Victoria

Victoria (also known as Rabat) is the capital of Gozo Island, in Malta. It’s known for its medieval Citadel, with fortified walls. Within the Citadel, the Gran Castello Historic House is a folklore museum. Gozo Museum of Archaeology has prehistoric stone sculptures. Gozo Cathedral, with a richly painted ceiling, dates to the baroque era. Walls at the 16th-century Old Prison are covered in etchings by former inmates.

I was a bit worried at first about the quality of the whole experience since the cinemas in Malta are... different. However, this cinema blew me away. It's a truly old-school, well-preserved gem with two screens, ticket office and toilets - that's basically it, no flashy stuff, no aggressive promotion. The place is run with care and every employee has been nothing but helpful. The quality of the sound and the image is good, and the seats are comfy. You can buy popcorn and drinks just round the corner. Overall, I went here almost every week of the summer, and it is such a nice getaway to the old-school cinema experience!
Amazingly beautiful place. But uou need to visit when it's sunny because you nees to see the sights and the citadel from outside. Heritage pass works for the museum of archeology here as well.
A very nice way to spend a Saturday eve The sound is perfect The staff helpful Really happy there was no intermission
This place is amazing live the time stopped in the old centuries. Ruins, museum, canons, stones, huge tower, this place is worth it. You can enjoy the panoramic view from atop and follow the paths to the garden downstairs I highly recommend it
Very quaint. Comfy seating. Friendly staff. Great value and quality.
Only €7 to watch a main stream movie (John Wick 4) quirky place, also buy your snacks across the road before going in.
The complex has two cinema auditoriums. Well maintained with great sound and picture quality. The air-condition is perfect ( might tend to be in the fresher side). Maybe st if the times there is no intermission so take any refreshments in with you. You can book your tickets online. Try to be there a bit early because people tend not to respect the seating allocations as per ticket especially so once the lights are off. There are numerous shops selling refreshments in the area. The staff do keep the place clean but do help out and take your rubbish out with you.
I had never been to the cinema in Gozo before. However I went to watch Fantastic Beasts the Crimes of Grindelwald last weekend. The theater for cinema 1 is not overly huge, however the tickets are very well priced and the service is good! So overall very happy and would go again.

Very nice basilica with beautiful church style paintings. Intricate designs. It is recommended for tourists to keep silence not only for praying residents but also because it is a place of worship. A suggestion for tourists - please don't let's the entry door bang again and again. It disturbs the people who are praying. It would be civil to guide the door to close silently.
3 euro to get in then you get wristband Can pay cash or card Have disposal poncho to use if you wear shorts or sleeveless shirt It's beautiful and peaceful there
★★★★☆ I recently visited the Basilica of St. George in Victoria, and it was a fantastic experience! The architecture is impressive, and the interior decor is simply stunning. The beautiful frescoes and stained glass windows particularly stood out. I visited on a weekend, and although there were many tourists, I didn't feel uncomfortable. The staff was friendly and eager to help. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in Gozo. This place is full of history and spirit.
A nice and clean place. Quite peaceful, with plenty of cafés, restaurants, and shops. It’s very safe, without undocumented individuals posing as doctors or engineers like in Western Europe.
If there’s one church to visit in Gozo, it is this one!! Way too underrated! It’s truly a wonder, never saw that in my entire life
I was lucky to arrive during the daily live tour (certain days for the tours) and the guide was very informative which i felt I wouldn't have enjoyed the visit as much as i did with the information he provided. The guide also translated to Italian so one was left out. Absolutely beautiful basilica, the architecture is great and the community has done very well
Another must see basilica. Again the architectural design is unbelievable. How they could build these churches with just hand tools. No electrical tools or cranes 😲
I didn't sign up to the free WiFi/ tour, and only walked around not even going into the shops and just climbed up to get a look at the view. The whole place is a well kept group ancient buildings but I didn't want to stop and there are a lot of steps, but there are ramps for those who need them. It was popular.

Bought the Cittadella Combo Ticket. €13 adults/ €9 seniors and students with proof of student ID / €7 children under 11. This price bought entrance to the Cittadella Visitor’s Center, Gozo Museum of Archaeology, The Old Prison, Gozo Nature Museum and the Gran Castello Historic House. All of these places were visited and the grounds were walked within a period of two and a half hours without any stops for bathroom, coffee or food. There are plenty of bathrooms and areas to eat, drink or snack. The Old Prison is a rather small exhibit with a wealth of information. It is well worth visiting to learn who was held here, why, when, and how they lived. There is a small gift shop near the entry. It took twenty minutes to walk through the exhibit during an off season.
The museum is very basic, though I found the little information available quite interesting. It took around 10 mins to look around the prison. It was free as part of the combined ticket (see below). You can go in one of the prison cells, and see into a couple more (the entire prison is 6 cells, two hallways, and another open air room. Entry to the museum is €5 on its own (not good value) or €13 as part of a combined ticket that includes 5 Citadella museums (Citadella visitor centre), museum of archaeology, old prison, Gran Castillo historic house, and nature museum) as well as the Ggantija Archeological park (€10 on its own, making the combined ticket worthwhile) and Ta Kola windmill.
Small but nice bit of history to see, the whole area is free for the most part and the small cost to go into a couple of the buildings was worth it.
This museum was included in the very advantageous and recommended thirty day Heritage Malta Multisite Pass. It was worth visiting while at the Citadel, with some interesting historical context and graffiti in the cell.
Not very big, but still worth a visit and a photo in the stocks!
Small passage between prison cells, you can go inside one, there are old markings, writings and sketches of ships, very interesting, whole experice takes max 10 minutes. Not bad, but also not missing out on anything special. Entrance fee is 5 euros, is valid for 2 more museums in the citadel ( but not the cathedral ). Museums are very small.
Well preserved old prison with original graffiti on the wall
I personally love in historical sites the « people like me lived here once » vibe. This is a place like this. What I loved about it is that you get to see all the graffiti’s that cellmates from the 19th century drew into the wall, that is pretty amazing if you are into this kind of things

This is a nice walk around the fortress in Victoria, one of the most famous and well-preserved in Malta. I believe you need to pay 10 EUR to see the interior of the Cathedral. I did not go but enjoyed the view and bust of John Paul II.
I visited on a weekend and was pleasantly surprised that entry to the interior was free. It’s a beautiful cathedral with stunning architecture. I highly recommend stopping by, especially if you’re in the area and like these type of architecture. Well worth a visit!
The Cathedral of the Assumption is absolutely stunning and a highlight of any visit to Gozo. The architecture is breathtaking, with elegant details and a serene atmosphere that makes you pause and take it all in. The beautifully painted ceiling and intricate interior design are works of art in themselves. Located within the historic Ċittadella, the cathedral offers both spiritual and cultural significance, making it a must-see for history and architecture enthusiasts. The entrance fee is only €5, and it even includes access to the museum, which provides fascinating insights into the cathedral’s history and artifacts. A peaceful and inspiring place that truly captures the island’s heritage—highly recommended!
Great place to visit. amazing construction and interesting place to explore. Great views over the town and the whole of northern Gozo. Parking near it is hard but there are lots of places in walking distance you can park. It took us a couple of hours to do the whole thing. The church is worth a visit but you have to get a ticket for that. Would recommend a visit.
We were not able to go in as they were in the middle of a holiday service. We walked around and admired the architecture - stunning! There is also a Cathedral Museum, but it was closed that time of evening. I definately need to go back and study the Baroque-style church.
I loved the architecture. But I dont support that I have to pay so much to pray
I got shouted at by staff member in front of other tourists for taking a picture of a random corridor (attached) in a publicly accessible area. Then she started demanding I delete the picture in front of her. I just walked out and left her still shouting at me from behind. I left soon after because it had ruined the mood and I had already seen want I wanted to see. Thank god, I didn’t pay to enter only to be shouted at like that. Are staff members trained to shout at non-paying tourists for taking photographs inside the reception areas? What would Jesus think of that?? Ridiculous! I see an earlier review from 8 years ago of someone experiencing a similar scenario. Staff members should be trained better that they can only ask people not to take photos and not shout and demand the photo to be deleted.
A stunning place with incredible architecture and rich history. Clean, safe, and welcoming—no doctors or engineers roaming around like in Western countries.

I didn’t pay to enter the museum as I arrived late in the afternoon, but to explore the Citadel was free - so this is what I did. The complex has great views, and there are placards dotted around with information about this impressive landmark. The Citadel also contains a few shops selling local goods, and a couple of restaurants.
Credit card only. Will not accept Euro. 10 minute Video available upon entry. Worth viewing before heading off to the five museums in order to get a historical overview. Bathrooms nearby the main entry: have toilet paper, soap and hand dryer. There are other toilets throughout the complex. A map is available upon entry.
We went to Gozo citadel. The citadel itself is free to enter but I recommend purchasing the museum tickets at the center. They are very fairly priced at about 5€/Adult. This ticket grants you access to the short film, the three museums in the citadel, the old prison, and the old house. All of these sites are very nicely preserved and educational. I thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Please note: the cathedral requires extra tickets not included, a minor issue that I think would be nice to add to the tickets.
Great spot to visit even on a Monday (buildings are closed)! It allows views all over the island from up high. During a siege war. there was a time when all (!) Gozitans lived inside these walls!
Not much in the visitor centre but is very informative. It’s just on the right hand side after you climb the hill before going up to the gate. It’s best to buy your tickets for all the other attractions here.
Amazing place, historical museum on open, with two gorgeous churches and wonderful views on a whole landscape of Gozo island... Worth to visit! You will learn a lot about Maltese history and stay out of breath of nature beauty!
Nice museum and spectacular views from the top.
Cittadella was Amazing!!! We have visited different castles on this trip in different countries and this was the most complex. It walls and gates and one set walls higher than the next. Stairs and alleys that made you feel like you were in a Maze. Lots of ups and downs and some dead ends. It's one castle built on and around a previous one multiple times over hundred's if not a thousand plus years. This piece of land has been a defensive point for centuries and they have the Archeology finds to prove it. Most people can go through the castle property in a couple of hours. My wife and I spent over 5 hours and didn't see everything because many things onsite close at 1 pm (1300) on Sundays. Definitely worth the visit and pay the $5 Euro for the Museum Ticket because it gets you into all the Museums on the grounds. There is one house that is worth the fee.

The Citadel is an interesting place to visit. Walking through the narrow historic streets and looking at the Victoria skyline is an unforgettable adventure. The archaeological museum is worth seeing.
Small museum with some interesting displays. Less than one hour to see the displays.
The museum has poor exhibits and not great information. It took around 10 mins to traverse. It was free as part of the combined ticket (see below), but I think it's not worth the time unless you have a significant interest in archaeology.
One of five museums available for the daily citadel pass. I rated this one the lowest of the five.
Small and interseting museum about history of a citadell and its souroundings, whole experience is in 3 small rooms, takes about 5 min to look around, if you are not deeply inte the details.
Some interesting things and together with the museum in Valletta, inspired us to visit the actual temples in person. Part of the 5 museums you can visit for EUR 5 at Citadel.
It’s a rather smaller but informative museum. It only has two floors with small rooms. Although there was quite a bit on display, I feel like I was better informed at other museums. Still decent none the less.
This museum is small but has many interesting stuff like what did they use and also shows a real skull and parts of a human.
