Beautiful! We took the Ho-Ho up and the stairs down. The view from above of both the newer part of town and the old part is very good. There’s a small cafe where you can buy fresh juice or bottled drinks/water and snacks near the stairs.
Beautiful views from the top, the panoramas are really worth it. Unfortunately, the site itself is poorly maintained, not really visitable inside, and the €20 entrance fee is absolutely too much. I’m giving it 3 stars mainly because of the price – €5–10 would be more appropriate considering the limited access and its recent history.
A fantastic place to visit in Nafplio! The view from the top is absolutely stunning, especially when the water around the town turns that beautiful blue-green turquoise shade. There are several viewpoints around the fortress, so take your time to walk around and enjoy the different perspectives. There’s also a small café inside for a quick break. You can either climb up the famous stairs or drive up — both options are worth it. The only downside is that the ticket price feels a bit high, but overall, it’s definitely worth the visit for the view alone!
Absolutely gorgeous views and a very impressive fortress. The architecture and preservation is amazing. We had so much fun exploring and there seemed to be a new view around every corner. I was surprised they even had a little snack cafe’ in the main area and it appeared they were working on some sort of museum as well. Oh…bring good shoes with traction. You’ll thank me later.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5-Star Review for Palamidi Fortress (Nafplio) Palamidi Fortress is absolutely stunning and one of the most impressive historic sites I’ve visited in Greece. The view from the top is breathtaking — you can see the entire town of Nafplio, the sea, and the surrounding mountains. It’s worth every single step of the climb (or drive up if you prefer). The fortress itself is massive, beautifully preserved, and full of history. You can easily spend a couple of hours exploring the different bastions, tunnels, and stone pathways. Every corner has a different perspective and photo opportunity. It’s peaceful, scenic, and gives you a real sense of Greek history and architecture. Whether you hike up the 999 steps or drive to the entrance.
Awesome view of the city of Nafplio from the firetress on top of the hill. The foretress itself is well built and has some interesting stories behind it.
The fortress is an impressive place with amazing views over Nafplio and the sea. The history and atmosphere are truly worth experiencing. However, the entrance fee (20€ per person) feels a bit high, especially since there’s no museum or additional exhibition inside. It takes no time at all to climb the stairs, but walking down the road will take you about an hour.
The Palamidi Fortress, a grand and impressive Venetian fortress, is nestled on the crest of a high hill overlooking Nafplio. A must-see sight, it feels like a never-ending structure that sprawls across most of the hill. It’s a top destination to visit if you’re nearby, as exploring it and learning about its rich history can take two hours or more. You can access it by climbing 913 steps from the town of Nafplio or by car/taxi, which brings you directly to the fortress entrance, where parking is available. We recommend arriving early, as the parking fills up quickly. The fortress also offers free public restrooms, a bar, and a museum shop.

Great small beach, very very close to the center and beautiful water to swim in. Would recommend to go early and swim there so you secure a good spot. Also, there is many cute cats so bring some food with you. 😊
Beautiful pebble beach, warm water. We were staying in town so just walked there. We were there mid September and there was no bar open. There are a few change rooms. Not great for kids
Beautiful beach with crystal-clear waters and good facilities Paralia Arvanitias is one of the best spots in Nafplio for a relaxing swim, sunbathing, or simply enjoying the view. The beach itself is a mix of small pebbles and sand, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and pine trees. The water here is incredibly clean, clear, and calm—perfect for swimming or just floating and soaking in the beauty of the surroundings. You can also snorkel near the rocks where the underwater visibility is excellent. One of the best things about this beach is the beachfront restaurant, which serves really good food, coffee, drinks, and snacks. If you order something from the restaurant, you get free access to sunbeds and umbrellas, which makes a big difference especially on hot days. The service is friendly and efficient, and the view from the seating area is amazing—right on the water with a panoramic view of the sea. There are also a cold water showers next to the changing cabins, and restrooms nearby, and everything is well maintained except the restrooms. It’s a small beach, so it can get crowded in peak season, but if you come earlier in the morning, it’s a peaceful and beautiful place to spend a few hours. Whether you’re a tourist visiting Nafplio or a local looking for a convenient and picturesque spot to relax, Arvanitias Beach is definitely worth a visit. The combination of great swimming, good food, free sunbeds with service, and that unbeatable view makes this beach a favorite.
Oh my god, what a divine place! We visited after seeing the Venetian fortress, and what immediately caught our attention was the stunning, clear turquoise water. There’s a spacious parking area located just above the beach, which is super convenient. From there, a set of stairs leads you down to the beach and several beach cafés. You can rent an umbrella at the cafés with a minimum consumption of €15. The view is absolutely breathtaking—the surrounding mountains, mirror-like water, and rocky backdrop create a scene straight out of a postcard. If you don’t want to rent an umbrella, you can look for shade near the wall or bring your own. However, since the beach is quite rocky, you’ll need an umbrella pole that can handle impact. The water is crystal clear, very warm, and perfect for swimming. Small children should stay in the shallow area right in front of the beach for safety. If you have snorkeling gear, definitely bring it! Near the rocks, it feels like swimming in an aquarium—there are so many different species of fish, and they’re not afraid to come close. It’s surreal. You can also jump into the water from some of the rocks. Facilities include toilets, cold water showers, and changing cabins. This is definitely one of our favorite places in Nafplio and the entire Peloponnese!
A small but beautiful pebbly beach, framed by the picturesque cliffs and backdrop of the city. Despite having a beach bar nearby, it felt relatively quiet and peaceful. Facilities like showers and changing rooms are available, but the true highlight is the crystal-clear, stunning water—easily one of the best moments of my visit to Nafplio. Tip: Bring your own snacks, drinks, towels, and swimming shoes for extra comfort.
A small beach in proximity to Nauplio town. Not bad for its size.
Nice beach surrounded by cliffs and castles. Drinks are served from a bar on site.
nice view, near by parking beach is ok, there are better ones in the area

An attractive beach with clear waters. A must place to visit during your Nafplio visit. A great beach for kids due to the shallow water and sand. Cafes and small restaurants nearby will provide the basics. Although it is illegal lots of people set up camping or park caravans there to spend the night. Some great events take place there during the summer.
Great place for families. Lots of sand, swimming for every age, clean beach and sea.
Great beach, but the Bartender at one of the main coffee and lunch spots is marginally not pleasant. Despite having good products and good waiters, the Barista is as I said , not ideal. Beach is great, sea is Greek and the sun is as always glorious.
Overall a good beach to spend time and enjoy the sea. Sandy beach with clear water, 5 minutes by car from the city. It is big and there are some spots with shade. The only thing that I didn't like is that you can find a lot of cigarette butts in the sand and some trash here or there.
Great beach with a lot of free space, only a few sunbeds disrupt the beauty of this place! ( :
This was my favorite beach 5 years ago. It’s not as clean as it used to be. And chairs are now more high price with less accommodation
Beautiful beach with the option to shower after a swim. There are some bars and restaurants nearby. Parking is easy, and a few trees provide shade if you don’t have a sun umbrella. The water is clear and the beach is sandy. But be aware—there are still some rocks with sea urchins in the shallow water! It can be quite windy, but the view makes up for it!
Beautiful beach with sand, very clear and not deep water. Don't miss Karathona beach.

Simply impressive. Do you have the opportunity to go? Then don't skip it. The history and energy of this place are truly special, the silence and serenity are magical. We went on a tour through Booking, and this is the most honest review: Without a tour, it’s very difficult to reach this place from Athens. So, for the transportation and transfers, it's 100% worth it. The guide is very limited since it’s through a device (What we did was add GPT to WhatsApp to ask it in real time the things we wanted to know)🤣 Enjoy!
Maybe is the smallest Archaeological museum I have ever visit. Just four rooms or two floors.. 10 euros entrance and no more of one hour you will need to see the things that have inside. At the old city you can find this museum..and as always Greece is full of ancient stuff.
A very nice archaeological museum, not too big so it’s easy to explore without feeling rushed. The museum is well organized, with two floors dedicated to the ancient cultures of the region. You can use an audio guide, and there are several sort of benches between the displays where you can sit, rest and listen to the commentary. The staff are friendly and helpful. Just be aware that the stairs to both the first and second floors are quite steep. Overall, a pleasant and interesting visit!
The Archaeological Museum of Nafplio is a museum in the town of Nafplio of the Argolis region in Greece. It has exhibits of the Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Helladic, Mycenaean, Classical, Hellenistic and Roman periods from all over southern Argolis. The museum is situated in the central square of Nafplion. It is housed in two floors of the old Venetian barracks. The oldest exhibits in the museums are Paleolithic clay hearths from the Kleisoura Gorge near Prosymna (32,000-21,000 BCE)
This a tiny, absolutely unnecessary, however, very charming museum. It is two storeys of findings from Mykene epoch, which is a lot earlier than classical Greek. No hands on experience for the kids. However the exhibition itself is versatile enough for everyone to find something interesting. Most notable items have a good explanation in English.
This museum has an impressive collection of artifacts from nearby archaeological sites. The items are exhibited with helpful explanations. There is also a silent video.
A very interesting museum ,it houses exhibits from Prehistotic period to Roman times !Lots of exhibits from the Myceanean civilization ,it's worth visiting!
A lovely collection of interesting and priceless pieces of art and tools that come from an era long gone. Great atmosphere and not crowded even during peak vacation days in Greece. You might find the entry rules to be slightly discriminatory: if you’re an EU citizen under 25 years of age it’s free, if you’re a non-EU citizen under 25 it’s 3€. Albeit, both EU and non-EU over 25 are required to pay the full price of 6€. I personally don’t see the point in all of that but in any case, the entry is not overpriced in my opinion.

Fantastic Acropolis of Tiryn’s.
Of all the archaeological sites we visited, this one seemed to lack information or context. In addition, there was renovations happening when we were there, so some of the site wasn’t fully accessible. We weren’t quite sure what we were seeing or what we should be looking for. A little more context or information may have made this a more interesting visit.
Located south of the city of Mycenae, this ancient settlement resembles a fortress and is thought to have been the main port of the Mycenaeans. Built with massive stones atop a natural rocky outcrop, the city’s walls are quite impressive. In Iliad, Homer states that these walls were constructed by the Cyclopes. In reference to this, the masonry work of the Mycenaeans is today known as "Cyclopean Masonry." Tiryns is also where the Oracle of Delphi, Pythia, sent Heracles to atone for killing his own wife and children. Here, Heracles came under the command of King Eurystheus of Mycenae and carried out the tasks given to him. During the famous Twelve Labors of Heracles, he resided in this area, with the first six tasks taking place inside the Peloponnese Peninsula. Although the archaeological site is generally poorly maintained, confusing, with insufficient informational signs, and no maps provided at the entrance, it was still a visit where we were captivated by the impressive stone walls of the Mycenaeans.
Very nice but there are no signs. You will need to read something on Wikipedia
Amazing Mycenean fortress well kept and maintened.
Fascinating ruins but definitely not for mobility impaired visitors. Very quiet, few people, good signage in Greek and English and interesting to see this ancient place. Be sure to visit the archeology museum in Nafplio to see extensive collections from the excavation. Get the combo ticket for 20 euro.
Visited in March 2024 We visited Tiryns after we left Mycenae…it being a very close drive. There were only 4 other people at the site when we were there. There is plenty of room to park. The construction of the walls with huge rocks is true and truly they are huge. It was spring and there was a lot of flowers blooming around and on the site and it was a beautiful site to see. Lots of mysterious mythology and history about this site which is worth reading about to get a better understanding before you arrive. Tiryns is a Mycenaean archaeological site in Argolis in the Peloponnese, and the location from which the mythical hero Heracles was said to have performed his Twelve Labours. Tiryns was a hill fort with occupation ranging back seven thousand years, from before the beginning of the Bronze Age. It reached its height of importance between 1400 and 1200 BC, when it became one of the most important centers of the Mycenaean world, and in particular in Argolis. Its most notable features were its palace, its Cyclopean tunnels and especially its walls, which gave the city its Homeric epithet of "mighty walled Tiryns". Tiryns became associated with the myths surrounding Heracles, as the city was the residence of the hero during his labors, and some sources cite it as his birthplace.
Terrible value. 10 euro entry. The 1 sign that has any information about the site is located next to the ticket booth. The only other signs inform about the restoration. Much of the site remains blocked off, not that it makes a difference, as there is no info on what you are looking at. Would not recommend.

Venetian fortress located on an island close to Nafplio. The boat ride from the waterfront takes about 10 minutes and costs €5 for a round trip plus castle entrance of €5. Boats runs every 30 minutes and you stay as long as you like. Great views from the castle overlooking the city are the main attraction. There are also many stone staircases and overlooks. The castle also contains a small exhibition area describing the history of the castle and a gift shop. The island also has a cute cat living in a house under a tree. Great castle to spend time on but other then views there isn’t that much to see here.
Very nicely restored but almost too pristine. 5 euro for boat, 7 euro for entrance fees. Quite pretty but not as fascinating as other Greek historical site.
A beautiful venetian castle in the middle of Nafplio’s Harbour. To visit it you can go to Nafplio port. The boat will navigate around meanwhile the guide explains you it’s history.
Full castle tour from a delightful feline (whose Greek name I cannot recall). He showed us around and posed for photos. 10/10 would recommend.
Go early before it gets hot! RT boat ride for 5 euros per person then have admission to the castle 7 euros per adult
It can be visit only by boat, 4.50 euro the trip of 20 minutes. The castle can not be visited. The trip boat offeres a great view of Bourtzi Castle and of the Port of Nafplio as well.
The water castle of Bourtzi is a Venetian castle located in the middle of the harbour of Nafplio. The small island of Bourtzi in Nafplion is popular for its strong, impressive fortress. Still known by its Turkish name Bourtzi, meaning the Tower, it attracts many visitors all year round. Antonio Gambello, an architect from Bergamo, built the castle in 1471 on this tiny islet in front of the port of Nafplion, although the construction was completed by the engineer Brancaleone. The design was made specifically to fit the narrow shape of the islet. The fort's design is adjusted to the elongated shape of the islet. In its centre, there is a hexagonal three story tower where the communication between floors took place via mobile ladders for security reasons. The water supply was covered by a spacious circular reservoir situated at the basement of the tower. To the north-east a small harbour was designed to provide access to the fort; today the tourists' boats anchor here. The fort was modified and renovated but never lost its special characteristics. Bourtzi is unique, the only sea fort that exists, and the most recognizable landscape in Greece.
You can take a boat trip around it but can't actually visit. It makes a great subject for a photo though.
