Castiglione della Pescaia

Castiglione della Pescaia is a coastal town in Tuscany, Italy. The hilltop Castello di Castiglione della Pescaia is a medieval fortress with sweeping views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Skirted by the Pineta del Tombolo pine forest, the wetlands of Natural Reserve Diaccia Botrona have flamingos and herons, plus the Casa Rossa Ximenes observation point. Northwest, the resort town of Punta Ala offers beaches with calm waters.

Beautiful scenery, lots of wildlife and great place for the kids.
Didnt see any birds. Except in big distance
We went to see flamingos. The visitor center was not open so we went for a shorts walk with our kids. We saw a few flamingos. They were just white and not pink.
Beautiful spot for bird watching. Male sure to bring binoculars with you. Also mosquito spray. You can also book a boatstour lasting 1h.
Free parking available in front of the park. Definitely worth visiting!
Friendly, professional guides at the museum and a nice evening walk. Be aware of opening hours.
Never visit it in Summer! Too hot and humid. I almost fainted. Plus...avoid the boat tour. Too short and too expensive. 12 euros each!!! Holy smokes! You can birwatch the same from the roof of the Red House Ximenes. Or walk to the observation point for free.
We had a lovely walk today round the reserve. They do need to replace the notice boards with details of the wildlife as they unreadable.

Bagno Alessandro is a beach club that is equipped with sun umbrellas and sunbeds. There is a restaurant and a bar, and a place where you can eat your own food in the shade. They have a private parking included in the price and its very convenient if you are in a wheelchair. There is a volleyball field. The beach is very well maintained, the water is clean and overall it’s a quiet place. Overall great value for your money
We all had a very nice time and I would recommend this place. We arrived about 12:30pm. Parking is super easy. An attendant tells you the price (€25 for 2 sunbeds and 1 umbrella when we were there on June 30 2022, but I have read prices will increase in peak times in July and august) and hands you a ticket to give at the beach. It’s a very short walk (50m) and You give the ticket and tell how many sun beds you want and pay. We did not try to pay with card as we read only cash was accepted. Then, a different attendant asks you to choose your sun beds and will come with you to put the umbrella up (umbrella down means sunbeds free, umbrella up means taken). There are 2 toilets for women which was fine in June but not sure about the busiest time in August. You can go to the bar and order sandwiches, Prosecco, beer, melon etc but not full meals to have at your sun beds. We were fine with this but I wonder if other beach clubs in Castiglione de Pascaia would have a full service menu to your sunbeds. The beach is beautiful white sand and the water clear and warm. It’s very very shallow. I am 167cm / 5’8” and never was it above my chest. Very calm and safe for kids and cautious swimmers. Overall we absolutely loved our time here but wish there was more variety of food and drink available and that there was waiter service at the sunbeds.
Very expensive service, our car got keyed/damaged while we parked there. Definitely not recommended!
Unfriendly staff. On the 31st July We arrived at 3pm and asked to have an umbrella. He replied 30€. My husband was ready to pay I was suspicious and asked how much was for the entire day and he said 30€. I told him how can you ask €30 for half day and he said this is the price take it or leave it. This is not the Tuscany welcome. They don't know how to do business. Not recommend
I had lunch at the restaurant. I had Gnocchi agli Scampi and it had exactly 2 scampis. Quite the rip-off. The rest (staff, drinks, …) was ok.
Wonderful Beach, nice place.. Horrible loud music from where ever.. The techno Bass was heard at the whole Beach..
Unfriendly staff, not helpful and always suspicious. Did not feel welcomed. Nice facilities but not worth the hassle of dealing with the two owners. Lifeguard staff ok.
Good public beach. Relatively clean for the Italian seaside.

Great place to spend the day at the beach. Great food and service.
The beach is charming, but this review is only about the bar next to the toilets where they sell sandwiches. The selection is very poor and out of the few we chose a tuna spread sandwich. When I opened the sandwich, there were only 2 pathetic pieces of tomato and old lettuce. Where is the tuna? I ask the waiter. The waiter replied very arrogantly: "If you have a problem, go and solve it with the boss." 😅 Not only is the price extremely exorbitant and absolutely not in line with the food they sell, but the waiter is so arrogant? And her face shows that she has no interest in being here for the customers. I have no words and I really do not recommend this establishment. Better take your own snack than spend your money here. 🙃
Clean and warm water in a calm and natural environment
Very Nice Beach Club! Perfect Beach, Food und Service!
Not a sophisticated restaurant but prices are good and they have so hundreds of tables under great shade. They can serve many people fast and they all can sit down. The beach is great the parking is not free and around 200 m from the beach. Shower is paying too.
nice restaurant but we had a problem at the beach. after having a nice lunch in the restaurant we started walking towards the free beach to put our umbrellas, but we were harrassed by the officer responsible for the beach beds. he told us that we cannot walk on the beach, that it was private property! we told him that we were only walking to the free beach (which was only a few meters away), and we were not interested in staying in this so called private beach. but he kept on harrasing us. he followed us and tried to block our way physically. when we told him that beaches are public property and we can walk on the beach, he said we could call the police! this incident ruined our pleasant experience at the restaurant, whose staff was very friendly. DO NOT GO TO THIS BEACH. because the person who harrassed us has the potential to be violent... we will also stop going to this restaurant unless they cut their ties with the beach bed people, or find another way to manage their beach beds...
After many trips in Toscanini country we visit see sight for entire day . You must rent two sun beds for round 20€ for two, you can relax with separate beach , close to free toilet in that complex, there is food as well and of course water :D ... you can teach little ones how to swim because water is very shallow for very long time :)
One of the most greatest beaches. Clear water, clean sand and most decent people I've meet so far on a beach.

Gorgeous Tuscany view with very friendly staff! The beauty and peacefulness of the Tuscan land mixed with the powerful feeling of the winery is breathtaking. On the outside is a gorgeous land that is well manicured and perfect for pictures but open the door and you’ll find yourself in a luxurious underground winery with heavy wine machinery & character. Don’t expect this to be cheap! Wine tour plus light lunch was €75 per person. 3 wines… 2 reds and 1 white but all are great. Bring a camera… better yet, bring a photographer to take pictures of you as the view is stunning!
Le Mortelle is a beautiful winery in Tuscany, just outside of Castiglione della Pescacia. The setting is stunning, including rolling Tuscan hills, interesting architecture, and panoramic views. We tasted three wines (one white and two reds), presented by a sommelier. The wines were at various price points, all from estate fruit. We paired the tasting with a cheese plate and lunch, which we enjoyed in a Le Mortelle's beautiful garden setting. The food was fresh and flavorful, with allergen info clearly listed. Some of the products are grown on the estate, like the blueberry jam (and we took home a pack of blueberries). Our server had great energy and was quite funny. Everyone we interacted with spoke English and made us feel welcome. Although Le Mortelle is owned by the the expansive Antinori Family of wineries (which includes Stags Leap Wine Cellars and Antinori Napa Valley in Napa Valley, CA and Haras de Pirque in Maipo, Chile). The resources show in the setting, wine quality and level of hosptiality. If you appreciate great wine and food in an elevated (but still friendly) atmosphere, this is a home-run. Make a reservation if you're coming on a weekend.
Beautiful patio, wonderful service and great description of the wines. A bit windy but good shade and very pretty.
Le Mortelle is a winery you won’t easily forget because of its setting and atmosphere. The place has a stunning ambiance – spacious, well-kept, and with a view that’s simply breathtaking. The service isn’t particularly outstanding and can feel a bit slow at times, but it hardly matters when you’re overlooking the vineyards and the beautiful landscape. If you’re looking for a memorable spot where wine and scenery come together, this is the place to be.
If you love wine and architecture, this is the place. An artistic and beautiful wine production facility, not to be missed. Dinner at Le Mortelle was amazing.
Total disappointment — would not recommend We booked a tour several weeks in advance and specifically requested that it be provided in English. Our group of seven was given a set time, and through both email and phone correspondence we were assured the tour would be in English. We also asked that the wine tasting consist only of white wines, since some in our group do not drink red. On the day of the tour, after driving two hours to get there, we were told the tour could only be given in Italian because the English translator was not available. To make matters worse, the staff implied the miscommunication was somehow our fault. The staff were unhelpful and dismissive. Hoping to salvage the visit, one of our friends offered to translate for the group, which was initially accepted. However, just a few minutes in, he was told to stop because it was “disturbing” other clients — despite the fact that it was the only way for us to follow along. At that point, we decided to leave rather than pay for a tour most of us couldn’t understand. As we walked away, the guide actually laughed at us and made a joke to the remaining guests — highly unprofessional and disrespectful. We tried to share our concerns with management, but instead of taking responsibility for a clear series of mistakes, they initially blamed us. Only after much discussion did they offer a bottle of wine, which felt like too little, too late. Overall, this experience was a complete waste of time and energy. Unprofessional service, poor communication, and zero accountability. I would strongly advise against booking here.
⸻ AVOID!!! We booked a tour for 7 people in English and traveled 2 hours to get to the estate, only to be told upon arrival that they could only offer a tour in Italian. We had also requested a tasting focused mainly on white wines, but they flatly refused to accommodate this. The staff were extremely rude and made no effort to find a solution. I even offered to translate for my friends during the tour, but they said it would “disturb other clients.” Unbelievable. We ultimately decided to walk away rather than waste our time. Truly shocking lack of professionalism — don’t waste your time or money here.
Unprofessional and extremely rude staff I have booked a tour in english with wine tasting for 7 people after communicating both on the phone and on email. I am Italian but my friends are foreigners so we needed a tour in English. I have also requested on email if possible to switch red wine for white for 2 people only given they do not drink red. When we arrived at the day and time booked the lady at the reception told us that the tour was only in Italian as the english tour was in the morning... and it was not possible to switch wines as that was not part of their package. My friend and I tried to find a solution by purchasing a separate white wine bottle and translate for our english friends so that the day would not been ruined after driving for 2 hours to get there. As soon as the tour started the lady told us off saying that was not possible for us to translate because we would have been a distraction for the other guests...so we decided to leave the tour. The tour lady reaction was appaling, she made fun of us with the other guests and carried on. This behaviour is completely unacceptable, sometimes misunderstandings can happen but I have never been treated this bad as a customer in my all life, this was so unprofessional and frankly offensive. Eventually I spoke with the floor manager who was more understanding, she offered us a bottle of wine as an apology but honestly it was too late. I suggest you train your staff properly because they clearly do not know how to deal with customers.

Fairly easy to get to. The car park Parcheggio da Spaggia de Capezzolo was tight but fair price fir the day. Then we got onto the beach which was sandy and the water is fairly close to the umbrellas and sun loungers. We rented our sun loungers and umbrella from the chap at the cafe bar and he took us to our umbrella and sun loungers. We were literally on the waters edge. Perfect setting for a wonderful day. The close proximity of your neighbours does not lend itself to private conversations or space so be aware the next sun loungers and people are an arm's length next to you. Would recommend coming to this beautiful beach and location well worth the drive.
We went on a weekday and had no issues finding a spot. Two beds & one umbrella for €25/day with free parking. You can pre-order lunch and they will call you at the time slot you choose. Very convenient amenities with a beautiful beach.
What a wonderful place … coffee in the morning, bubbles on tab and nice snacks and food for lunch. People always happy and helpful
ATTENTION SCAMER 🚨 We wanted to spend a nice evening and were completely ripped off by the kiosk owner. The food wasn't what we ordered. It was also way too salty and tasted like diarrhea. The price was way too high! I strongly advise against buying anything from the kiosk. It's better to go to another beach or bring your own food.
A place you always want to come back … bubbles at the beach, chilling atmosphere 🏖️😎 from breakfast coffee to aperetivo 🥂🥂🥂also delicious food for take away or sit in 🏖️🏖️🏖️
Amazing place to relax and eat good food! Very nice staff. Incredible homemade food. The owner was always very attentive with us and one day the credit card machine was not working and he said I could pay the next day when he could have say to go to a bank machine and take money. Loved everything there. Highly recommended.
So bad. I came from Germany and the food was way too expensive and didnt taste good. Some of the meat was raw and they werent really polite
