Had the small camp ground to ourselves mid week. Had very new toilet, shelter, BBQ and non-drinking water. Beautiful quiet bushy surrounds, nice to be in the trees in the otherwise treeless landscape. Is a small area with unnumbered sites so would avoid in peak times.
Interesting spot to visit during daytime, a shady spot to take a break. As a campsite it does not make much sense, lot of soft sand, thick scrub and overgrown walking tracks. Large part of Lake Drive was closed. There was no one else there, no campers at all.
Sooo many ants, we almost didn’t get out of the car. Especially since the fenced camping area was a good walk to see the water. Better off going to the free camp out of town.

Reviews

Cawndilla Campground offers a serene and secluded camping experience amidst beautiful bushy surrounds. Reviewers appreciated the new amenities like toilets, shelter, BBQ facilities, and non-drinking water. The campground's peaceful ambiance in a tree-filled landscape was highlighted as a unique feature. However, some visitors found the sandy terrain challenging with overgrown walking tracks and mentioned issues like overcrowding during peak times and flooding of campsites. Despite mixed reviews, one visitor described an eerie nighttime encounter adding to the mystique of the location.

it was a clear and magnificently starlit sky. after i had brazenly began to slumber beneath the infinite abyss of space i was awoken by a sound not dissimilar to a tar soaked walrus attempting to pull itself up onto a half melted snow cap. when i opened my eyes i found myself unable to move and witnessed the grotesque birthing ritual of the mudmen. a small eyeless child stood at the shore surrounded by vaguely humanoid mud fleshed creatures. the boys eyes had melted and dripped into the watery dirt below. the mud creatures began to coat the boy in muddy wax, and the sound of his lungs gasping in sullied soil have not left my ears since. from the motionless statue a horrific spectre of waterlogged form arose and walked and wailed to where i lay. the speech of gods and demons rang from the creatures foul mouth. an unforgettable experience but somewhat inaccessible toilet facilities.

No numbers on the camp sites resulting in conflict between late arrivals with overcrowding due to people who don't book. Very cramped and little space between sites. Difficult when so many camp sites are flooded. A long drive out so plan ahead.
