Mount Rufus offers a challenging 7-hour, 19km circuit hike with a Grade 4 difficulty level. This long day walk in Tasmania provides breathtaking mountain views on all sides and includes a varied and beautiful circuit and side trip to Shadow Lake. The steep terrain requires good fitness, especially during windy conditions at the summit. Winter climbers should be equipped with spikes due to frozen snow at the top. Despite the challenges, reaching the summit is immensely rewarding for hikers.

One of the best long day walks in Tasmania. The circuit and side trip to Shadow Lake is so varied and beautiful. You want to be fit for this one though - it’s steep. On a windy day it can get pretty wild up the top.
Worth every step after seen the view from the summit. If you are climbing during winter make sure you got spikes because of the frozen snow in the summit.
