(TL;DR: THINK TWICE BEFORE BOOKING.) This place is the absolute epitome of a fiasco of a hotel. Or should I say living environment because this does not resemble a hotel AT THE LEAST. The horrendous reviews speak for themselves, and I hope I can get mine to do the same. I am not a person with exacting expectations, nevertheless this place didn't fail to disappoint. Would rate it 0 or even negative if possible.
First of all, the provided "amenities" were not sufficient. We were only provided with 1 packet of creamer and 1 packet of sugar for each cup of tea. Not to mention they were also of low quality. The tea ended up tasting bland and unpalatable. When we called to request for more creamer, we were absolutely shocked by the audacity of this corporation to make even CREAMER, literally the most integral part of the in room tea services, chargeable??? Every hotel I've been to, even the most worn-down ones, had no hesitations to providing this most basic service, but this large corporation is so stingy that they charge for it??? I am honestly so appalled at the audacity to charge for such low quality products; ruined my only night here with tea that tasted like hot water. The shower was also of poor quality. Shampoo made my whole family's hair as dry as the Sahara only after one shower. Horrible.
Secondly, even the quality of the room was quite bad. Sure, you could argue that boasting 3 aircons in the room is more than expected from a hotel, which I do agree. However, the bunk bed was so creaky probably because of low quality wood. The ladder was removable for whatever reason, and the whole bed kept shaking over the night. It literally felt like the top part was about to collapse on me. Also, when I checked in at the front desk, the receptionist told us about the Wifi network and password. However, when I was at Tower 4 (where my room was), the network previously mentioned was nowhere to be found. So we were left without internet for a good 20+ minutes until we dialed the receptionist again and they sent someone up. Turns out in Tower 4 the wifi was through a whole different network??? When the receptionists informed us about our room details they failed to let us know about this change. As a result one of my family members that was not with us at the time was left stranded and contactless. The tower was also located very very far from the nearest carpark, and getting to the carpark was like navigating a labyrinth. It was really so frustrating for me and my family then. How hard is it to just make everything accessible and known to your clients??? Literally the bare minimum and this "best hotel in Asia" already failed at it. Shameful.
Overall, I can say the only thing good about this hotel was that the location allowed me to overview Genting Highlands quite nicely from the balcony. But even that was not possible for us due to the numerous large moths at our room balcony. To be frank, the staff were nice and tried to help us as much as possible, but it is a shame that they are merely puppets of an evil large corporation choosing to just take away many things from its customers, from tangible things like 1 extra packet of creamer to intangible things like transparency and accessibility. I strongly urge the reader of this review if you are planning to book, think twice. If you've already booked, maybe be prepared to bring basics like body wash and creamer yourself. If you are a staff of this hotel that happens to be reading this. Reflect. Is this really the corporation you want to be working for???
