I was really looking forward to visiting Handara Golf & Resort Bali — the scenery is undeniably beautiful — but unfortunately, the overall experience was very disappointing and far below expectations.
The rooms feel old, damp, and poorly maintained. Many reviews say they haven’t been renovated since the 1980s, and I agree — furniture is outdated, the bathrooms are tired, and there’s no heating or proper insulation. At night it gets cold, and the rooms have a musty smell.
The service quality also leaves a lot to be desired. Communication is slow, the restaurant takes ages to serve food, and Wi-Fi barely works. For a place that charges resort-level prices, it really doesn’t deliver a resort experience.
The golf course and gardens, while scenic, are not well-kept either — parts of the greens and fairways look neglected, and you can clearly see the lack of maintenance.
And the final straw: they wanted to charge 200,000 IDR just to fly my drone on their property — even though I was already a guest. I completely understand protecting privacy, but this fee feels unnecessary and greedy, especially when the property already benefits from free promotion from people sharing photos and videos online.
Many other travelers have written similar reviews, mentioning hidden fees, poor upkeep, and disappointing service, and I can fully confirm it’s true.
Overall, the place looks great in photos, but the reality is outdated and overpriced. Unless they renovate, improve their service, and stop charging unreasonable fees, I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
