If you are in San Miniato, you can easily cl8mb the torrent. Great views on a clear day from Florence to Volterra.
This place is amazing, it oversees the whole plain around the hill. The tower itself was surely great, but unfortunately the German army destroyed it during World War II. In 1958, it was rebuilt like it was before.
The walk to the tower is not the easiest, but wow, that view is amazing
Beautiful view and made for some great photos, only 4 stars because the tower itself is nothing exciting to look at. If you like history this is a good place for you. They had some nice reading about the history of the San Miniato. Cute downtown with some nice bars and restaurants. Hot in July, the weather has been consistently 85-95 each day throughout Italy.
Great place to visit. It’s a nice climb from the car park and a beautiful view from the tower base. It’s also possible to climb the tower but we didn’t do that.
Tower is meh, but the views are stunning!!! A bit of a hike to get up but nothing too major! It took us about 10 minutes from the town center. You can see for miles and miles! What a great view! I was surprised to find hardly anyone up there. Tuscany is truly so beautiful, and this vantage point was one of the best views we witnessed!
When yourn the vicinity of San Minitat, make sure you climb the hill to the tower. For an extra couple of euros you get great views of the surrounding hills and villages. Tuscany on your hand.
The view on top of the tower is nice, but not sure it’s worth it. The village itself is much nicer and has several beautiful churches and plazzas.

We wanted to do a wine tasting and came across this place. We wanted to book for the same day. We made the booking at 11:30 for 15:00 in the afternoon on the same day! We booked the tour as well as the wine tasting, which was awesome! There is a choice to also order a meat or vegetarian plate to go with the wine tasting. The vegetables on the vegetarian plate were harvested from the same ground as the vinyard. The meat and vegetarian bites tasted great! During the tour you get to see where the whole process of the wine making takes place, which is super interesting. The guide knew everything about it and could answer any question. The wine tasting was also a very nice experience. It tasted great and also during the tasting there was room for questions. We ended up purchasing a couple bottles. It was really great and interesting. 100% recommend!
I had an absolutely wonderful experience visiting the vineyard! The wine tasting was exceptional – each wine was delicious and beautifully presented. Lunch prepared by the chef of restaurant Olivum exceeded all expectations – every dish was full of flavor and perfectly paired with the wines. What made the visit even more special was the guided tour of the vineyard led by Nico. His stories, knowledge, and passion for winemaking brought the whole experience to life. A truly unforgettable day – highly recommended to anyone who appreciates great wine, food, and warm hospitality!
We booked a tour easily for our group of 13, our host was very knowledgeable about the vineyard and explained all the processes brilliantly and answered all our questions with ease. The wine tasting was exceptional with 5 wines and 1 olive oil to enjoy. Most of us bought wine to bring home. Overall a fabulous well run small family business. Value for money was excellent at €40 euros per head. Can definitely recommend.
Wonderful and relaxing afternoon learning about the different grapes, climates, and how wine is made at this boutique winery. We had a relaxed tour and then tasted some lovely wines with meat, cheese, and bread. We were able to meet the owner as there is only about 6 employees. The operation is small and relatively new located in the valley so if you are looking for the rustic, large winery on a hill this is not for you.
Fabio was fantastic. He gave an amazing tour of the vineyard and the wine making process. We tasted a number of wines from fizzy rose to rich reds. They also make oil which is delicious and we tasted it with wine cheese an fabulous meats. They made a vegetarian dish for my wife which she enjoyed and I appreciated. It’s a smaller vineyard that had only a few other guests making it a perfect place to enjoy the Tuscan wine and learn about the process on how it is made. The family is so nice and shipping wines to the US is available.
We had a great time at this active vineyard. We arrived after a tour had already begun, but the host (Fabio) was flexible and let us join in the existing group for tasting the wine and the gave us a private tour of the vineyard afterwards. Fabio spoke excellent English and was able to answer all of our questions clearly. The environment was just lovely and the facilities they have established were perfect for our visit. Clean and tidy and very modern. The wine itself was clearly of very good quality and something Fabio was justly proud of. He provided breads, cheeses and meats to nibble during the tasting and they were locally sourced and also lovely. For €25 per person, I thought this was a great value and would highly recommend a visit if in the area.
Fantastic tour and tasting in beautiful Tuscany! We had a great time at Agrisole. We were able to taste all of their wines as well as their olive oil paired with bread, salami and cheeses and even homemade jams and the most delicious ragu. The wines are all reasonably priced and we enjoyed the small winery experience. Highly recommend.
The best wine tasting experience we’ve had in Tuscany! It so nice to have a sneak pick to a small, very professional, family business - they even engraved their children’s initials on each wine bottle. Nicoletta was very professional and her enthusiasm was contagious. The wine was delicious and Mama prepared some vegetarian options specifically for us 🤩 In the end we had to buy 2 bottles!

Super location in the centre of San Miato Alto. Very friendly and laid-back staff, accommodating for early arrivals and with an understanding of the specific needs of Via Francigena travellers. Some of the VF hostels can be a bit overbearing with their rules, here they found the perfect balance! I had a bed in the downstairs room which has two bunk beds and opens to a nice outside space. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and didn't squeak. Each bed space has a wall plug to charge your phone and power banks as well as a small light. The bathrooms and toilets were clean and there is an excellent small kitchen with a fridge and cooking utensils. What makes this Ostello so charming is the terrace just in front of the entrance overlooking the valley, a perfect place to chill, and have a meal or breakfast. Mosquito netting on the windows would be a nice touch!
We found the bathroom completely flooded and unusable. The place totally Lacks maintenance
Pros: directly on via Francigena, bed soft Cons: bathrooms flood and showers don’t drain, bad smell throughout hostel, pillows smelled like sweat, very hot but biggest problem is MOSQUITOES. Even with screens on window I still woke up covered in mosquito bites. Did not sleep at all between heat and mosquitoes
For a short stay, the Ostello is perfect.
Right in the center of San Miniato. Nice looking place with excellent facilities. Great value for money.

Beautiful and interesting facade.
The old seminary of san miniato

In 1705-1708, Bishop Giovanni Francesco Maria Poggi commissioned the decoration of the facade to an artist named Francesco Chimenti. The eighteenth-century decoration makes the building a single large, perfectly united block and expands its surface area. The facade is decorated with 30 frescoes of allegorical figures of virtue, each accompanied by a biblical or Church Fathers quote explaining the meaning of the allegory. It is evident that there was a strong influence of the bishop in the creation of the iconographic program of the facade. Frescoes were important for conveying moral teachings and dogmas, as well as emotionally engaging the viewer. Furthermore, some of the phrases used accompanying the allegories come from a text written by Cesare Ripa, called Iconologia, which was used by many artists and which had a great influence on the figurative arts. (Translated by Google) The first phase of construction of the Episcopal Seminary of San Miniato began in 1650, but it took 63 years to complete its construction. Only from 1705-1708 did Monsignor Giovanni Francesco Maria Poggi commission the decoration of the façade to Francesco Chimenti da Fucecchio. Although years have passed for the construction of the building, the eighteenth-century decoration makes the Palace seem like a single large, perfectly united homogeneous block, as well as expanding its wall surface. The façade of the Seminary is decorated with 30 frescoes of allegorical figures of virtue, each connected with a biblical or Church Fathers sentence that explains the meaning of the corresponding allegory. It is obvious, therefore, that, for the purposes of interpreting allegories, the connection between the meaning of the Latin maxim and the allegory that accompanies it is very important. We can believe that there was a strong influence of Monsignor Giovanni Francesco Maria Poggi in the creation of the iconographic program of the facade. The logic that follows the decoration is visible, for example, already from the first allegories starting from the wing at right angles to the rest of the building: here is the representation of the three theological virtues, namely Faith, Hope and Charity . They prepare Christians to live in relationship with God because he is known through faith, hoped for and then loved. It must certainly have been clear in the mind of the bishop of San Miniato that the allegory frescoes, like all images of a religious nature, are fundamental for transmitting a set of moral teachings and dogmas to the public, as well as having the ability to emotionally involve the viewer. Moreover, we must remember that the frescoes decorate a building, the Seminary, whose purpose is the learning of ecclesiastical principles and study: there must undoubtedly be a connection between the purpose of the exterior and the interior. Furthermore, in the mottos that accompany two allegories on the facade there are words taken from a Latin quotation found in the pages of the Iconologia in which Cesare Ripa describes the allegory of Chastity and the Christian Religion. These two allegories can be represented on the facade of the Seminary because they are two religious virtues. Furthermore, the "strange" coincidence of finding the exact words reproduced suggests that Monsignor Poggi directly used, at least in part, Cesare Ripa's Iconology. This text, first published in 1593, had many subsequent publications, including one in 1625, before the decoration of the facade. Iconology is one of the texts from which many artists drew inspiration and which had a great influence on the figurative arts. It is for this reason that to interpret the allegories of the Palazzo del Seminario the main text source is Cesare Ripa's Iconology published in 1625. In addition to this, however, I also used another very important text: the Moral Hieroglyphics by Vincenzo Ricci , text published in 1626. As regards the Latin mottos, however, they often show the name of the author on the facade, but, sometimes, the name painted in the box and the real author of the sentence do not coincide; furthermore, in some cases, the name of an author is not shown in the box on the front. We can hypothesize that this is due to the deterioration that the façade underwent between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century: it may have caused the disappearance of some names and the damage of others which may have then been mistakenly modified during the restorations. of the twentieth century.

Lovely biodynamic winery near the truffle capital of San Miniato offering great wine tasting lunch (come hungry) and a tour of the grounds and its cellar. English-speaking and pet-friendly.
Gorgeous views and thorough tour. We stopped here on our way to Pisa from Florence and learned a lot about the local grapes and special wine of this region. We tasted 3 different wines, ate bread with local cheese and olive oil. My 4 year old loved the dogs on site too. This is a quieter winery and with great service.
Lively place for a morsel and a drop of wine. Gorgeous vista's. Biodynamic wine. Delicious vin santo. Very friendly local dog. Plan for a couple of hours. Wine is a bit pricey.
We stumbled on this beautiful place on the way to Pisa from Florence. We were given a personal tour, wine tasting, and food samples, even though they had 2 bus loads of people. They were so kind and accommodating to us, and the wine and snacks were out of this world! The white wine was the best out of the 3 we tried! The information on our tour was so interesting as well. So glad to have found this gem! Highly recommend.
Went to a lunch and wine tasting while on a cruise shore excursion. Excellent prosciutto, salami, bread and cheese. Was absolutely fantastic time. Really good wine in beautiful country. Plus they had cute dogs running around!
Fantastic tour guide, amazing meal, flavorful wine tasting, all while the grapes were being harvested right next to us.
This vineyard was amazing! We had a tour and tasting with Maria herself!!! Very inviting and Biodynamic as well! Be prepared for lots of food and bread with your wine tasting!!!
Brilliant tour with some very tasty cheese meat bread and oil after. Your was great value and was really well delivered for all levels of experience. We also took our toddler around in his pram and that was no issue!
