Avoid this place like the plague. This was hands down the worst travel experience of our lives, and we’re seasoned travelers who’ve stayed in all kinds of places. Nothing could have prepared us for the level of discomfort, hostility, and filth we encountered here.
From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was tense and unpleasant. The hostel was overrun by middle-aged, Russian-speaking men who were aggressive, territorial, and made it crystal clear that we, as Western travelers, were not welcome. They imposed bizarre rules in the shared room, acted like they owned the space, and became hostile when we didn’t obey. It escalated so badly that the police had to be involved. Actual threats were made. We felt unsafe, truly unsafe, and decided to leave immediately.
Staff were completely useless, and the owner was by far the rudest and most arrogant man we’ve dealt with on the road. He barely spoke English, refused to listen, showed no concern for our safety, and clearly cared only about getting every possible cent. When we explained why we were leaving early, he refused to refund even half of what we paid for the unused night. Instead, he tossed back a tiny, insulting fraction, just to be petty. No apology, no concern, nothing. Just cold indifference.
The condition of the hostel itself is beyond disgraceful. The place reeks, an unbearable, moldy, unwashed stench that hits you the moment you step in. The underground rooms resemble a shelter in crisis: damp walls, dirty floors, broken furniture, and a suffocating atmosphere. We’ve stayed in budget hostels before, but this was borderline inhumane.
To make things worse, the location is next to the airport and railway, which means constant noise day and night, no chance of real rest even if everything else were fine (which it absolutely wasn’t). We ended up sleeping on the street our last night just to escape. That’s how bad it was. And somehow, we genuinely felt safer outside on the pavement than inside that place.
This isn’t just a bad hostel. It’s a dangerous, unsanitary, and deeply mismanaged place that shouldn’t be operating. Do yourself a favor, don’t even consider it. Camp in your car, sleep at the airport, walk all night, literally anything is better.
Having to leave 1 star feels criminal, if possible I’d leave a negative amount.
