The Botanical Gardens in Victoria Park and Oxley Park were established in the mid-1990s and cover nearly 30 hectares. The gardens are maintained by a dedicated community group and offer various attractions such as a Japanese garden, water gardens, arid-climate plant beds, a New Zealand garden, a bush chapel, and open grassy spaces. Visitors can also explore botanical exhibitions and Aboriginal artifacts on display.

Worth a visit . Great if you have children. They have train ride for kids and you can have a picnic there .
Much as I enjoy visiting botanic gardens of all sorts in different countries, this one is very much a work in progress. Trails lead around the site but the representation of plants is pretty ordinary. The Bush Chapel is nice when the Hymenosporum is in full bloom but I can't really recommend this place as one for you to go out of your way to visit. Finally, for the curators here: the first letter of the species name should not be capitalised on plant labels.
We were a bit disappointed as not many flowers there needs a bit of care,a lot of weeds & no water in any of the water features, thus might be from maybe poor rain falls

Visit during spring or after periods of rain for better plant growth and blooming flowers
Consider lowering expectations regarding maintenance but appreciate unique features like themed sections
Check if there are any volunteer opportunities available to help improve the condition of the gardens
Reviews
The botanical gardens in Tamworth, though once showing promise and potential, have unfortunately fallen into disrepair according to recent visitors. Many reviewers expressed disappointment with the lack of care evident in the gardens, citing dried-up ponds, overgrown paths, unlabelled plants, and an overall neglected appearance. Despite some positive aspects like quiet spots for relaxation and themed areas such as a Japanese Garden and New Zealand plants section, the general consensus is that the gardens are not currently living up to their full potential.

Very disappointed. All ponds and streams were dry. Parts of the park were unkept with dead bushes and plants. Plant markers missing and falling over. I saw one magpie and one bee. It seems even the wildlife was disappointed. There were some recently planted flowers at the entry. I remember the days when the gardens were thriving and volunteers were enjoying the opportunity to give back to the community. It doesn't seem like this program is still running.
