7/3/24. Beautiful campground in Denali NP. We were lucky to get in since we didn't have advanced reservations. We're in a 38' class A , several larger spots to pick from. We had to leave our toad in Riley Creek overflow parking. Camp hosts were awesome! They had to cancel our bus tour due to the Riley 🔥 fire. I'm glad they got it under control quickly.
We had a wonderful 3 day stay here - really decent weather, no rain, not really windy. Plenty of bathrooms (pit toilets) and very well spaced amongst the sites. From this section of the park, you will NOT get a view of Denali - must take a bus further in (@$33 a ticket). Various sizes of sites, but most of them will accommodate starlink and solar. Camp host did his job well - walked campground throughout the day - cleaning & stocking bathrooms, checking generator hours, and just being seen. Our check in at Riley Creek Mercantile was easy and very informative - the gal who checked us in had ALL the information and answers to our questions. Something to be said for letting a concessionaire run the business portion of the park and letting the rangers do their jobs in the park. Water spouts with potable water, but not for filling your RV - only for filling jugs, etc. There are a lot if trash and recycling bins throughout the loops. It appears that the sites on the first loop, 1-27, are larger than the second loop. Dump station and potable water available at Mercantile and they encouraged us to dump and fill prior to going to campground.
Great camp sites! Deep enough into the park to get a more remote experience, clean and well spaced camp sites, and walk-up access to the Teklanika River which makes for an easy hike with plenty of animal spotting potential (we opened up the season back in May 2025 and saw a caribou herd with calves galore, a moose, a handful of porcupine, and plenty of smaller animals and birds). Highly recommend getting a spot on the far-back side of the campground since your site will have a path leading directly to the river and there’s a bit more privacy due to fewer neighbors too.

Know before you go

  • Consider visiting during the Denali Road Lottery held annually in mid-September to bypass the minimum 3-night stay requirement at Teklanika Campground
  • Bring a solar setup if you're bringing an RV as there are limited generator hours
  • Be cautious with pets as they are not allowed on hiking trails or left alone at the campsite
  • Explore nearby hills with trails offering amazing vantage points on the area

Excellent 3 day adventure here that I wish had been at least a week! So much to explore and see from here and the quiet is amazing. Grizzly was wandering around the campground although we never saw him. Campground host was very knowledgeable. Highly recommend this for a total disconnect from the day to day.

Amazing experience at Tek. Great campground host. Many nice campers and a much shorter bus ride to East Fork. You can ride the bus as much as you want with a Tek pass. And the icing on the cake--spectacular views of Mt. McKinley!
