Hirosaki in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Hirosaki, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Hirosaki is best known for Hirosaki Castle and its surrounding park, one of Japan’s most famous cherry blossom viewing spots each spring. The city preserves a strong sense of history, with samurai residences, old merchant districts, and temples clustered around the historic center. It’s also a hub of Tsugaru culture, including Tsugaru shamisen music and the colorful Hirosaki Neputa Festival in summer. Nearby apple orchards, cider, and apple-based sweets highlight the region’s status as one of Japan’s leading apple producers.
With favorites like Sobadokoro Kafukutei, Taishō Roman Tea Room, and Nakamiso Ramen, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Cafe baton and Sobadokoro Kafukutei so you can get the best taste of Hirosaki while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Hirosaki Castle, a historic and majestic structure built in 1611, is surrounded by over 2,600 cherry trees, lush gardens, and a moat. The castle is particularly famous for its stunning scenery during the cherry blossom season in spring when the mainly Yoshino cherry and other varieties come into bloom. This spectacle attracts numerous visitors who come to enjoy the breathtaking sight.
Who would have thought one castle can be moved!! Yeah, this place was slid 70 metres from it’s original place as walls covering this castle were damaged. Once walls get repaired castle will be moved back. This thought on its own is insane that they moved whole castle. If visiting aomori, can plan a day trip to Hirosaki. Note - don’t forget to collect stamps on your tickets when visiting inside castle
Purva S — Google review
Like a small Central Park of the city. There is a botanical garden around the castle. Also, Civic Center is nearby. Definitely pay a visit if you stay more than 24 hours here in this city.
Chris Y — Google review
The park surrounding the castle is absolutely beautiful, and especially in the spring or fall. The story of the castle is fascinating, not the least in modern history, as it has veen uprooted and moved in 2015 and now prepared for another move. The inside is very nice and the area around it is very spacious and pretty.
Bull D — Google review
I walked into the park and felt that little lift you get when a place is even prettier than the photos. The trees were glowing in every shade of autumn, yellow and orange and bright red with a few soft pink leaves catching the light. The castle peeked through the branches like a postcard come to life. The moat worked like a mirror and doubled the colors so well that I kept stopping just to stare. What I loved most was the mood. Cool air, the quiet crunch of leaves, couples moving slowly, and kids chasing tiny piles of red maple. I took too many photos, then put my phone away and just stood there. It felt good to be small in a big beautiful scene. Tips from my visit. Come early for calm paths and kind light. Walk the full loop around the moat, cross a few bridges, sit for ten minutes and watch the reflections ripple. Wear comfy shoes. Bring a spare battery if you are a photo person. I left with cold fingers and a very warm heart. I would come back in a heartbeat.
ChuLuxe E — Google review
To fully tour the whole area which includes the botanical garden, Fujitsu memorial garden, and the castle, you would need a good 2-3 hours with plenty of walking but it's worth it. To go to Fujita memorial garden, you would need to walk out of the Hirosaki park. Too bad we were several weeks too early for the fall foliage festival at the park. The castle is rather small but the park grounds are quite massive.
Carl W — Google review
Absolutely beautiful gardens. The autumn colours are gorgeous and you get a great mountain in-the-distance view as well. Worth the visit and cater for about 2 hours. Admission is ¥320 per adult. Visited on 1st Nov, 2025.
Dan O — Google review
We visited on the last day of the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival. Most of the sakura in the garden had already fallen, except for those along the main road and around the castle, thanks to the various cherry tree varieties. We recommend visiting during the third or fourth week of April for the best experience. However, in other parts of the city, visitors can still enjoy cherry blossoms in full bloom, especially along the road leading to Mt. Iwaki.
Patcharaporn Y — Google review
Went here in the last week of April this year, my first spring trip in Japan. When they say spring, Hirosaki Park and Castle definitely is a must..and was speechless by the beauty which welcomed us. Cherry blossoms and petals wherever you go, pruned differently to represent how apples are pruned in the area. Despite the large area, food stalls are available at designated sections of the park as well.

Park
Hirosaki Park, part of the Hirosaki Castle grounds, is renowned for its stunning cherry blossoms and vibrant autumn foliage. The park boasts around 2,600 sakura trees of 52 different varieties that bloom from late April to early May. This period also marks the famous Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival, attracting visitors from all over Japan and beyond.
As far as I know, this is the place where you can enjoy the most beautiful and most numerous cherry blossoms in Japan. With cherry blossoms filling the view, so many stalls, haunted houses, freak shows, new and old, it's a great place for everyone, adults and children alike. If you want to experience the real cherry blossom in Japan, this is a must.
Shige S — Google review
I was there in spring, this park became green scenery with some flowers left to decorate the park. Mount Iwaki can be seen from here. It would be nice if it is cherry blossom season. Park itself is free. Public toilets are available.
Thanathip M — Google review
Stunning park in the cosy old town of Hirosaki. I visited during the autumn Chrysanthemum and Maple festival, which immediately made it one of my favourite spots in Japan. The colours and atmosphere both were amazing. We took a boat ride on one of the castle's moats, with a very hearty, joyous guide. It was a stunning day.
Emiel H — Google review
A pleasant park surrounding Hirosaki Castle. The vast majority of the park is open without paying a fee. Some areas closer to the castle are onoy available after paying a fee. Beautiful in the spring and fall.

End Oct 2025. There was an event in the Hirosaki Park. It was quite chilly at night. It starts from 4 pm and we went there at about 6pm. It takes us about 2 hours to complete the place including taking pictures. The organizer has placed some fireplaces in an area for those people who felt cold. The autumn trees are really nice under the lights. Anyway, it is nice walk and for those who are not used to cold, do wear warmly. Parking was quite easy as it wasn't peak season I guessed.
SiewHong P — Google review
Small castle but big garden … it will be very beautiful during Sakura period, I think

Nice Park for relaxing or meeting friends There are lots of shady spots for a picnic and easy to park. For a minimal fee, you can enter the botanical garden, castle, etc. We will be returning in Autumn to check out the becolors. Autumnal cokors.

Nature & Parks
Fujita Memorial Garden is a traditional Japanese-style garden located near Hirosaki Park, built in 1919 by prominent local businessman Fujita Kenichi. The garden features traditional landscaping, waterfalls, and stunning views of Mt. Iwaki. It includes several small buildings such as a traditional Japanese house, a Western-style house with a tea room inside, a tea ceremony building, and an archaeological museum.
This is the best garden I’ve visited in Japan! It was so quiet, I was the only guest, I could walk around freely. The setting and scenery are so beautiful. I felt so relaxed walking through here. It’s well worth a visit.

As much as we enjoyed Hiroshima Park, Fujita memorial garden topped our expectation. It's part of the entrance fee package we purchased which also includes the castle and botanical garden. There's a lot to explore and it exudes the sense of zen.

Excellent Japanese garden next to hirosaki park that one should enjoy! It is probably overlooked compared to the park and cafe but this was a really a gem. Incorporates the mountain and surrounding really well. You can sit there and gaze around at how well they have designed the garden!

Starbucks Coffee Hirosaki Park Front Store is a Seattle-based coffeehouse chain that offers its signature roasts, light bites, and WiFi. The store is located in Hirosaki, a town with a rich history dating back over 150 years. It was once a castle town and still retains many historic structures that have been repurposed as cafes, making it an appealing destination for cafe lovers.
Integrating with local historic building, this Starbucks is an amazing European Japanese style place to visit and enjoy some coffee. - There are plenty of seats here. - There are no chargers around - The toilet is modern style and very clean.
Watcharawich J — Google review
This is a particularly nice location and a very pleasant store. Convenient to Hirosaki Park and City Hall, it attracts a variety of customers. The food and drink offerings live up to Starbucks standards. The store offers a modern Japanese presentation. Very nice seating areas and complete with a garden view. It was a perfect place for a break from the Hirosaki rainfall.

It was maybe the only place in Hirosaki that opened at 7am on weekend. The apple pie was great, it had custard in it. Store exterior and interior set up were both so nice!

Good in general but the place is overcrowded by annoying tourists who is just sitting there for hours and hours!!!

A must visit Starbucks branch in Hirosaki A beautiful and historical building with the smell of sincerely brewed coffee. A perfect match for the summer afternoon! Don’t forget to visit the castle and having a short walk in Hirosaki Park.

Cafe
Nestled within the Hirosaki Civic Hall, Cafe Baton is a delightful spot that beckons visitors with its specialty coffee, delectable desserts, and mouthwatering pasta dishes. The cafe boasts expansive windows that frame stunning views of Hirosaki Castle, particularly enchanting during cherry blossom season and autumn's vibrant foliage. A highlight of the cafe is a magnificent stained-glass piece by local artist Nui Sano, adding an artistic touch to your dining experience. The culinary offerings at Cafe Baton are truly remarkable.
The staff is amazing! I ordered a dish my mistake that contained pork which I can’t eat and they replaced it without it. And even though I insisted to pay for both they refused. It was my mistake but they still took accountability. The food was really god and the service was fast. I highly recommend!
Fatima M — Google review
The food here is amazing. The Japanese style pancake is very different from the western style. It is thicker, softer and melts in your mouth. The strawberries are fresh and the jam are wonderful but is a little sweet for me. The stew beef is very tender and full of flavors. The sauce is strong in flavour and salty which makes it perfect when eaten with the white rice that comes with the dish. Coffee is too mild and weak for me. The restaurant is extremely clean and the table and chairs are wipe clean after every departing patron.
Jacob T — Google review
Nice galette. Nice salad dressing that pairs well with the scallops. The salmon was ok. The scallops is the one giving the flavour.
Jennifer T — Google review
A very foreigner friendly shop with English menu. Food is nice and price is reasonable. Although we are allowed to sit inside for only 50 minutes due to peak lunch hour, it is understandable and not a problem for us. (Who stays in a restaurant for over one hour during a travel anyway?)

Love this cafe!! We always eat here when we went to Hirosaki. It’s on the second floor of the building/ music hall. It’s a bit hard to find it the first time. The menu has varieties, but we love the scallops galette and fruits pancakes. Atmosphere is nice. Service is fast and friendly.

Soba noodle shop
Sobadokoro Kafukutei is a great option for those who prefer dining later, as it's one of the few places open after 8:00 pm. The restaurant offers an English menu and the staff are helpful in explaining the meal. It's recommended to arrive at least 45 minutes before closing time. The tempura soba is a popular choice, featuring slightly firm noodles in a sweet soup with crispy tempura, including large shrimp.
Not busy at all for lunch mid-week October. Best soba noodles we've ever had. Very filling, great price. Tempura mix was also tasty! English menu.
Daniel K — Google review
English friendly with an English menu that is as comprehensive as the Japanese menu. They have a special soba every month and I managed to try the shigusa soba which was the special for February: essentially an amazake flavoured soup base with mustard greens and pork. Very hearty on a cold winters day. Large prawns for tempura and good range of selection would recommend going if you’re near hirosaki castle which is only a walking distance away!
Desmond — Google review
The monthly soba special with chicken, cucumber and walnut sauce was so good on a hot day. We walked here after visiting Hirosaki Castle. Some of the best tempura!
Laurie O — Google review
After visiting Hirosaki Park, we went here to get lunch. Ordered the cold soba and tempura and it was delicious. Great staff! They also spoke English and had an English menu.

The mekabu soba is probably the best soba I have ever had. Many thanks to the staff for teaching me how to stir it for the best taste.

Soba noodle shop
Hikoan is a popular soba noodle shop known for its delicious noodles. The parking area is spacious, and the restaurant itself offers ample seating options with tables, small raised platforms, and even a storehouse. The owner has gained fame for their rock music background. The soba noodles have an excellent texture and are widely regarded as the best in the city. Additionally, the tempura served here is outstanding.

(Translated by Google) The soba noodles are unique and thick. However, the texture is soft🙆🏻 You can taste the flavor of soba in abundance, so if you love soba flavor, you should definitely try it at least once! ! Since you can chew the food thoroughly, it is easy to feel full. The egg fried rice is delicious. Maybe I should try copying it at home 🐣 (Original)

(Translated by Google) It's crowded at lunchtime, but we were seated without waiting. The soba noodles are delicious, but the noodles are short, so I'm an Edokko and can't slurp them up, which is a shame. The tempura shrimp is big and plump, and delicious. The young man in charge of the dining area (a part-timer?) is very attentive. The owner has blonde hair and is a rock fan. I'm intrigued by the blue container next to the parking lot (is it for band practice?). This restaurant is famous for its handmade soba noodles made from 100% buckwheat flour. My daughter ordered a small tempura bowl, my husband ordered duck soba, and I ordered chilled soba noodles with chives and a hot spring egg. The noodles were quite thick and hearty. The soba noodles were topped with chopped chives and ginger pickled in oil, and we enjoyed them with the egg. The soba soup was also delicious. (Translated by Google) I visited this restaurant because I wanted to eat some delicious soba noodles. I thought the service was good. The soba noodles were hard and difficult to eat, and I thought the tempura would have a lot of crunchy batter, but because there was so much, the inside was full of raw flour, which was awful. Terrible! I thought it would be better for me to say something directly, but I didn't want it to seem like I was trying to bargain, so I didn't. The tempura is so bad. I wonder how long they've been doing this... It was quite disappointing. The raw batter felt gross in my mouth and I couldn't eat it. The chive rice had a bit of a strong flavor, so some people might not like it. Some people may like it. I thought it was inevitable because the service was good, but the service was poor towards the end, maybe because it was the last order... The woman paying the bill was unfriendly. It was quite expensive, so I was expecting decent food, but I'm disappointed in many ways. It's unacceptable that the tempura flour is raw. Tsugaru-han Neputa Village, situated in Hirosaki City, is a cultural center that immerses visitors in the vibrant traditions of the Hirosaki Neputa festival. The facility features the 'Hirosaki Neputa Hall,' showcasing life-sized festival floats and musical demonstrations. Guests can participate in craft-making activities such as Tsugaru shamisen performances and goldfish Neputa painting experiences.
A fantastic multifaceted experience !!! This museum is great, it's just packed with a HUGE variety of goodness. The friendly presenters here spoke many languages and did a brilliant job of explaining the history so everyone could understand, they also had an excellent variety of fabulous presentations too. The Neputa Festival floats are sooo magical to see & they let you play the drums too, I had such a blast :) The craft village out back was really immersive and had finished works for sale, and it was super cool to see the masters work on their projects. Nice garden with a lovely koi pond & you could buy a bag of fish food to feed the fish. Absolutely superb gift shop too with tons of options and tasty food stalls nearby. This is a must see if your in the area visiting Hirosaki Castle.

Aomori has a fantastic Nebuta Festival in summer. But if you are visiting outside the festival time you can still go to the museum and see what it’s all about. You can see the way the giant floats are made and learn about how it all started. There’s also a restaurant and gift shop of course. The restaurant is self ordering on the digital menu which was a bit difficult to work out. The restaurant is licensed. Food was good.

A great place to spend a few hours at! This museum shows the Hirosaki style neputa, which is different from the ones people usually associate with Aomori Nebuta. There are regular live shamisen shows, and there’s a workshop to try your hand at the traditional Aomori crafts. The museum itself is small, but it’s filled with lots of neputa lanterns and artifacts explaining the history and culture of the festival.

Such a fun and informative place! The staff were very considerate and explained everything in English about the history of the festival. The exhibits were so beautiful, but the highlight was the Taiko/flute performance and the shimasen performance. So beautiful (I even got a chance to join and play the drums ... badly, but I tried!) Highly recommend for anyone in the area to visit!

Beautiful lanterns, nice short performance by a very well Eng speaking staff. I also participated to play the drum; good experience. Nice Japanese garden at the end of the visit route. Worth the ticket price; highly recommended to visit.

This is a village where they showcase the lanterns and crafts for the festival that is a main attraction in Aomori and surrounding villages and cities. A wonderful way to keep their traditions alive and going. Overall, a great experience.

Really cool display of giant floats that are iconic to the region. We watched a few musical performances and the making of kokeshi dolls. Worth admission.

The floats were absolutely stunning. Staff was really helpful in explaining about the festival (in English). The shamisen performance was a really nice touch.

Cafe
Coffee shop
Taishō Roman Tea Room is a charming café located in a small park-like area, featuring historical food shops and a cozy atmosphere. The café offers a variety of apple pies, with the first option containing tender sweet and slightly sour apple pieces that pair perfectly with drinks. Despite limited seating, the ambiance is inviting, especially with garden views from some tables. Additionally, visitors can enjoy hot or cold apple pie options. The establishment also serves delicious milk tea and beef apple curry rice.
If you are an apple pie lover and fancy a classy dining ambience, this is the place! The tea room is located in a historical building which is gorgeous! Expect a queue in peak hours. A user friendly queuing system is available and you can hang out nearby or enjoy the garden of the building while waiting for the table. There are many types of Apple pies available. Best to share among a few people for more varieties. The service is excellent and friendly while the dining room is classy and neat. It is a good spot to take a break in Hirosaki.

Date of enjoyment: 17/4/25 Taisho tearoom is a museum and tea room all in one, we came here an hour after opening and it was packed and we had to put our name down and there were 15 people before us. After an hour we got a table in front of the terrace and the British vibes of the building comes through, waitresses are dressed in a suit and most of them speaks English. We ordered practically the curries on the menu and 4 different apple pies. I don’t think they bake the pies on site, they stock them from the bakeries and let’s just say the apple pies are amazing, there is nothing like it each one has its own unique flavour and their pastries are also flaky and crispy. The vegetarian curry, beef curry and baked curry is very much Japanese and very tasty without the spiciness. They provide Tabasco sauce if you need extra heat. All in all, this is definitely a place to visit if you want to experience different apple pies without going to the individual bakeries and short on time. Do expect a wait as this place is popular with locals as well.

We waited 1.5 hrs before we hv a table at the terrace. There were 6 tables at the terrace and 3 inside the shop. Given the number of diners and the limited seating, it’s no wonder it takes so long for the queue. They even set a limit for the eating time. However, the system allow notification via LINE or email thru QR code. So we first booked our place and went to the garden. We selected 1 beef curry and 3 different apple pies, plus an earl grey tea and ice mocha. It came up to 4092 yen. The curry was very average. Out of the 3 apple pies, the best one was the cut apple pie which was moist at the core. The other 2 whole apple pies were a bit dry. I hv eaten better apple pie before and so I would say it’s very average overall. If I did not plan to go to the garden, I would not wait for the food for 1.5 hrs! The service was very Japanese style service. Efficient, no smile, no nonsense, just transactional, eat and pay. For all its name, there’s nothing romantic or Roman about the place. But I let you be the judge of it. It does overlook a nice garden if you can get a seat at the terrace. My two cents worth. Hope it helps.

Had spaghetti and beef apple curry rice, with an apple pie dessert. Most raved about the apple pie. Honestly, not fantastic. McDonald’s had better apple pie. Tomato spaghetti can’t go wrong. Menu said it’s crispy crust but it’s soggy and disappointing. Not worth the wait. Just go for real hirosaki apple.

I almost never leave a bad review, but the reservation and ordering system here was so frustrating it deserves to be written while I’m still sitting in the restaurant. I booked a table at 1:02 p.m. and waited (and waited) until exactly 3:00 p.m. to be seated. When I finally ordered the curry, I was told it was sold out — apparently because after 3:00 p.m., the curry menu “isn’t served anymore.” So… if a staff member had seated me just one minute earlier, at 2:59 p.m., I could have had the curry? Good to know. To make matters worse, from the moment I booked until I got the email saying it was my turn, not a single staff member came out to explain what we were supposed to do. We just stood there awkwardly until someone eventually opened the door and told us the next step. The food? Fine. Not bad, but definitely not worth the endurance test it takes to get it. Even the apple pie wasn’t that great — honestly, you’d be better off buying one from the omiyage shops under the Shinkansen station. They taste better and save you the hassle of coming all the way here. The restaurant really needs to rethink its system — it wastes customers’ time, energy, and patience.

Vibes here were 12/10. Came here in the winter and you can see the bright, fresh snow outside the windowsills. The apple pies were all gut wrenchingly delicious. I wish I could have take some more with me to go.

This place is really popular for their apple pie, we took a number and waited around 30 minutes before getting a seat, it is a good thing that the view nearby is so beautiful, it is a great place to spend some time to explore. There are so many kinds of apple pie on the menu, we ordered two type to share, with a crepe as well. the pies are really fragrant with butter, apple has natural sweetness, it is so so good and we couldn't had enough. It is definitely worth a try.

The area is like a small park where there are this coffee room and some other historical decorated food shops inside. Good apple pie. The first apple pie on menu has little pinky apple piece inside which is tender sweet and little sour flavor making the whole piece goes very well with drink. Table over look the garden view is so cozy.

A very big tourist information center! It not only has a lot of information and resources about Hirosaki and Aomori in general, it also exhibits the famous huge paper lantern artworks and has a lot of space to rest before moving to the next scenic spot. Pretty nice interior with local souvenirs and food. You can rent bikes here for 500 yen, which is a great deal (apparently there are electric bikes for 1000 but they were not available when we arrived). The bikes aren't the best but we managed to get to Mt. Iwaki on them and back in one day with time to spare - though the tourist info person didn't think it could be done!

Saishōin Temple, located in the central area of Hirosaki city, is a must-visit for enthusiasts of religious architecture. This Buddhist temple, dedicated to Kongokai Dainichi Nyorai, boasts a remarkable five-story pagoda that stands as the northernmost in Japan. Built over 350 years ago to honor those who perished in a significant battle, it is often hailed as the most beautiful pagoda in Tohoku.
Shintô shrine with the particularity of having a pagoda and being on the top of one the local hill next to a Buddhist temple. Most of the other religious buildings have been relocated to the same street within the city.

Visited during peak autumn colors and it was gorgeous. The grounds were glowing in reds and golds, and the whole temple felt calm and carefully kept. I loved the quiet paths and the soft sound of leaves underfoot. It was peaceful with very few people, so I could sit and take it all in. Come early if you can for gentle light and even more silence. A beautiful, serene stop that made my day.

This restaurant is renowned for its commitment to using local ingredients, ensuring that every dish reflects the rich flavors of the region. Guests can savor exceptional rice and a variety of traditional dishes that showcase Tsugaru's unique culture.
Delicious regional cuisine at a fair price. The menu is clearly laid out. The food was on the table quickly and tasted good. Juice made from Aomori apples can also be ordered. The team was friendly. There is also a menu in English.

The ads are a bit misleading. This is a rest stop for big groups to eat and I went at prime lunch time alone and barely got a seat, had to wait. Also there was no performance. The food was very good though. But if you are alone maybe go somewhere else. The servers are busy with the groups so it takes a little bit for them to get to you. Definitely have a reservation if you are more than 2 people.

French restaurant
A reservation was made at La Porte Blanche, a French restaurant, for dinner before admiring the cherry blossoms at Hirosaki Castle. Despite arriving 15 minutes early due to a misread travel time, the restaurant kindly allowed the guests to wait inside. The chef's recommended course was pre-booked and each dish exhibited careful preparation and delectable sauces. The dining experience concluded on a high note with a delightful dessert.
Great food, good hospitality and very reasonable prices. Highly recommend this restaurant when in Hirosaki.

Fantastic food - best Western meal of this trip across Hokkaido and down to Tohoku. Excellent service by Yu as well. I went for the Chef's recommended menu ¥4800. Evrrything was very well executed and creative. I'll let the pictures do the talking. Do not be daunted by the experimental sounding cold apple cream soup - I didnt think it would work but it did, as well as the four hour stewed garlic pork in apple juice. I also loved their muscat sorbet paired with chocolate cake, and their appetiser. Three parking lots available in the adjacent building. Cash only. Fantastic english speaker and server Yu, very excellent chef. Went to heaven and back.

Wow I love this place! It serves French food that does not break the bank. Had the recommended dinner course and opted for the beef main course and the pumpkin soup. The first course was the salad that came with salmon and scallops. It was very appetising and was a good start to the meal. The second course was a toasted bread with butter and it was soft and fluffy and I relished it. The third course was the pumpkin soup which was very rich in taste and had the natural sweetness of the pumpkin brought out. Delicious! The fourth course was the fish which was fresh and grilled just right. Even my mum who does not like fish praised it for the freshness and texture of the fish. The fifth course was the beef which was tender and had a herb sauce that accentuates the taste. The final course was a dessert set coming with a small scoop of sorbet, chocolate cake, a stick of chocolate and a panna cotta. They were not too sweet and were the perfect complement to end off the meal. On the whole, I love the meal and would love to come back again.

(Translated by Google) I visited for the first time on Sunday night at 7pm during Golden Week. While I was alone in Hirosaki, where I was staying in Hirosaki for my wife's return home, I couldn't make it to Curry & Coffee Kawashima, which I had planned for dinner. As I was thinking about what to have for dinner, I had a strong desire to eat French food, so I looked it up on Google Maps and found this Porto Blanc restaurant. I called them just after 5:30pm on the day of the day and said, ``I'd like to go now, but can I make a reservation today?I'm the only guy wearing jeans and a hoodie, but is that okay?''When I said, ``It's okay if you come casually, you can also make reservations.'' As for the course, I was told that you don't have to tell me about it when making a reservation, but you can just choose it at the restaurant, so I decided to ask about it right away. Although the exterior looks a little old, once you step inside it's clean and has the feel of a local French restaurant. The other customers seemed to be enjoying French cuisine in a casual and casual manner. I ordered the "this month's course". A full course of hors d'oeuvres, soup, fish dishes, meat dishes, desserts, bread, and coffee. In conclusion, everything was delicious from beginning to end. The hors d'oeuvres include scallop and salmon rolls, chicken rolls, and potato quiche served with a salad. The hors d'oeuvres have a refreshing taste, while the balsamic vinegar in between whets the appetite for the course. I ordered a glass of white wine, thinking it would go well with this. This glass of wine also goes well with the food. The accompanying bread is freshly baked, with a fragrant exterior and a fluffy, chewy interior with a delicious wheat aroma. It also goes well with butter. The taste of cold apple soup is indescribable, but it's really delicious. It had a strange feeling of being a soup with a slight sweetness, but it was a very delicious soup that seemed to have extracted just the flavor of the roasted apples, yet had a deep flavor. For the fish dishes, I ordered the sautéed sea bass. The skin was crispy and fatty, and the sauce was exquisitely delicious. The sauce was so delicious that I ended up cleaning the plate with bread. For the main dish, I chose the herb-grilled beef, and the beef was more tender than I expected, and the sauce went perfectly with the vegetables and potato mousse that came with it. The dessert was elaborate, with sourness, sweetness, and a slight hint of alcohol for an adult taste, but I enjoyed the various textures, and the espresso that came with it refreshed my mouth without any unpleasant bitterness, and it was truly delicious until the very end. I love French food, but since I had a child, I haven't been able to go there often, but thanks to this restaurant, I was able to enjoy an authentic French dinner for the first time in a while. It was a very satisfying night as we really enjoyed the meal. It was great to feel the sincerity of the customer service. This restaurant is recommended not only for families, friends, and lovers, but also for those who want to eat French cuisine on their own!

(Translated by Google) The restaurant is conveniently located near Hirosaki Castle and the Western-style buildings. There are four menu items, and I chose this month's recommended lunch, which uses many locally produced ingredients. ⚫︎Appetizer Scallop and salmon rolls and Tsugaru chicken roll salad. The salmon was lightly curry-flavored and delicious. The Tsugaru chicken roll salad came with quiche, and the pie crust underneath was crispy, and the minced meat had a meaty yet mildly appetizer-like flavor, making for a well-rounded meal. ⚫︎Soup For today's soup, I could choose between warm pumpkin soup and cold apple cream soup, and I chose the latter. I was worried it might taste like juice, but the apples were sweet and the acidity was nicely toned down, making it an authentic soup. I was right! ⚫︎Main Course You could choose from three options: today's fish, Aomori garlic pork simmered in apple juice, or sauteed beef. I chose the garlic pork simmered in apple juice. It was packed with vegetables like okra and lotus root, and the pork was tender with a good balance of fat and lean meat. The sauce was delicious, and it was absolutely delicious when I had it with bread. ⚫︎Bread It was soft French bread with butter. It's soft and I think it's easy for older people to eat. ⚫︎Dessert It came with three options: coconut ice cream, peach tart, and cream puffs. The ice cream was light, and the cream puffs were crispy yet fluffy. I wanted a refill just for that. ⚫︎Drink You could choose from coffee, tea, or apple juice, and I chose the apple juice. It might be the best apple juice I've ever had. It was relatively low in acidity, sweet, but not overpowering, which was quite exquisite. Needless to say, apples are a specialty of Hirosaki, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that I really liked how they used apples. It's quite common for restaurants to focus on local specialties and end up with something that doesn't taste good, but this time they hit the spot. It's a really great restaurant that's easy to use for both groups or solo diners. The service was also polite, and we had a great time. The price was 2,900 yen. I was satisfied considering the contents.

(Translated by Google) I had a full-course lunch for 3,700 yen! Everything was delicious! It has a more Aomori flavor than the French food at famous restaurants in Tokyo that cost over 15,000 yen, and it's definitely delicious! The new waitress was also very cute and hardworking, which was great! The supervisor's attitude was also very good! If it was closer, I would go there often, but unfortunately I can't 😰 (Original) 3,700円のランチフルコースを頂きました!

Totoya

3.9

Izakaya restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of Hachinohe, renowned for its squid, Totoya is a seafood lover's paradise. This vibrant restaurant specializes in an array of squid dishes that are as fresh as they come, including tantalizing options like squid sashimi and grilled squid with butter. One standout dish is the "squid bandit somen," featuring live squid straight from their tank.

(Translated by Google) A normal izakaya. Somehow, I felt at home and was able to enjoy local fish. The appetizer was mentaiko mayo pasta salad and zenmai with sesame dressing. There seem to be a lot of rooms. The counter is close to the entrance and it can get cold when the door is open. There is a television set, and the president must be watching it when he has free time. The president prepares the sashimi right in front of you. He speaks in a friendly manner in the Aomori dialect. I think this is an izakaya that people who enjoy drinking while having a conversation can enjoy. The part-time clerk was also young and cute. Nakamiso Ramen

Ramen restaurant
Chinese noodle restaurant
Located in the depths of Kawasan shopping centre, Nakamiso Ramen can be found at the rear. Once inside, head left to discover this establishment where English proficiency may be lacking but Google Translate comes to the rescue for any inquiries. The staff here are accommodating, willing to cater to specific dietary requirements or preferences. The miso ramen they serve is delightful and reasonably priced. Opting for a medium portion may prove sufficient as it could easily pass as a large serving by Japanese cuisine standards.
They said that Nakamiso was one of the top 3 Miso ramen noodle shops in Hirosaki City. The soup is sweeter than that of other typical miso ramen noodles, but the saltiness of the Miso and the abundance of fried vegetables create a complex flavour, I love it. The rather tender noodles complement this well. The shop is located in a shopping complex near Hirosaki Railway Terminal. There is a paid car park building available.
Shige S — Google review
It really depends on you... I just did not like it. You might like it. Its reasonable. I expect more sweetness of Miso but I could not feel it at all. The soup is just salty and no umami. The vegetables were too well cooked. The noodle was also too well boiled and I felt it was too soft. The pork was thin and hard. If you like Sapporo Miso Noodle, I do not recommend that you visit. If you want to try Miso noodle which has been liked by locals, then just go and try.

Average miso ramen. Miso flavor is on the lighter side. Considered "soul food" of Hirosaki and has been around for a while. Edit: weird sweetness to the noodles; not a fan.
Shyam G — Google review
Pretty nice miso ramen and the price is good as well. The middle size is big enough for me, might be large size for normal Japanese food.
Kanhan L — Google review
Locally famous Miso ramen. Must. Highly recommended. It is B1F inside the classic shopping mall.
Yasu T — Google review
Tucked away at the bottom of the Kawasan shopping centre. If the directions take you to the back, walk on in and it's on the left English a not great but google translate will help with any questions. They were able to make some accommodations or food requests which was great 👍🏾
