Do key places in Cuba accept foreign currencies?

Where are u travelling from? Went to Cuba last February 2019 and we just brought Canadian dollars and pesos. $5 bills for tips on a resort :) don't take American $ bc trade embargo

They take a huge cut when you convert usd to their cuc (the exchange rate was 100usd to 78cuc when i visited last year) Best to bring euros or canadian and exchange to cuc when you arrive into cuba. Are you staying at resorts or in airbnb? If you can pass as a cuban, speak spanish and make some local friends, you can even purchase with the local currencies. Our airbnb host took us places and we paid 1/4 of what we were supposed to pay.

When I went in 2017, we brought CAD to exchange into CUC. We exchanged at the airport and then as needed in the various larger cities where the rates were fair. We needed to purchase internet cards and use the internet at Wifi parks as we stayed at Airbnbs instead of resorts (#backpackerlife). Yes, internet was strong enough to make audio and video calls.

@Lourdes Braun I was there from mid-Dec to mid-Jan 2020. Things have changed, and Cuba is reportedly considering eliminating the CUC. You will pay a 10% surcharge on converting USD, so bring CAD or Euros. Convert your currency at CADECA exchanges, which are found centrally in every city and can be located easily using the Maps.me app (works better than Google Maps for Cuba).
