from Tacologia and artisanal pizzas from La Pinta Carta Pizzeria.
We loved it! Our fave Shoyu Ramen and Beef Pho 💯
Kris A — Google review
It's in a food mall. The Google moa location is wrong - it's about 50 or so meters away. Katsua Ramen - Literally less than a full fork of noodles. Uninspiring broth - just overpowered by vinegar. Overcooked pork. Service.. miserable teenage service, but hey can't hold that against them too much. Atmosphere - it's a new build so looks like something that could be in Dubai really. Very much a false vibe. However, there is a lot of effort gone into the decor.

Great Pad Thai and Shoyu Ramen
M S — Google review
This is a review for the ramen lovers: This isn't a place to get your ramen fix. The broth tasted too much like rice vinegar and the noodles were overcooked. Also, the portion is very small. But the eggs were good, though!
Kam V — Google review
They talk about traditional asian food but everything was disappointed. High prices and poor quality.
Gilles G — Google review
A great option for tastey vegetarian food. We loved the pad Thai! A bit expensive but overall worth it for the shitake mushrooms.

We tried 2 different ramen and the soup it self, the meat or the noodles were really bad. Sushi was okayish, also a nice area around there. Anyways, sadly would not go again.

Hotel Plaza Mayor Villa de Leyva offers a cozy stay with its comfortable rooms and suites, as well as event spaces for conferences. Situated in the heart of Villa de Leyva, it provides easy access to Casa Museo Luis Alberto Acuna and Iglesia Parroquial. Guests can enjoy scenic views from the rooftop terrace and garden, along with complimentary wireless internet access. The hotel also features a restaurant where guests can savor satisfying meals.
The location was very convenient. It’s across from the church of Plaza Mayor. The thing I liked the most was the shower. The breakfast was also great because it’s not in the hotel but they give u three choices from outside restaurants. The Frutipico restaurant was excellent.
Sandra S — Google review
One of the worst serviced hotels I’ve ever been to. customer service is an absolute joke. Rude staff and construction every morning.. no disclosure when we check in, told us it was just for a second, woke up every morning to construction. This place absolutely sucks
Jonathan K — Google review
Stayed here for a few nights for a wedding. The rooms are a bit dated, breakfast is lacking. The location is unbeatable and the views of the surrounding mountains and the main square are fantastic.
Luis B — Google review
Prime location as Infront of main square. Breakfast options are excellent as you can choose from 4 local venues. No food or drink available at hotel, no iron, ironing board, mini bar or hairdryer in room and then you pay an additional charge to hire a seat on the balcony to watch festival fireworks on top of an already over priced room. The balcony had limited tables so we had to eat takeaway pizza using plastic chairs as a table after paying $120+ AUD per night to stay.
Martin S — Google review
Good facilities, excellent location, gently staff, great breakfast. Only 3 things why don't get 5 stars: 1.Very noisy at night, no control for guests who arrive late making a lot of noise. 2. They don't really clean deeply the rooms, after 3 days, never check the showers don't restock soap and shampoo and don't clean the floor 3. Towels feels like sandpaper, horrible!
Constanza G — Google review
It was not a good experience. The service was subpar and overpriced. The water in the shower was erratic, you either get frozen or scalding hot water. There were roaches in the rooms. The so called buffet was eggs and rolls. No fruit or anything else. The bar on the top floor was limited. I do not recommend staying here, there are many other places that are nicer and more reasonably priced.
Stephany R — Google review
This hotel was an horror story … 1st room was smelling like a mouldy basement 2nd the fright cought in fire the shower could not hold temperature and the bed was terrible… stays are not refundable so we switched to a 3rd room that was ok the door to the public balcony doesn’t lock ( just a hook ) so was really awkward to leave my bag inside considering that basically anyone could go inside… At least the housekeeping staff was nice. ( and it was kinda not cheap for something that awful ( and the wifi was also bad but manageable))

Excellent place, located in front of the most relevant place in Villa de Leyva. Close to the restaurants and local stores. This place has a fresh environment. It is decorated and designed with local construction techniques. Additionally, it has a beautiful view of the main square.

Tu Mejor Cocina Colombiana is a delightful restaurant nestled in the charming town of Villa de Leyva, where culinary traditions from across Colombia come to life. This inviting spot is perfect for gathering with family or friends, offering an extensive menu that showcases regional specialties. Diners rave about the delicious empanadas and ajiaco, which are simply unforgettable. The mojitos crafted with fresh ingredients have also garnered praise as some of the best around.
Delicioso. The empanadas and aijiaco were *chef kiss*, incredible. Our mojitos were made with the freshest ingredients; they were the best I’ve ever had. As a colombiana, this food was well prepared and the service was 10/10. I highly recommend this beautiful place.

Order took over an hour to arrive after being placed. Left without eating after waiting for over an hour. The waiter was rude (I reminded him of my order once and he ignored me when I tried to get his attention the second time), and management did not try to correct or apologize for the delay as I was leaving. Go have dinner literally anywhere else.

very bad experience. I ordered a parrilla chicken and it had a very strong smell. the chicken was probably expired! the woman immediately offered to change me so she knew her meat was not fresh. she suggests that I replace it with a sobrebarriga. the dish that arrives is frankly not good. and finally on the bill she replaced the chicken with a more expensive dish (telling me nothing about the price before) and without any commercial gestures. not even apologies! in summary everything was bad even the service with very high prices! to flee !

Architectural Buildings
Casa Terracota, located on the outskirts of Villa de Leyva, is a unique and quirky attraction. It is known as the world's largest ceramics structure and was originally conceived by architect Octavio Mendoza Morales as his primary residence. The building project aims to harmoniously merge architecture, design, and other arts and crafts using earth, air, water, and fire to transform fired clay into architecture.
The artistic value behind this insane sculpture is mind blowing. Appreciated deeply seeing this monument today and although the entry is not cheap, it is well worth it. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful, as I said the entry is well worth it and pictures do not do justice When you visit you'll understand why. Highly recommended 💛

Straight out of a Tim Burton movie. Monsters turned into home features (don't miss the fireplace). Creepy crawlies fashioned from steel descending from the ceiling. Infinite bizarre details that will leave you smiling for days. It was both incredible and inspiring. I was left wondering how many times the artist wanted to quit in the process of constructing what to some seemed probably mostly bizarre and maybe even impossible. You can walk around and inside this amazing earthship for hours and you'll never catch every detail. It's haunting, mystifying, and worth every peso and second.
Jon N — Google review
You have to see this with your own eyes, this is incredible, we went through the house three times to be able to memorize the many many details. Mind boggling how the architects idea became truth following ancient traditions to prove that building a healthy house in clay in possible. Enjoy!!

Nature spot known for its striking turquoise lakes & gentle trails for walks & horseback riding.
Nice 3km hike that goes downhill to the pools and then back up. The entrance ticket is 15k Colombian pesos per person and there is ample free parking. The way to the pools is nice with small pine trees and native flowers. The water for some of the pools was dark and not clear but I was told that is due the recent rains. There are restrooms avilable next to the parking area and also down near the first pool. Overall a good hike with beautiful views and to burn off the calories from the desert you had the night before;-)

Beautiful place! It is just to walk, you can not swim or do anything fun, just pond seeing. The entrance is around $4 USD, but not worthy the price for the service offering, not guide or activities.

Why is it that Colombians insist on ruining the view of their beauty spots with these awful, kitsch signs every time? Don't expect a peaceful walk at peak-times - people bring loud speakers to blast their music to accompany their Instagram/TikTok photo shoots, and of course, shout at each other a lot. I am Colombian and we did the cuatrimotos. Me and my husband (Italian) booked the tour in town. The dessert landscape is beautiful and the cuatrimoto experience is nice. Everything else is not so great: 1.They wanted to put 7 adults in a car for 5 people. No seatbelts, driver was talking by phone when driving, he was talking how to sneak the police for for taking many people. Clearly it is illegal but they only care about money. 2. 'entrance' : there is not entrance so you pay for crossing from the car parking to the cuatrimotos parking. No seats, no waiting place, no toilets. Basically you pay for crossing a piece of the road. Tow steps forward you pay again for an insurance. Then at the top of the trail there is another guy waiting you to pay for a video. 3. the guide : a guy that goes riding a motorbike again talking by phone all the time, driving with one hand. He did not explain anything about the place. At the end they a tip for the guide a tip for nothing. 4 4. Pozos azules are not as great as they say. They are small artificial pond that locals did for irrigation.

Casa Museo Antonio Nariño is a charming museum located in the heart of town, offering a glimpse into the life of Colombian patriot Antonio Nariño. The former home of this historical figure showcases artifacts, art, and even features works by renowned Colombian painter Luis Alberto Acuna. Visitors can explore the house's interior gardens and learn about Nariño's significant role in Colombia's fight for independence during the nineteenth century.
It's a incredible museum to learn abouts history and who was really important person for colombian independence
Angela P — Google review
We learn a lot from a visit to this museum, especially about Colombian history. This museum is located in the former house of Antonio Nariño, a key figure in Colombia’s independence. The museum displays colonial artifacts and memorabilia related to Nariño, who is also known for translating Thomas Paine’s Rights of Man into Spanish. Guided tours are available, and the museum offers insight into Colombian history, though most information is in Spanish. It is set in the mansion where the artist lived his last 15 years, this museum features the most comprehensive collection of works by Luis Alberto Acuña, one of Colombia’s most influential artists. The museum includes paintings, sculptures, indigenous-themed murals, and a patio.
Ross D — Google review
It was started off with a quick history lesson and the museum is small so it'd a quick look around. It is easy to get to and in a very beautiful town. Far from bogota is the only downside but it is a nice place.
Seyi F — Google review
Ideological. Tucked into the charming & impeccably preserved cobblestone streets of Villa de Leyva, the Casa Museo Antonio Nariño is less a humble birthplace and more a shrine to one of Colombia’s founding intellectuals. The whitewashed colonial façade, with its unassuming wooden balconies, conceals rooms that reek of Enlightenment ambition, albeit at a fraction of the size one might expect for a national hero. Step inside and you’ll find period furniture so immaculately arranged it could double as a staged film set: a modest wooden desk where Nariño feverishly translated the Declaration of the Rights of Man, a replica printing press poised for the next revolution, and glass cases displaying his quill pens and letters, tangible proof that great ideas can indeed emerge from cramped quarters. The museum’s atmosphere is refreshingly austere: no grand marble busts or gilded excess, just the lean elegance of Spanish Colonial-era design, punctuated by the occasional declaration from Nariño himself in wrought-iron lettering on the walls. One can almost hear him muttering, “Libertad, pero sin el drama,” as you admire his cell-like study, a sobering reminder that intellectual captivity often precedes national liberation. In short, the Casa Museo manages the rare feat of feeling both small and monumental. It’s an intimate portrait of a man whose ideas tower over Colombian history—and a charming assertion that true greatness rarely needs more square footage.
Francisco S — Google review
Kind attendant. A small museum on one of the most important figures in Colombian history, Antonio Nariño. A good museum to learn more about how people at the time lived, and about his tumultuous life. A very inspiring story to be honest.

The Milhoja Bakery & Coffee Shop is a popular spot known for its signature milhoja dessert, which is described as super flakey and topped with arequipe (caramel). The place also offers delicious coffee and an array of scrumptious cakes, including nut and chocolate tart, dolce de leche and guava tart, and brownie. Visitors can expect long lines on weekends but the wait is well worth it.
This place has a long line on the busy weekend day for a reason! Obviously Milhojas is a signature desert here, but I also recommend to try maracuya cheesecake, as it has great balanced taste. I can’t say anything about the coffee, as I had Aromatico and it was fantastic!

The milhoja was very good and service was quick, went on Saturday night around 7pm, we only had to wait for about 2 mins to get our table.

Nice place but small. The Napoleon dessert was really nice. The frapuccino had no sugar so that was not that nice. And the key lime pie was not a good one, too sweet and not limy enough.

Very tempting selection of cakes and an ace version of milhoja. All squeaky clean and inviting. Café americano too sour for my liking. Though not unexpected in Colombia, it is a bit of a joke that in a touristy place like Villa de Leyva they won't accept card payments.

Incredible Miloja. Our Colombian friends told us this was the best dessert in Colombia! The Molioja is incredible. Light and crunchy and creamy and covered in Colombian Dolce de Leche! Restaurant
Casa Blanca Restaurante, a traditional Colombian eatery located near the main square, adopts a relaxed approach to opening hours commonly seen in town. Despite potential delays, it offers a typical breakfast consisting of eggs, tomatoes, onions, bread with cheese, orange juice, and coffee at an affordable price of COP $10,500. The restaurant also serves delicious sandwiches that can be enjoyed on hikes like the one at Iguaque.
Good food here. I got the meal of the day which costs 22,000 pesos as of October 2024. The meal included a choice of either fruit or soup, and it also came with a glass of pineapple juice to drink. A peach for dessert. The main plate included four items...salmon fillet with a little bit of melted cheese on top, French fries, rice, sauteed vegetable medley. Definitely recommended when you are in town as the food was very good and the price was good for this city.

I really enjoyed the menu del dia. The freshly made lemonade was incredible. Great soup.

We went to Casa Blanca for breakfast and the food was extraordinary. Everything is so fresh and feels like home food. I ordered “sopa de papas con costilla” and it was delicious. My wife ordered a typical breakfas with eggs, arepa, and coffee. I liked it so much that we tried to go again, but it was packed because of the holidays. Parking can be a little challenging, but again, the holidays in Villa de Leyba are like that.

Casa Blanca is a great place and where locals go for lunch. The longaniza appetizer was amazing! My Santanderans wife had the ajiaco de pollo and I had local trout - delicious! And get a strawberry lemonade with a shot of Boyaca rum to shift the mood. Highly recommended!!!

Best restaurant to get a delicious, plentiful and cheap lunch. The quality of the dishes in relation with their price is really proportional, a cheap place with high quality food. Furthermore, the service and the cleanliness of this premise is really good too. The daily menu cost 10 - 12 thousand pesos and it includes juice, soap, main dish and dessert. Special menu cost 15 - 24 thousand pesos and are higher elaborated meals that include juice but not soap or dessert.

Recently reopened in a newly restored colonial house, it offers a delightful blend of German and international cuisine along with a variety of high-quality dishes and beverages.
We arrived a bit late to the restaurant but they were still kind enough to attend us and the food and attention was delicious. I would definitely recommend it. It's a must visit for anyone passing by Villa de Leyva.

Food servings are not the same on what’s on the menu. But serving size is good. Quiet here than any nearby restaurants because of a lot of people passing by. They have a dining in the garden where a performer / singer performs, that was last Saturday night not sure if he performs every night. But I stayed inside cause it’s more quiet in there, just chilled, ate and drank few wine to fall asleep on the road while on my way back to Bogota. There are a lot of antiques inside, and wines on the display.

At the entrance the waitress told me and my girlfriend that a sausage came with some side of my preference, we ordered two sausages and 2 sides, when the receipt came, the charged the sides as a whole, it was not included as we were told, it was two separate dishes, I made the complaint and they still charged, so it was 90k for two sausages, 2 potato salads and 2 beers which is an outrageous price, absolutely disgusted about being told false information and getting charged, by the way the sausage came unprepared, no flavor at all, decorated with berry jelly which was hilarious.

Restaurante Casa San Pedro is a popular dining spot in Villa de Leyva, Colombia, known for its Italian, Mediterranean, and vegetarian cuisine. The restaurant offers a delightful and surprising gastronomic experience with its diverse menu options. One of their standout dishes is the Fetuccine served from the belly of a large aged Italian cheese on a rolling table, infusing it with rich aroma and flavor.
Beautiful setting. Clean and modern but in a historic setting. Loved the pasta alla rueda, which is fettuccine prepared in a big round Parmesan cheese.

I had the worst steak of my life at this place. Flavorless, chewy, poorly prepared.... simply inedible. That such a self-proclaimed fancy restaurant even serves such low quality meat speaks for itself. I wouldn't even feed it to my dog. Please avoid this restaurant, as neither price/value nor service are worth the steep price. Every cheap eatery in town is better value.

A massive fossilized Kronosaurus, a Cretaceous-period crocodile relative, has a dedicated museum.
A really excellent place outstanding exhibits the main one being the skeleton which remains in the same place as discovered. The Museo El Fósil (The Fossil Museum has the world’s most complete Kronosaurus fossil, a massive marine reptile from the Cretaceous period, over 110 million years old and about 7 meters long. The Kronosaurus fossil is displayed in situ, exactly where it was discovered in 1977. The museum also features a collection of smaller marine fossils, including ichthyosaurs, ammonites, and other prehistoric sea creatures. The museum is located 5–6 km west of Villa de Leyva, on the road to Santa Sofía. Accessible by bus or a one-hour walk from town. It is also wheelchair accessible.

Last time I visited this place it was cool but now is cooler and the guide was amazing. People must always tip them! I learned a lot and have an admiration for all the effort and work the entire community has done.
Maylin ( — Google review
What a fascinating museum! It was built on the actual location where this magnificent fossil was found. At around 8000 feet of elevation, imagine finding a huge sea-dwelling creature's skeletal fossil! The guided tour would have been neat, but it was in Spanish (I could use the practice). But each display included English descriptions as well. It only took us an hour to go through the whole exhibit, so plan your trip around other activities. There was souvienir shopping there as well.
Sheryl G — Google review
What a beautiful little museum. The new building is just stunningly integrating the key attraction of the museum and provides very interesting facts and fossils. There could be a tiny but more for non-fluent Spanish speakers. But it's a great place to visit.
Joshua H — Google review

This is a small museum, but the story behind the fossil preserved and displayed there is tremendously compelling. The Paleontological Research Center, also known as CIP, is a professional laboratory and museum affiliated with the Smithsonian. It houses fossils of ancient sea creatures that once thrived in the shallow sea covering much of Colombia millions of years ago. The center offers guided tours in Spanish and features engaging exhibits with English translations. It's an ideal destination for families with children, offering interactive experiences such as making your own fossil and digging for fossils.
The perfect place for the ones that are interested in Colombian prehistoric matters. Very interesting, and even better displayed. Great job by the national university along with the Village people.
Andrés G — Google review
The Centro de Investigaciones Paleontologicas is an example of a hard working nonprofit organization with the mandate of paleontological research and education. They have put together very carefully curated specimens from the Boyaca region. Researchers working in this part of Colombia and who have contributed to the knowledge of palaeontology internationally actively continue their work from this centre. We had a tour with a young guide who spoke some English (and did very well actually, better English than our Spanish). The displays and animated presentation were in Spanish but it was not difficult to get the gist and Google Translate covered the rest. A “must see” if you are in Villa de Leyva.
N.A. S — Google review
Excellent example of a private institution doing scientific research and trying to support that research through outreach (although I hope some of their finance comes through government and academic resources - science shouldn't be 100% self-funded). As a visitor experience the centre does a great job in a small space. Guided tours are conducted at regular interviews (in Spanish) but there are many interesting exhibits and posters to examine, many with English translations. In addition to the museum of fossils there is a hands-on experience for children that is both enjoyable and inspiring for them. Highly recommended.
Byron F — Google review

Very nice park. Good for children of all ages. I wished there were more things to do between dinosaur exhibitions, to make the walks more entertaining especially if visiting without a tour guide. It would also be nice if they had a sound system with dinosaur sounds to make the experience more realistic. Speaking of tour guides, Brian was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was very mindful of the needs of everyone in the group as we had children, a pregnant woman, and there was an elder in the other group with us.

Michelle S — Google review
It's really cool to go with small kids because they are super excited to see the dinos in their habitat. Going inside the big one was great. Nevertheless I think it needs a lot of maintenance. Many paths were closed, a lot of figures broken, a lot had lost color and looked very sad.

It's a beautiful place to spend time with your family, especially for kids. All the dino figures you're going to find are really good designed. You can take the tour with a guide or go by your own to know the place as you want.

My wife loves dinos and taking her there was a great suprise. In this park there are people that explain to you many things about dinasours in an one hour guided tour and there are many sourvenirs that you can buy, also you can find food, it is a great place.

If you take your kids it is a nice place, they will have fun and learn about dinosaurs. There are life-size representations and it is guided. The tour takes about 1,5 hours, not because of the size of the place, but because it is guided, nevertheless the place is not small. Make sure you use sunscreen on a sunny day as it is outdoors. I do not recommended for adults unless you want to learn about prehistoric ages.

The food and service was fenomenal! I had the churrasco with chimichurri and it was cooked perfectly to the temperature I asked, my wife has the mojarra and it was very delicious as well, service was great and we loved the place. Definitely recommend it

Waffles have to be HOT. They served us COLD. So simple. Also you pay a different amount than the price you see at first. Tips are gently asked in every civilised country all over the world , not forcibly put in the bill.

Great place with very good service and an amazing waffles...but I already think that everybody knows that already 😁 but if you are reading this, you must be looking for something sweet to eat, well, don't look no more and come here, you will not be disappointed 😉

Menu items are pricey, but it's a touristy place. Lots of choices if you are looking specifically for crepes or waffles. Nice atmosphere with back garden and second piso. Tasty maracuyá margaritas.
Angela S — Google review
Both, crepes and waffles are quite tasty. Service is extremely good, and the Oreo waffle (to share as it’s big) is a must!

The best waffles ever, the service is excellent and the place beautiful

Wow. Yummy food. I had the crepe Mexicano and my friend the Lasagna Bolognese. They rank among the best meals we've eaten in Colombia. The owner has a friendly, balanced approach to hospitality.

If you are determined to dine at this establishment, it is advisable to arrive early when they open in order to secure one of the limited tables available in this petite eatery. Although prices may be considered steep for Colombia, if you possess a penchant for Asian cuisine, your taste buds will be tantalized by the prospect of delectable fare from Korea served in this locale. Additionally, their menu also features dumplings and occasional offerings of sushi.
I love this restaurant! It offers authentic Korean food, super delicious, big meals, vegetarian options, Chinese beer for a low price! I absolutely recommend going there. The service is awesome, the Korean lady is super sweet and her husband is really nice and polite; they're always making sure you are feeling satisfied.

A must visit if you are in Villa de Leyva. This restaurant is cozy, it's a hole in the wall place with 4 tables. It's run by a couple, the lady is Korean and she's the one who does all the cooking. The food and service is incredible. The prices are reasonable too. I've been to plenty of Asian restaurants and this tiny place will definitely be in top of the list. The place can get busy quickly, better to make a reservation. I would go back to this restaurant every time I visit Villa de Leyva!

It is a great little place to visit; the food is as authentic as it gets on this side of the world and Camilo is super friendly.
Camicabra E — Google review
Surprisingly good Korean food in VDL! The portions are really big so I recommend to share or to ask to take some home with you for later! Prices are a little high for Colombia, but fairly average for VDL (22,000-24,000 COP), but it’s good value considering the amount of meat and seafood they use. I would definitely go back and try some of their other dishes.
Alex G — Google review
Excellent Korean food and vegetarian options. Loved the kimchi jiggae dish. The ginger and honey tea was also excellent.
Charlie T — Google review
Very tasty, big portion and generous amount of seafood.
Kelvin C — Google review
Really good food. The menu is small, maybe about 12 dishes but they're all delicious and authentic. Sweet and sour fried chicken and sweet and spicy fried pork are the best!
Nicholas L — Google review
Good Korean food. Each dish made to order, so takes its time, but worth it. Haven't tried anything similar in Colombia. The pasta is fantastic! Spicy bulgogi is just right. Highly recommend for the family. Only 3 tables, so you may have to wait, but worth it.

Absolutely fantastic and Quirky place. The food was excellent 👌 and the service was impeccable. I always try to come here when i visit villa de leyva.
Luis A — Google review
Situated in a mountain with nice outdoor views, El tomatino is an experience restaurant combined with great mediterranean food to try when comming to Villa de Leyva. The specialties of the house are the Roasted Baby Piglet (Lechon) and the Lamb (Cordero). Starters: Mushrooms a la Griega, delicious they come in a tomato sauce which its great. It honestly its great, made with local chonto tomatoes and onion. The spanish tortilla was not as expected. Main dishes: 1 Lechon: Nice good taste soft meat. 2 Lamb: The taste the quantity the after taste are all great! this is the best dish of the house. 3 Meatballs: Good taste and flavour, the sauce that comes with them and the pasta 🍝 are nice. To improve: Would recommend to add an extra cleaning service for the bathroom for a convenient service.

This is a lovely restaurante in Villa de Leyva, just outside town. We got there after spending the day riding around the main attractions. It's set in the country side, and it's got a little gallery of white sculptures. Food was lovely - we got the pork to share and it fell off the bone! Juices are delicious, specially the papaya and passion fruit one!
Catalina S — Google review
A definite and very well worth dining just outside of town and in the beautiful Countryside with magnificent views Service, food appearance, the unique list of all the combined flavors. Everything is so fresh beautifully presented and very delicately flavored. If I were to modify anything, it would only be two possibly cook the pasta a little bit more al dente. However my experience with most pasta in South America is that it is typical the way they cook it so you may want to ask for al dente if you like your noodles a little firmer. Jim and Diana

Restaurant
Restaurante Casa San Pedro campestre is a charming place that offers a perfect escape from city life. The cheese wheel pasta is a standout dish, and the seafood soup is delightful, although some may find the Kanikama unnecessary. Families will appreciate the kid-friendly atmosphere and small farm on-site. While the pizza may not be recommended due to subpar cheese, the overall food quality and service are excellent.
Plenty of little things to see, nice artisan gifts. Delicious food, great quality.
Gabi P — Google review
As with many Colombian restaurants including the word "campestre" this is no mere restaurant. Instead it is an afternoon'a worth of food and entertainment, fun for all the family (and pets) with cafe, pool, planetarium, fairground rides and tiendas in addition to the food service function. As for the food, it is all the standard fare, their special is a cheese pasta cooked with much fanfare and little necessity in front of you. It's fine. All of this is not really my scene, but my family, especially the kids, enjoyed it a lot and you can certainly do worse. Good clean toilets.
Byron F — Google review
Unfortunately, this restaurant has declined over time. The price-quality ratio is no longer the same, as the quality has dropped significantly. Portions are very small and the dishes are quite plain — for example, pasta without any sauce or special flavor. Customer service is very basic and nothing stands out. It used to be a place worth visiting, but nowadays the quality has gone down a lot and the prices are no longer justified.
Santiago T — Google review
The well cheese pasta is just a lie, they bring the pasta with a white sauce already and make the costumer think it is melted cheese. They do the thing in front of you with the Padua well cheese and everything but it’s just this blend white disgusting sauce 🤮 And it is not cheap
Daniel F — Google review
This place is so good looking and makes you feel really disconnected from the city life it's worth the trip. Their cheese wheel pasta is absolutely delicious. Almost to perfection. Sea food soup was good, I just wouldn't have put Kanikama in it. Coconut lemonade is one of the best drinks I've ever had. Nice family oriented atmosphere as well. Service was super friendly.
Daniel P — Google review
It's a perfect place to go and have fun and eat delicious. It's a great place to go with children because it have a lot of things so they can have fun. It also have a small farm. The pizza I don't recommend the cheese was not so good. But the the pasta is delicious
Julieta A — Google review
The "pasta a la rueda" is a very nice concept. I love that they show you how it's done and explain the process. They were very friendly too. I expected A more tasteful dish but the atmosphere is nice.
Laura V — Google review
The food was quite good, but rather expensive. Nice place to go with kids, because there is a little amusement park.
