Scenic summit & popular hiking destination with cable cars, a cliff walk & dramatic mountain views.

This mountain is a gem. It's an amazing place to be and just sit and watch the cows, the bees and the paragliders. I advise to go up by cable cart / furnicular and go down by hike. You could go even further up to the top but we didn't do that. Unfortunately there was a long line for the mountain carts so we went back by cable cart.
Season summer/ Perfect for hiking and viewpoints, a lot of cows. Approximately 25 minutes the cable car route. Winter Jacket, and sunglasses too 😅. But be careful. If you want to do extra activities there, you have to be there early because at 14:00 there was a waiting list of 150 , 190 minutes ..
We arrived at First Grindelwald around 3pm hoping to try some of the rides, but unfortunately they were all sold out except for the scooters, which we decided to skip. We still went up the gondola though, and it was worth it for the stunning views and the First Cliff Walk experience. To really make the most out of your gondola ticket, I recommend visiting earlier in the day or booking your rides online in advance so you don’t miss out like we did. The place is absolutely beautiful, but be prepared—it can get really crowded even on a weekday.
Nice weather when we went up and we spent quite a while marvelling at the beauty of the place. Spent a long time walking around, taking pictures and just enjoying the cool weather.
Expensive but also very beautiful scenery. Cost almost $200 U.S. dollars for two people. Cable car ride is 25 minutes and you can hike to the lake or do the cliff walk. I spent about a total of 4 hours here including the cable car ride.
Really nice place there also if you want to save up some money and not go to Jungfraujoch. The only “problem” is the weather and from what I’ve been told from people that work there 50% is good weather 50% is bad weather and foggy. Not that it’s a big problem . It was still really nice to me! But the view is much more clear obviously and you can definitely appreciate the beauty of the mountains all around in 360 view without the foggy weather :-)
One of the most beautiful places I have ever been! It was the highlight of the Swiss 🇨🇭 tour! Stunning! Plus saw a live avalanche
Spectacular views. It is a huge area and has something for everyone. Adventure, nature, play ground, viewpoint. We were there for hiking to Bachsee, 2 hours roundtrip.

Hike takes about an hour. Mostly a little uphill and at the end very rocky. Absolutely beautiful and out of this world views. The whole journey took us about 2 and a half hours with pictures and 2 stops along the way. Wear proper shoes and maybe a jacket because it does get windy a bit
My early morning visit to the Bachalpsee was a truly serene and peaceful experience. It was rather cloudy on my visit. Arriving before the crowds, the trail offered a rare sense of solitude and tranquility, with only the sound of nature to accompany the walk. The destination makes every step worthwhile. As you crest the final hill and the lake comes into view, you are greeted with one of the most breathtaking scenes in the entire region. The water of the lake is a stunning crystal-clear blue .
One of the most stunning lakes I have been! The walk takes about 1 hour or about 1 hour and 15 mins. It’s a long walk but simply worth it!
Visiting Bachalpsee is an experience you’ll never forget. Nestled high in the Bernese Alps near Grindelwald, this stunning mountain lake offers some of the most breathtaking views in Switzerland. The journey begins with a cable car ride to First, followed by a scenic hike that’s as rewarding as the destination itself. Along the way, you’ll pass through lush meadows, hear the gentle sound of cowbells, and enjoy panoramic vistas of snow-capped peaks. When you finally reach Bachalpsee, the sight is magical: crystal-clear waters reflecting the mighty mountains, including the iconic Wetterhorn and Schreckhorn. It’s the perfect spot to relax, take photos, or simply soak in the serenity of nature. The hike is moderate and suitable for most fitness levels, making it a great choice for families and solo travelers alike. What makes this experience unforgettable is the combination of fresh alpine air, stunning landscapes, and peaceful atmosphere. Whether you’re looking for adventure or tranquility, Bachalpsee delivers both. Bring a picnic, spend time by the lake, and don’t forget your camera—every angle is a postcard! Tip: Start early to avoid crowds and enjoy the calm morning light. Good hiking shoes and a light jacket are recommended, as weather can change quickly in the mountains.
Absolutely stunning spot, definitely worth the hike from First. Take a picnic and enjoy.
Bachalpsee in Grindelwald, Switzerland is worth the hike. Visited in June, took about an hour each way. The lake was calm and perfectly reflected the snowy peaks when we arrived. Clouds rolled in quickly on our way back, and we got caught in the rain just minutes before reaching the gondola. Buy tickets for First ahead to skip lines. No food at the lake, so bring snacks. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the region looking for a peaceful, crisp-air view that feels close enough to touch.
I visited this place during my 1 day trip to Switzerland. The hike from Grindelwald first is really beautiful. I visited in August and I could snow filled mountains around me. The hike to the lake is about 2.5 kms and usually takes 30-45 mins depending on your fitness level. It's easy to moderate hike and I have seens even kids and elderly people completing the hike. So definitely doable for most people. The view of the mountains over the lake is really amazing.
A peaceful alpine dream. The still waters of Bachalpsee reflect the snow-capped peaks like a painting. Just a short hike from First, but it feels like stepping into another world. Unforgettable.

Nothing better than getting lost and then hiking down from the mountain. We really enjoyed our experience on this trail. Pretty quiet and tranquil with very few people see aside from a few locals. Trail was well paved and we even found a rest area with some benches on the way down. Def did encounter a few sections with wasps but aside from that, pretty easy hike downhill.
A very beautiful mountain trail – not too mountainous, in my opinion more like a hiking path. But it’s really beautiful: you can enjoy nature, picturesque alpine farms, and a few local shops. We walked the trail between the Männlichen cable car and the Eiger railway station, which takes about 1.5 hours.
In my opinion, Mannlichen has the prettiest views in the Lauterbrunnen region. Do yourself a favor and pay to take the gondola to the top. You can then hike down the mountain at your leisure
Short but rewarding trail from Männlichen to the Royal Walk summit platform. Only takes about 20–30 minutes one way, and the 360° view from the top is spectacular - you can see the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau, and the Lauterbrunnen Valley below. Well maintained, safe, and totally worth the small climb.
A beautiful mountain with a plethora of travel connections either back down to Grindewald or across to Wegen. Also a lovely opportunity to take photos of the picturesque surrounding area, from all angles! There's also a variety of walks, either to the top of the mountain or across to the opposite train station which also offer these outstanding views. A lovely travel spot all around!
The cable car ride to Männlichen was an additional cost on top of our Swiss travel pass, but was well worth the extra CHF. On a clear day you can even see all the way to Interlaken from the top of the Royal Walk! If I were to return, I’d plan as a one way ticket from Lauterbrunnen/Wengen in the morning and then take the next set of cable cars down into Grindelwald to spend the rest of the day.
Stunning views and a great restaurant and hotel. The local cows often come to say hello too! Be aware that it is at an high altitude and you may get altitude sickness and shortness of breath. Just pace yourself and drink plenty of water.
Männlichen is claws! Great park for the kids and the Royal Walk is an easy way to see across the valleys of Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald. We used it to start our walk to Klein Scheidegg so it was everything we needed. The walk to Klein Scheidegg was a great way to extend the day at the top. Other options were walking back down or doing the train, but we felt the walk and catching the train down was a great adventure and not too hard for the kids. Perfect combination of spectacular Alpine views, family-friendly facilities, and flexible options for different activity levels. Highly recommended for families wanting an authentic Swiss mountain experience without overly challenging terrain.

The trail is not exposed or dangerous bet definitely rewarding. It's more towards easy than medium difficulty. If I would have had more time I would have added a further section as it felt a bit too short for me personally (I did Eigergletscher-Alpiglen).
Fantastic, get the cable car up to eigergleitscher and return from alpinglen and with half pass is only 25chf. The trail is pretty tough on the knees and joints with the steeper down hill sections at the end, but with the altitude coming up the other way would be a tough ask. Some lovely views out over the valley as you come down.
Our first hike in Switzerland was the Eiger Trail, and it was such a memorable experience! We went in the 2nd week of July and although the weather was so-so (spitting rain on and off), the views were still amazing. The trail itself is long but easy to manage, mostly going downhill without being too steep. Along the way, there are plenty of viewpoints to stop and take in the scenery, and we even came across cows walking freely which made the hike extra special. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch a glimpse of the Eiger peak during your hike—such a breathtaking sight! Highly recommend this trail for a scenic and enjoyable hike.
The Eiger Trail runs right beneath the famous north face of the Eiger — one of the most spectacular day hikes in Switzerland. Sure-footedness is a must, as the path crosses several waterfalls and rocky sections, but the route is well marked and safe for anyone used to alpine terrain. The views are unreal: glaciers, cliffs, and valley panoramas the whole way. Best done from Eigergletscher down to Alpiglen. Proper hiking shoes required - sneakers will not cut it here.
Beautiful trail at the foot of the Eiger north face. You can start at Alpiglen railway station and hike up to Eigergletscher. To make a round hike go to Kleine Scheidegg and follow the lower path back to Alpiglen. Amazing views.
I love this trail so much, I want to go back just to do it again! Truly incredible. Love how the weather changes along the route, too. A magical place.
Currently parts of the trail has slippery ice and narrow passage on the edge difficult one foot size passage and difficult if people ascending and descending same time I recommend carry crampon a traction device attached to footwear poles not helpful
What a wonderful hike! Our group decided to hike DOWN it after spending the morning visiting the Jungfrau station. Instead of taking the train all the way back down, we got off at the Eigergletscher station. From there, we followed signs for the trail, which takes you under the express tricable gondola entry point to the station (a neat thing to see). We stopped frequently for photos, so it took us 2-3 hours to get to Alpiglen, where we caught a train to Grindelwald. Note that this route is mostly downhill, so people with knee problems may struggle a bit with the repetitiveness of descending for so long. It was even getting to me a little by the end. We were tried from a very early morning, but we did consider walking the rest of the way to Grindelwald as well. Signs indicated it would have taken another 1.5 hours or so and it would have saved a lot of money, as the train from Alpiglen to Grindelwald was quite expensive. Overall, the hike was amazing. The pictures don't even come close to capturing how beautiful it was. Highly, highly recommend!

Winter scenery here just hits different. I took the gondola up to First. The ride itself was already amazing. At the top, I was greeted by stunning views of the snow covered peaks of the Eiger and that crisp mountain air. It was super cold, so make sure to layer up and wear proper winter gear. Walking along the cliff with the snowy landscape all around felt surreal. Such an unforgettable experience in Grindelwald!
Incredible views, a unique experience, and it's free! The walk is short and not too scary for those with a mild fear of heights. The line looks long but moves fast. Combine it with a hike to Bachalpsee or the First Mountain cart for the perfect day.
The First Cliff Walk is an unforgettable experience for anyone visiting Grindelwald. The walkway clings to the cliffside, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Swiss Alps. It’s thrilling yet safe, with sturdy paths and railings, and the scenery is absolutely stunning—snow-capped peaks, lush valleys, and crisp mountain air. Perfect for adventure lovers and photographers alike.
The First Cliff Walk is an amazing experience with breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys. The suspension bridge and walkway give you that little thrill without feeling unsafe. It’s well built, easy to access, and the scenery is worth every step. A must-do if you’re visiting Grindelwald, especially on a clear day.
It is a free to enter walk that loops around the side of the mountain back to the restaurant area. There is one particular spot where everyone is queuing up to take pictures of. Id highly recommend that as well because there views are just amazing. Be prepared to queue at least 30mins though. But its worth it.
We visited the First Cliff Walk in Grindelwald in the late afternoon, taking the cable car up around 5:15 PM. The ride up was quite foggy, and we weren’t sure if we’d be able to see anything at the top but thankfully, the clouds began to clear just enough to enjoy the views. The Cliff Walk itself is an exhilarating experience, with a secure metal walkway clinging to the edge of the mountain and a sky-high viewing platform that offers dramatic vistas (when the weather cooperates). Even in the fog, the atmosphere was magical, mystical, almost otherworldly, the dramatic drop-offs and the walkway clinging to the cliffside created an unforgettable experience. While on our way up and then at the summit, we could hear the soft clanging of cowbells echoing through the fog as it turns out, there were cows peacefully grazing high up in the alpine meadows, completely unbothered by the clouds or the altitude. It was surreal and strangely calming. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to make it to the lake, but the walk alone was well worth the trip. Just a heads-up: if you're hoping to hike further, it's best to arrive earlier in the day to allow time for both the walk and the trail to the lake. Absolutely recommend it and event the faint of the heart can make the most out their visit on the top and at the cliff walk.
Setting out on a clear, fog-free day will make the route 100% efficient. It's also possible to incorporate various sports activities into your return. If you have a Swiss Travel Pass, you can take advantage of a 50% discount.
A sweeping panorama of majestic alpine mountains under brilliant blue skies, with a lone paraglider soaring gracefully in the distance. Hear the whisper of the wind mingling with soft background chatter. Feel the awe of nature’s grandeur and the freedom of the open sky.

I went during summer and the weather was so brilliant. It offers you fairytale views you dream about Switzerland. You need to purchase tickets for the cable car onsite and it costed 32CHF round trip. Once you go up there are several other activities and i did the toboggan ride which was amazing and gave me the best views. For the toboggan ride you need to purchase the tickets separately and it is worth the money.
(update) The tickets are 32 chf for a return trip and it takes roughly 10 mins. The cable car experience is not the highlight, although it feels a little expensive. However, once you reach the top, the views are amazing, you can enjoy different activities like riding downhill on a cart or zip lining and there's a nice cafe/restaurant. overall the experience was great.
Went on a fair weather day, I wait till the official website indicated the toboggan is opened then rode up there. Unfortunately the rain came again I could do nothing but simply go back. There is Swiss pass discount here, the ticket office never ask or indicate it anywhere obvious. So ask before you pay!
We set out to enjoy a variety of fun activities accompanied by stunning views. If you're staying overnight before boarding the cable car, don't forget to pick up a Gastecarde from your hotel!
Wonderful experience. Great piped music and the wait was not long at all. With regular Cable cars.
Great place with a nice atmosphere and plenty to do. Just keep in mind that the children’s activities can feel a bit expensive compared to expectations.
The ticket is very expensive to go up with the cable car and you have to wait till the cart be full, we were with 35 person in same cart
Wonderful view on Grindelwald from up there in Pfingstegg! The view is worth it, you'll not regret the cablecar trip. Once up there, you can either do the fly-line, the toboggan (kind of bobsleigh) or hike back to Grindelwald (around 1h). The flyline costs 12.- per adult, takes about 5-10 minutes in total if no waiting. It's super chill, it's great to do it once, no more. It brings you back up after the "flight" The toboggan is super fun and costs only 6.- per adult. It also takes around 5-10 minutes if no waiting. It's more energetic and gives some great adrenalin, I recommend it! It also brings you back to the starting point after the ride. All in all, no need to stay more than a couple hours, maybe 3 if its crowded. But it's definitely worth coming here. Oh, and there are cute and talkative goats.
