Incredible museum, focused on the ceramic arts. I'm honestly so impressed with this space, it's difficult to express. A comprehensive overview of pottery and ceramics is provided, including discussion and display of technique, craft, evolution of the art throughout recorded history, and exploration of modern styles and methods. I consider myself reasonably well-informed, and I learned so much in an afternoon in this space.
The museum is also VAST; it's much bigger than it appears from the outside. If you're someone who likes to read the educational displays and actually care about historic information, you'll definitely need more than one day to tour all of the exhibits. I spent about four hours, here - and saw less than a third of the building.
During the work week, the museum was nearly empty (so easy to maximize the experience, and explore as much as possible). If you're limited on time, I *highly* recommend checking out the intro to ceramics space (downstairs, next to the entrance) for an overview, and then skipping up to the modern art exhibit. The MIC's Premio Faenza prize competition has been running for more than 60 years, and their modern ceramics showcase includes an incredible selection of contributing artists from past years. If you're lucky enough to visit during the summer season, you can also witness the current year's entries and winners (the 2023 show runs from July 1st to October 29th). Definitely worth a visit!
