I apologize for this long review. I've been eyeing this restaurant for over a month, since the food looked fresh in all the pictures. I ordered the staple pork chop with all the fixings/sides, and the waitress recommended the pork jowl, so I got that as well I wanted to get an overall assessment. Also got their special recommended tea.
Ambience: very chill, cool interior design, I love that they have AC, comfortable seats, young staff, well lit, clean.
Service: not bad, definitely not great, typical vietnamese service. Food was delivered to me, I wasn't checked up on, no small talk really or introduction to any promitions. was given a soup with my com tam, I wish that soup was delivered to me when I just got in from the rain after ordering my food.
Food: The rice was piping hot which I liked, and the pork fat crunchy things are always good. The bi seems like it was homemade, as was the cha. The bi was a bit too spongey for me, the cha had some pasty-ness to it, that I didn't enjoy much. The pork chop was pretty good, but could have benefited from having a bit more pork fat, everyone has their own preference though. I love pork jowl, and cook it at home as a guilty pleasure. I was hoping to be blown away, but was a bit disappointed. It was cooked well, but I felt like it had no seasoning, I think it could have benefited from a little salt and pepper, garlic powder, possibly a little brush of honey. The tea was not sweet, and was okay.
I like this place, but I really wanted to love this place.Cooking the protein to order is something I really like, I'm patient, I think food tastes best when it's hot, I can't stand places that will serve me a pork chop that's been sitting there for an hour+ in a cart window with the fat coagulating. Price wise, It was a little expensive cause of the jowl. If I come back, I'll skip the jowl and try the pork belly.
