(Translated by Google) quite a long granite embankment, which we visited after rafting on the Shuya. A magnificent view of Lake Onega, the metal monument to the Fishermen was memorable. From here we left for the train station, returning to Moscow. Even after 18 years - vivid memories. (Translated by Google) It doesn’t look like a park, it’s most likely a small square. I walk through it every morning, because I live nearby. I’m outraged by the trash cans overflowing with garbage, the “Bird of Happiness” littered with pigeons. I think that in a capital city, recreational facilities should be kept in better conditions in a decent manner.

Very informative displays, with bilingual descriptions. I was smitten with the culture of Karelia when I arrived in Petrozavodsk, but this museum helped me learn more about the rich and long-standing culture.
It is a great museum where you can find everything related to Karelian culture. We spent around two and a half hours there and learned a lot about Karelian culture, from their lifestyle to traditions. Very informative place. If you visit Petrozavodsk, you should visit there. Highly recommended!
It has a lot of rooms with expositions
Very nice little museum. Had a good tour. Learned lots of things about Karelia.
Charming small museum
History of karelia
(Translated by Google) An ordinary museum. There are many exhibits and they are interesting, but the presentation of information needs to be worked on! In each room, you have to read the canvases of text written in small print (sometimes the signs with the font are on the wall behind the glass, try to read it). The inscriptions on the glass are half-erased, again - they are difficult to read, especially if the font is black against the background of a black exhibit. (attached a photo) Some exhibits have no numbers at all, figure out what is what as you want 🤷🏻‍♀️There is nothing interactive either.

Open-air museum on an island featuring a church & historical wooden buildings from around Karelia.

This open air museum is really great and well organized. You arrive here by ship and then you stay there for 4 hours before return. The 1st 2 hours you have a guide, also in english, the other 2 hours you are free to do whatever you want. There is also a restaurant there and souvenir shops. The main church is still closed for reconstruction.
I was searching for a spot in the St. petersburg area online and decided to look for Kizhi, just out of curiosity --- I visited this place back in 1973... Yes, that's 47 years ago!! I was in high school at the time, and taking part in a Russian language study summer trip! This was one of several excursions while I was staying in Leningrad (St. Petersburg!) Back in the cold war era..!!! Anyway, seeing all the online photos now sure brought back some memories! I remember seeing those wooden churches with such amazing detail, and wondering how and why they were built. Going by the recent photos, it looks like this place has been well maintained, which is good. If you find yourself in the area for any reason, this is a worthwhile side trip.
Wooden architecture can be found throughout Russia, but Kizhi Island boasts some of the nation's most famous, and most intricate, examples. These structures on Kizhi Island date from various centuries (the oldest from the 14th century), Blessed with one of the most picturesque ensembles of Russian wooden churches, the Lake Onega island Kizhi provides the most scenic destination on Russia’s greatest waterway, the Volga.
Famous Kizhi - the legend says these churches and other buildings were built without any nail. Truth it or not, doesn't matter as Kizhi quite popular among tourists either Russian or International (On the day we were visiting Kizhi, huge ship had arrived with dozens of tourists mostly Americans and German). Kizhi is a magic place, quiet and like no other. The way people used to live here was recreated - students and volunteers dressed in relevant clothes will tell you some stories about how Kizhi was established, what people ate and how they survived long and cold winters. Beatiful choir consisting of 4 or 5 singers will bring you some sense of this place
I don't know if I believe everything I am told about this place (Built by one man who threw his axe in the lake upon completion) but it is something special to see. Love outdoor museums and this one is great.
An amazing sight. A church built of wood in such a remote island. It is a huge project built by a dedicated man. It is a must see de stination
Wonderful UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site. Historical Karelia regional structures moved here to this outdoor museum.

Well! What a strange yet wonderful place. I arrived via the back entrance after following google maps - I wandered through some mariners back yards then found the museum amongst the wooden buildings and boats. There I was greeted by a cheerful man who welcomed me into a group of Russian visitors. Despite my lack of Russian, he asked where I was from and proceeded to tell me of the places he must've sailed to in England, Bristol and Poole among others. I was then taken to a video room where I was met by another joyful character who did his best to translate his speech to English and sometimes used the other guests as assistants if he didn't know the words in English. After a tough year of living and travelling around Russia as I couldn't go home (people thought I was a covid threat) here, however, I was treat as an esteemed guest. I was overjoyed at the effort they all made to include me in the different exhibitions and to impart the knowledge of the sea voyages this group of sailors had experienced. I had a lovely time. I encourage any visitor to Petrazavodsk to go find out about the adventures of this devoted group of people.
Interesting excursion about Historical Maritime Industry in Russia and nearby states
(Translated by Google) We thoroughly enjoyed the excursion conducted by your wonderful “first mate and navigator” Alina. Great, interesting, curious! I really liked the exhibits, but thanks to Alina, we literally visited those places that she talked about so fascinatingly, it was great that we could feel and touch some of the exhibits, we left the museum in complete delight! Alina is very smart, I wish there were more such interesting, fascinating, intriguing guides! Just 5+!!! And to your museum of prosperity and growth! We are looking forward to meeting you again!! Thank you!!!
(Translated by Google) An interesting museum run by enthusiasts. You can see, touch, and take photos of everything in the museum. It's educational not only for children but also for adults. Thanks to our tour guide, Sergei Petrovich, for the engaging conversation. The tour included a display of exhibits, as well as photographs and videos. I hope such a museum survives! And to maintain it, we need the support of the regional administration and the government.
(Translated by Google) The museum clearly lacks funding. There is slight devastation. In general, thanks to the people who work there, the museum is interesting, the excursion was extremely educational. It was just the two of us and everything went over in 2 hours, we don’t regret it. They told the story in such detail, with photographs, exhibits, etc. All liked it. In the museum you can touch everything and go everywhere. Prepare 100 rubles for the firecracker. But it's worth it.
(Translated by Google) Excellent maritime museum. Tour guide Eric gave an excellent tour of the ships and the museum itself. Ships, both active and not afloat. Very interesting. Especially with a guide. Lots of interactive things. You will not regret.
(Translated by Google) Very interesting. You can touch everything, try it on, photos are welcome. Ring the bell. Entrance 200 rubles per person, 200 rubles for half an hour boat ride, +300 to the water ticket per person - personal excursion. Children under 6 years old are free.
(Translated by Google) It was very difficult to find it, because we were traveling with a group of children on a city bus and walked from the stop. In fact, we got off at a stop further, because neither the driver nor the passengers on the bus could clearly tell us where to get off. The entrance to the club leaves much to be desired, as does the appearance of the territory, but the stories of the guides and the ships themselves, both outside and inside, make an indelible impression!
