The term "Chafariz de Cauda" is used because the aqueduct that supplies it resembles a huge tail at the back. "Boa Morte" refers to the chapel of the same name, belonging to the Confraria dos Homens Pretos (Black Men's Brotherhood), located on a plot of land immediately behind the fountain. Built in stone masonry with soapstone details, the fountain has, in its central body, the spouts that provided water to the population, as well as two tanks for animals, on the outside.
