This whole area is stunning. Picturesque drive around some secluded bays and an epic beach at the end at Red Banks beach. It’s not a rough road but some parts with shallow sand and rocks.
You are allowed to camp there and I wish I’d known before hand as I’d have definitely spent the night out there.
We toured Whalers Way for the first time 46 years ago, and we've just been back for a second time, and it did not disappoint. Stunning coastal scenery with plenty of wildlife along the way. There are some negatives however. The toilets, which aren't functioning and should be demolished and in several locations infrastructure such as guardrails is degraded and bordering on dangerous which also detracts from the beauty. Otherwise, we had a fantastic day, and to do it, justice allow most of a day otherwise you will need to skip over some of the highlights.
We were recommended to visit Whalers Way while on a recent stay at Port Lincoln.
The Positives.
-The Coastline is remarkably with many great spots to stop and take in the views along the Journey.
-The roads are in pretty good shape and most spots I’d imagine you could get there in a 2WD vehicle.
-For such an amazing location we only came across one other car during our journey, I’d assume that’s due to the $40 fee per car to enter. Some people have complained about this however this day and age that’s pretty reasonable for a full day family outing plus this allows you to camp on the premises for a night.
The Negatives.
-The place needs some infrastructure TLC.
Many of the guard rails to protect people from plunging over a cliff have all rusted and fallen over.
-Could do with some updated signage. It’s adequate but could be a bit more descriptive.
Overall a great day exploring however I would have liked to know a little more about the history of the property along the way.
A missed opportunity of a Gem of a property.

Whaler’s Way Sanctuary is a stunning coastal cliff property with picturesque drives, epic beaches like Red Banks beach, and beautiful sites for camping. Visitors praise the breathtaking views of the rugged coastline, cliffs, bays, beaches, and rock pools along the cliff top. The area offers plenty of walks of varying difficulty levels and is dog-friendly. While some roads can be rough and rocky, even 2WD vehicles can access it with caution according to weather conditions.

This place should be listed as a “must do” on the Eyre Peninsula. I list it in the “Top Ten List” of things you have to do in The Eyre. It’s a private rd and you need a $40 permit from the Port Lincoln Information centre to gain an access code and you’ll need a full day to totally enjoy. The main rd through this area is a graded rd and is in reasonable condition. It has some corrugations and minor sandy and rocky sections. 2wd vehicles will need to drive according to conditions. Mainly rocky rough patches will need to be taken slowly.
Unbelievable scenery so glad we visited Port Lincoln Tourist Bureau as we knew nothing about this drive. We were there for 5 hours, the road is a bit rough but our 2WD drive Ignis managed. Would highly recommend .
