We have lost confidence, and trust, in this establishment. This library is, in the staff's words, 'privately funded'. It is not a town or county library. They do what they want, and do not operate as you would expect a library to, in regards to how they interact with the public or their view on what a library is and should be. Conway Public Library on Greenwood Ave outside the tourist area 5 1/2 miles away is an incredible establishment with much more services, public bathrooms, educated - intelligent - honorable - lovely staff none of whom are biased, discriminatory, ignorant, uneducated to the point of detriment to the patrons.
Our review: The most unsavory rude dishonorable nose in the air type individuals at this library. Not all perhaps, but enough and the ones that set the tone and are in roles they should not be.
We have been to this library umteen times, we live in N Conway. I have a service dog. The library has a 'resident' dog, a large mountain breed who is NOT a service dog.
Dishonorably, today, a woman came up to us and said 'Oh we don't allow dogs'. If there was any doubt, the correct honorable thing to say is, 'is s/he a service dog?'. Taken aback I corrected her. Her behavior was beyond the pale and will cause us not to return to this facility after we finish our work today. There is discrimination, bigotry, hypocrisy and ignorance. Dogs aren't allowed unless it's the director's dog, service dogs and their handlers / disabled human are not honored and discriminated against. They don't know, or care what, the ADA law regarding service dogs, which specifically states a vest saying they are a service dog is not required, the dog can be off leash to perform a job or if the handler requires it as long as they are under control and more. They don't care about the law is our inference. I had no idea the reviews reflected issues. I am a big library supporter and advocate; when they function antitheticaly to what a library is, affects the community, public and society negatively and significantly. It appears this establishment needs new leadership. The ignorance of this interaction, along with some others in the own, is something that was unexpected and something to be wary and warned of for visitors and newcomers. There are some lovely people in the area as well.
