Juniper Campground in Theodore Roosevelt National Park’s North Unit is a hidden gem for campers looking for a peaceful yet scenic retreat. Based on our experience, one of the standout benefits of this campground is the ease of access—no long wait times or difficult reservation systems to deal with, even in 2024. We were able to pull in and secure a stunning riverside campsite without a reservation, which added to the spontaneous charm of the trip.
The location offers spectacular views and is surrounded by the natural beauty of the park, with wildlife sightings being a regular occurrence. Bison, longhorn cattle, and prairie dogs roam nearby, bringing you up close to nature without ever leaving the campground. Our riverside spot was serene, with views of the Little Missouri River and a beautiful sunset to cap off each day. The campground itself offers simple but sufficient amenities, including picnic tables, fire pits, and a peaceful environment perfect for those who want to connect with nature.

Highly recommend for nature lovers and anyone looking to explore the North Unit in its full glory!
Freaky hot in May, our bad luck . Lovely quiet wide open campground. Some spots for big rigs. Buffalo walking all over this park! Lots of trails to walk on, pretty views. Scenic Rd wasn't too busy at all, so we biked to the overlook. Saw a huge bull nosed snake on the road!!
If you can get a spot, definitely worth camping here. We just stayed 1 night and got to explore the area and even had several bison walk through camp :-)

Great campground. I arrived late on a Sunday night, and was greeted by a large Bison who was not expecting such late arrivals. I apologized, and politely made my way to a campsite and set up the tent in the dark. The site was private, clean, and spacious. The bathroom structure was clean, and was centrally located to most of the sites. There was potable water, and clean drinking water (cannot confirm, I brought my own), but overall I was very satisfied. Joseph, who oversaw the campground was polite and kept the campground clean and in order. If I ever have the opportunity to again, I would come back and stay even longer. If you happen to stay at site #9, well then you'll have stayed at the same site that me and my brother in law stayed at. 5 Stars.
Beautiful campground with flush toilets and sinks. No showers yet, maybe in the near future! Roads are paved in the campground. Lots of trees for shade. The little Missouri River comes right along the west side of the campground. Definitely recommend bringing your canoe/kayaks! Lots of hiking can be done in the area. $14 a night per spot unless you you have a senior pass ($7) or some kind of access pass, not sure what that involves. Campground host was very helpful and friendly!
