Opinion about Hotel de Almagro
Unfortunately, my experience at this hotel was very bad from the moment I checked in. Here are the main issues I encountered:
1. Front desk service: The person who attended me seemed uninformed about my reservation, as he asked if it had been made through an agency, something he should already know. This struck me as unprofessional.
2. Problems with a simple cup of hot water: I requested a cup of hot water to prepare coca tea to help with altitude sickness. When the front desk staff saw that I had a thermos to keep it warm, he refused my request, saying they could only offer one cup as a courtesy and that I could not fill my thermos. This was completely unnecessary and inconvenient. If they limit the courtesy to one cup, they could have told me I needed to pay for additional hot water. I wasn’t asking for anything to be given for free.
3. Room change request: I called reception to request a room change because mine had two beds, and I preferred one with a single bed. The response was negative, claiming that this was the reservation made by my agency and that they couldn’t assist me. At no point did they show any willingness to find a solution. Their attitude throughout was unhelpful and unpleasant.
4. Lack of basic supplies: The toilet paper ran out, and the housekeeper did not replace it. Additionally, the room cleaning was subpar. It seemed like they had only made the bed, as the carpet was full of dust. In a place like San Pedro de Atacama, with so much desert dust, they should at least vacuum regularly.
In general, the service was terrible, and the experience left much to be desired. I would not recommend this hotel. I hope they improve these aspects to prevent other guests from having such an unpleasant experience.
Ah yes, it's 2025, but apparently, Wi-Fi in the rooms is too much to ask for. We were told to use the internet in the lobby—only to find out we couldn’t even connect there. The reception’s brilliant solution? “Too many people are using it, so just wait until someone disconnects.” great thanks!

I stayed here for 2 nights. The rooms are old. I left my window open at night to let the breeze in. There is no AC, so the room can be hot and stuffy during the day. You can’t open the window during the day because bugs will fly in. A lot of options for breakfast, fresh and delicious. About a 3 minute walk to the Main Street, so the location is great.
It’s just not good. First hotel in San Pedro but no Wi-Fi in the room, shower scorching hot and windows don’t stay open. No WATER at the breakfast (???). Very few lunch and dinner options. The staff is not well prepared at all to receive foreigners, except for the manager. The highlights are the location near Caracoles St, the pool and the free “lunch box” they give you for tours that leave before breakfast time.
