What do you guys prefer to do for entertainment/exploring? I've lived in Charleston and Greenville SC for multiple years and have explored a lot of the state. Myrtle Beach *can be* a bit trashy in parts and more dangerous during certain weeks of the year. By trashy I mean VERY touristy, literally dirty, and some people acting like they have no dignity (those are likely my fellow Carolinians). North Myrtle Beach is often times safer, quieter and can be more family friendly. Charleston is very historic, beaches are 30-60 min away so there's no *strip* or main drag of hotels near beaches like Myrtle Beach has. Most of the lodging is house rentals near the beach or hotels downtown (what we call on the peninsula). November would be a nice time for Charleston, the city kind of re-awakens after the tourism season is over in August/September so there's often an event you can find, walking around the downtown area is much more tolerable. Other places in SC, Columbia is NOT worth stopping at, Aiken is sleepy but unique. It's an old (and current) equestrian town with many homes like the Charleston style but less to do for visitors. Greenville, hi that's my home!, is nice (I'm biased but will try to keep it back) but you'd 100% be really car dependent here and some roads/areas can get really congested with traffic. The downtown area is where most people visit for Falls Park (waterfall type park with a suspension bridge over it), shopping, eating, we have a lot of seg-way tours for some reason and a good bit of outdoor bar/restaurant combos.
