I was very happy and comfortable at this hotel. It has a great position close to the beach. Get up at 6am and walk along the beach front. You will see many people exercising, running, swimming, canoeing, etc. very nice vibe. The hotel rooms are good as you would expect - the shower was like a fire hose! Very good pressure. Breakfast was buffet and served by friendly staff. When we arrived I got upgraded without asking which was a bonus (probably because I'm a member of their club thing). The swimming pool on the roof is great with exceptional views of the city and beach. Only quibble is that you can't use Netflix or Amazon Prime Video on the room's TV. I could in other hotels in Brazil.
My review: as a context- this is a good business hotel. I found the room clean but a bit dated and lacked some amenities - for example: no coffee maker or iron, tv remote had limited function (ie no cc). Bed is also very hard and takes getting used to. Prices were $100 CAD a night which is bit higher than average. It’s not located within walking distance to much (except a McD) - Unfortunately walking access seems very limited in this city in general. Room was generally quiet (I was on 11th floor) (Unable to say if you go in Carnaval time in April). Security is pretty good - need card to get on elevator. Regarding language, the front desk staff can usually speak English. Not hard to pick up some Portuguese. Service at resto and room service was very good. Restaurant was a bit more formal - not an informal place to hang and meet others - just have your meal and go (won’t meet anyone). Definitely tip the room/resto staff. Overall: not a bad place
I had an 11th floor room with views to the beach, which was amazing, however it was not well kept, as the shower faucet fell when I tried to open the water flow. Also in the shower enclosure was a razor blade that was probably left there by the previous guest, which I particularly found very disgusting.
Regarding my check in, the young lady at the front desk lack the minimum of sympathy, besides seemingly to be lost. Upon my arrival I handed her my I.D. card and credit card for incidentals, and she promptly returned my credit card. After a while she handed me the credit card machine demanding a credit card for the incidentals in such a rude way.
Checkout was like cumbersome, by the end the lady telling me that I was “free to go”, like I was leaving a jail or something. Overall it was a bad experience, actually the only bad experience I had in a Marriott property.

Consider bringing your own amenities like a coffee maker or iron as they may not be provided in all rooms
Try to book a room on higher floors for better views
If you encounter any issues during check-in or checkout, don't hesitate to communicate your concerns politely but firmly

While some guests found the rooms clean and comfortable with friendly staff, others mentioned dated equipment, lack of amenities like coffee makers or irons, and disappointing dining options. The location near the beach was praised, but issues with communication barriers at the front desk were noted. I stayed here 8 days and it’s truly one of the worst run hotels I’ve been to. The restaurant service is terrible: beyond slow. It took 45 minutes to get a bill and we were the only people in the restaurant. The food is below average and overpriced. And the facilities are old. Our aircon broke, the sink was blocked, the elevators are the slowest and everyday one was out of order, the gym ceiling leaks, the breakfast is bad (old pão de queijo from yesterday), plastic toilet seats, old computer chair in the room, no kettle, no drawers or storage for clothes other than a wardrobe, no robes, the pool is dirty. This is nowhere near 5 star. Not recommended at all. Awful.
