The Depot is a historic train depot transformed into a casual American bar and grill. While some dishes may need improvement, the chislic is succulent but bland, and the statefish walleye has a strong cilantro taste. However, the waffle fries are exceptional. The service is outstanding with ample parking available. Despite mixed reviews on the food, dining in a former train depot adds to the experience.

Cool spot in an old train depot. Friendly server. Tried the train wreck appetizer and the Philly. Both were great. Would definitely stop in again if ever in the area. And it’s just a short drive from the corn palace!
Burger Battle 2025:
The Bourbon Burger
Honestly, I was really disappointed with this burger. It sounds really good, but delivery was not there.
There was basically no flavor/sauce. All I could taste was burger, with peppers and cheese. When we made it down to the bottom of the container, I noticed that the fries were soaking up what sauce spilled off the burger and it tasted like a soy sauce. Neither my daughter nor myself were impressed, sadly.
The burger seemed to have so much potential with shaved prime rib, sautéed peppers and cheese, but I believe it was the sauce that failed the burger.
Beautiful restaurant next to railroad tracks. A train went by slowly as we were there. Nice outdoor dining option. Decent variety of food on the menu. Ordered walleye and an appetizer of nachos. Forgot to take photos of the food. Walleye was bland, nachos were pretty good. There is a game room on the east side of the building. Lots of dining seating. There is a huge selection of beer on tap. Love the decor. Complementary popcorn.

This beautiful restaurant is actually a restored railroad depot. It is huge with beautiful wood & fun train decorations. The food was delicious & service top notch. Highly recommend.
If you're visiting Mitchell SD to see the famous corn Palace I highly recommend stopping by The Depot for lunch or dinner. The beer battered walleye did not disappoint, there were plenty of beers on tap, and we enjoyed dining on the patio, with a view of the old railroad box cars!
