Check out long beach island in New Jersey. Nice family vibe. Lots of week long house rentals available. But like Sarah said waters won’t be warm like the Caribbean. But not terrible in July.

Beaches in the NE don't have warm water even in mid-summer. We drive south for warm water. DE beaches like Rehoboth and Bethany are good family beaches.
Or you could drive to the Finger Lakes. There you have water sports and boating. It is beautiful.

You will likely need a rental car to get to most of the NJ/NY beaches. Just something to think about since those are in short supply lately. LBI suggested above is really cute. Cape May is also adorable. You could also look at Long Island — Jones Beach.
