Bergerac City

Bergerac is a town in southwest France. It’s known for its old town’s half-timbered buildings and the castles that dot the surrounding countryside. In the town, the Maison des Vins showcases the region’s wine. It’s housed in the Cloître des Récollets, a 17th-century cloister. Nearby, the Musée de Tabac documents the history of tobacco. Traditional barges cruise the Dordogne River, which runs through the city.

My partner and I did the tour with included 3-wine tasting and had a lovely time. The exhibition is incredibly interesting and informative, and the staff providing the tastings are absolutely lovely and incredibly knowledgeable, not to mention the delicious wine on offer, grown on site and in the area. At the time of writing, there’s a tasting done in English each day at 3:30, and it’s well worth the €18 package. We went in April, so we were the only people there, which made for a very personal experience. Super, would definitely go again.
Fantastic place to visit. Not only is there great wine, but there is a restaurant that has great food too!! The chateau is great to look round, with lots of history of the building. And a very interesting section when you first go in, that explains the whole wine making process. All the signage is in both French and English, so still able to get the full experience without being fluent in French. Amazing views from the chateau grounds.
Lovely Chateau with an interesting historical and arts exhibitions. Fabulous views of the countryside from its elevated position. Nice little cafe / restaurant. It has a very good wine museum and tastings.
A beautiful Château set among vines on a hill to the south of Bergerac. It has an interesting history of being saved by 50 vintners of the area in the 1960s. A little further to the south is the pretty village of Monbazillac. A must visit if you are in the area.
This is a total experience not to be missed. So much to learn. A combination of history and wine including the specifics of Monbazillac wine. I highly recommend doing the full three wine tasting experience as you get so much more learning and understanding from it. The tasting is delicious too. 🤤
We recently visited Monbazillac Château for a tour and wine tasting (€43). The lady at the reception was very kind and welcoming, and the tour with the tasting itself was enjoyable. However, our experience at the restaurant beforehand left us quite disappointed. Before the tasting started, we wanted to sit down with our children and simply have a drink at the restaurant. When I asked if we could sit, a man working there responded very oddly, with a confusing “yes, no, yes”, and then asked in broken English if I had a booking. I explained that I had just booked the tour and tasting, and only wanted to order some drinks before it began. He refused and told me I had to go back to the shop at the entrance to book this, which made no sense. After walking back, the lady in the shop was very friendly but also surprised by the situation. She apologized repeatedly, though she could not help further and sent me back to the reception. The receptionist was also shocked by the story, confirming that of course we should have been able to sit down and order drinks. She immediately called the restaurant, and only then were we finally allowed to sit and order. Back at the restaurant, I expressed my dissatisfaction to the man, pointing out that he had sent me back and forth for nothing. Instead of acknowledging this, he just laughed it off strangely and said very little, leaving a female staff member (who was friendly) to take our order. The whole incident gave me the impression that he either had a very bad day or simply does not understand what hospitality means. It was not busy at all, yet he acted as if he had no control over the situation. My advice to the management: please have a serious conversation with this staff member and consider proper hospitality training. Otherwise, more guests will have the same negative experience. Overall, the wine tasting was fun, but the château itself was nothing particularly special, and this incident left a bitter aftertaste to what should have been a smooth and welcoming visit.
Had lunch at the cafe that is part of the Chateau - Pavillon Brizay - it was really excellent. We had both duck dishes and they were cooked to perfection and served with great sauces. The wine museum is well put together and views from Chateau fantastic. The Chateau itself is limited but does have an extensive history of the area. But honestly time your tour to include lunch !!
Beautiful chateau and excellent wine producing exhibition. The tasting room and shop are perfect way to finish the tour. Wines are high quality had to buy some obviously 🙄

Statue Cyrano de Bergerac Statue de Cyrano de Bergerac October 2025: The entire area is riddled with stores based on the 'Cyrano de Bergerac' theme. This statue is a big tourist magnet.
The Old Town is charming with unique architecture and little shops and restaurants. Quite touristy though. A decent look around can be done within an hour.
Nice statue. Shame it is on a high plinth, but given someone has damaged the other Cyrano statue in town by breaking the nose off, I'm not surprised. Surprisingly quiet until a large tour group descended. You can move around onto higher ground to get a better shot than looking up the statue's large nose.
Bergerac is a small beautiful town ... 2️⃣7️⃣ thousand people only ... Named after the eponymous hero of the play by Edmond Rostand and a real person from the 17th century - Cyrano de Bergerac 🏰 Very old, with interesting historical landmarks ... 🌿 Cozy and quiet, but not in the active season in summer, when the center is filled with colorful 🍽️ With plenty of restaurants with exceptional cuisine 😋 🍷 Of course with great Bordeaux style wine in every restaurant 🌳 With many dignified sycamore trees 💙 Located on the banks of its eternal, constantly moving satellite - the Dordogne River 💯 Recommended and if possible with accommodation in a guest house ℹ️ You can safely not book breakfast, because in the boulangeries in the center there are very tasty, fresh and warm croissants every morning, and all sorts of other things. 👁️🖐️👂👃👅
Worth visiting if you are in Cognac.
Interesting sculpture with a touch of humour. Attractive centre ville to wander around with historic buildings and churches, excellent market and free parking options nearby.
Great town to visit shop stop drink coffee and wine Great food too Places to visit Great time had

Beautiful historical church at the centre of town! It was lovely to spend some time here for prayers and also observing the interior 🙏
Notre-Dame de Bergerac is a surprisingly striking church right in the heart of town. From the outside it looks quite simple, but once you step in, the space opens up beautifully — high ceilings, lovely stained glass, and a peaceful, calming atmosphere. It’s not packed with tourists, so it’s actually a nice quiet stop to catch your breath and take in the surroundings. Worth popping in if you’re nearby!
A remarkable large Catholic church of standard layout in the centre of the town. The town centre is quite pretty with the overhead strings of large plastic butterflies the length of the main street and a few flower gardens
Beautiful, peaceful, and magnificent. I felt blessed to be able to have the opportunity to pray and have a moment of meditation.
A beautiful tall building that had been well renovated throughout and large in size. Well worth a visit as it's free entry.
Very pretty church inside and out
Notre-Dame de Bergerac November 2025: Spectacular 😍 (But finding free parking in this area is a misery 😞!)
Beautiful city, plenty of historic attractions, especially Historic Bergerac. Well worth a visit

Beautiful building. Reasonably priced tickets if you like wine. Lots of information about wine making which is helpfully translated into English. The kids enjoy designing and printing their own bottle labels. Restaurant was too busy (despite there being empty seats). Wine tasting was enjoyable. There was space for the kids to play in the corner. Shaded car park. You can visit the shop without paying entry to the chateau.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Very helpful in helping us understand the wines of this region.
Lovely people who are so helpful. We also met one of the local wine makers and bought directly from him.
Great wine tasting experience
the owner ensures the dishes are unique and first class. without doubt, worth the visit
We got a free wine tasting and was met with a nice staff that spoke good English. Worth a trip.
Very nice place with great choice of Monbazillac wines
Bad service, or Heather none. Nice environment.

Perhaps the staff have been on a customer service course, they weren’t that bad! Great value, adults less than 8€ and the private box 6€. We took a picnic, plenty of picnic tables and the site was clean and tidy. The pools ideal for younger children, my two daughters loved it. Two water slides, enjoyed by all ages, fantastic family day out, no complaints here :-)
Nice small water park. Our 2 yr old enjoyed it. There's a small play area as well with benches at the back. Yes it's very tired but overall fine.
Walked 1 hour to get to the waterpark to find it was closed!!!! Yet website says open!!!! Not happy😪
Website says open from 1 June. 4th June it's still closed.
Bit shabby, limited slides but the kids had an OK time
My child absolutely loves it
(Translated by Google) I went there with my 3 children at the end of August just before the start of the school year 😊 The park is not too bad but a lot of gray areas which make me give a rating like this. Welcomed by an old lady and I rarely have such an unsmiling and unpleasant person. I don't understand why she still remains employed... The young one, on the other hand, is very nice 😊 We still need a good renovation almost everywhere... the slide stairs, the outdoor game is a good idea but super dangerous for children. Otherwise the boxes to rent for the day are a great idea, the lifeguard supervises correctly and it quickly builds confidence. The price remains correct but a little improvement of the park would really not be bad.
(Translated by Google) A nice place to have a good time. The entrance fee isn't excessive. There are four water slides for a great thrill, a ping-pong table, a volleyball court, and a small children's playground. For 6 euros, you can rent a box for the day with two deckchairs and two chairs. The pools are still in need of cleaning. There's an interesting and reasonably priced selection of meals.

Fascinating and cleverly curated museum — well worth a visit! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Tobacco Museum in Bergerac. It’s surprisingly interesting and very cleverly arranged. Although all the written information throughout the museum is in French, the visit begins with an excellent short film (around 15 minutes) that explains the history of tobacco — with English subtitles. This film provides a solid foundation, so you’re able to understand and appreciate everything you see afterwards, even without translations on the displays. The museum also features some interactive screens and a surprising amount of art related to tobacco — from advertising to fine art, which adds a rich cultural layer to the experience. The entrance fee is very reasonable at only €5 for adults, and children go free, which makes it a great family option. There’s also a small gift shop at the entrance with tobacco related books and other little things One tip: be aware that the museum closes for lunch between 12:00 and 14:00, so plan your visit accordingly. Highly recommended if you’re in Bergerac and looking for something a bit different!
A interesting museum over 4 floors with many items to look at but it is ruined to the fact the exhibits are not translated to English and are all in French. Price is fair for museum. Worth a visit.
Nice museum, interesting collection in a wonderful old building.
Interesting visit …. But I cannot believe I smoked so many cigarettes in the early 70s and so glad I gave up …quitté! The artefacts and information are very detailed with informative film but nothing that I could see or hear about health implications. Maybe I missed it as I am English and only speak and read a little french. Having said this the visit was very interesting informative and the historical pipes were amazing
As someone with 0 interest in tobacco I was surprised at how good this exhibition was. Very interesting with alot to see! Would recommend it to anyone visiting Bergerac.
Interesting & novel. Excellent layout with informative exhibitions. Well worth the visit.
Mixed messages! Poor customer service on arrival, but it improved when staff, hopefully, realised how rude they had been when we interrupted their conversation to ask for tickets to get in. Large and authentic displays well conserved and displayed. No display words are in English and the English leaflet is very brief. Film was good with English sub-titles. Gave a good history of tobacco use in all societies across the globe, but completely omitted that last 50 years discoveries about the dangerously harmful aspects of smoking and implied it wasn’t all that bad. Now I wonder who paid for this museum!
Although interesting and some intriguing artefacts, it's spoilt by not having any translations on all the descriptions wich means your done in about 25 minutes. Everything is in French only.
