The Clock Tower is a very impressive structure of Sighișoara. Highly worth get there (it’s not that hard) and take a nice and easy tour. You can also climb to the Tower (we didn’t). While we were visiting, they had already prepare for Halloween, and it was so beautiful.
There's a small museum scattered through each level of the tower as you make your way to top the panoramic viewing platform. The platform gives you an unimpeded 360° view of the city. There's not a lot other than that. As well as the fact that nothing is translated through the museum, making it much harder to take an interest in the few items available for viewing. Despite what the signs say, the cost is 20lei to enter. I was in and out in less than 30 min.
Student tickets for 5 lei is incredibly cheap, and the view was beautiful! Really neat seeing the clock mechanism and some historical artifacts on the way up. It got a bit tight in some places going up as people were also descending the same stairs, just watch your step.
The Clock Tower is one of the only fully-visitable towers of the citadel. It's staircase and floors have been transformed into a small museum that houses exhibits from the medieval history of Sighișoara. The clock itself is still functioning and the bell sounds every 15 minutes.
The castle district is huge and worth taking the time for long walks. Amazing views, buildings and architectural heritage. Spend af least a day here.
Very beautiful landmark. Walking alongside this beautiful tower is a sight to behold. You can go up to get a great view of the city for really cheap.
The day I visited the Clock Tower, the museum was closed. The architecture looked unique and stunning. Wherever you walked in the town, the tower was partially visible.
It is beautiful tower and overall medieval town with narrow streets and Dracula house as well as school, church and cemeteries uphill make a unique ambience

Probably the most beautiful evangelical church in Sighisoara. The church is situated on the top of the Citadel Hill, standing there from the IV century. Inside there are some impressive paintings, restored in 2004. It's one of the must see objectives from Sighisoara
This beautiful church was my favorite stop on a whirlwind tour of Romania. Yes, it is a long walk up the covered stairs. The admission to the church is inexpensive, and when we went, the man and woman working there were wonderful and friendly. We were treated to an excellent presentation on the church's history and the area. There is so much rich history and they were able to provide so many details.
The Church on the Hill is one of the largest Gothic churches in Transylvania and it's located on top of the highest hill in Sighișoara, at about 429 meters above sea level. The church can be visited for 15 RON (~€3) per person and the price includes a small printout that contains information about the church's history and most important exhibits that can be seen inside, including a small crypt.
Unfortunately, the church was not as interesting as we expected. Like some other churches we’ve visited, the renovations have erased much of its historical character, leaving it looking more like an amusement park than a heritage site. The ladies at the ticket counter, who also hand out printed information, were unable to tell us where the memorial to the German soldiers (located next to the church) was — we had to find it ourselves. Overall, it didn’t meet our expectations. And to be honest, if you’re short on time and don’t want to tackle a long climb through a tunnel with many stairs — which is quite demanding even for a fit person — I would not recommend it.
After you climb 170 stairs and get all hot, you can get inside and cool off😂 Inside it the temperature is lower than outside and feels nice. To get inside you pay a 10 Ron ticket. There are 2 persons responsible there, and they tell you stories about the paintings from the walls and legends related to it. Is very nice. You can also visit the crypt. There is an old coffin visible there. Worth a visit!
Well restored Lutheran Church (originally Western Christian / Catholic) with older medieval lower church serving as crypt. The personnel at the door was very helpful, an information sheet with several languages is available. Some frescos. Some of the wooden aktar panels (e.g St Martin) and the choir stools are quite beautiful. The acoustics is great (I was encouraged to sing from the altar...).
This was a beautiful gothic representation of the Saxon church. The surrounding are beautiful especially in the fall. The cemetery is just as interesting if not more so. I feel I spent more time walking through and enjoying the cemetery more than the church itself.
Well worth the climb up 176 steps. The church is magnificent inside, and visiting the crypt is just creepy enough to send shivers down your spine. The guy collecting the entrance fee was very friendly and told me a little about the church. It was used the the saxon (German) residents in the area, but most of them have moved away for some reason, so today this lovely building rarely sees a service.

Such a nice experience to go up the Covered Staircase (Scara Acoperită), a wooden structure with 175 steps, that leads to the Church on the Hill and the old cemetery.
One of the main sightseeing spots in Sighișoara Citadel. Carries a history going back to 17th century, when it was constructed to protect pupils from adverse weather and not allow them get in visual contact with the cemetery.
One of the most picturesque and unusual places in the Sighișoara citadel is the Wooden Stairs, also known as the Scholars’ Stairs. Built in the 17th century, these covered wooden steps were designed to help students reach the School on the Hill, especially during winter or bad weather. The atmosphere is truly special: the old, well-preserved wood makes you feel like you are stepping back in time. The climb, though it may seem challenging at first (over 170 steps), is an authentic experience that leads you to one of the most beautiful panoramic points in the city, right next to the Church on the Hill. For tourists, the Wooden Stairs are not just a practical pathway but also an attraction in their own right. They offer a glimpse into the medieval spirit of the citadel and into the daily life of its former inhabitants. The light filtering through the planks, the coolness of the wood, and the echo of footsteps on the stairs create a unique atmosphere. Tip: Take a few minutes to climb slowly, touch the wooden railings, and look back toward the citadel – you’ll be rewarded with a wonderful view. This is a must-see stop for anyone visiting Sighișoara. ⭐ My rating: 5/5 – A place full of history, charm, and medieval authenticity. And a place where you can take incredibile photos if you can wait for the perfect light!
For the first time I counted 175 steps, and after that just have discovered that there are 176 . Interesting way of the locals, for hundreds of years, to protect their children, on winter or rainy weather , on their way to school. And professors, too.
From what I understand the stairs and roof covering was built for the school children and possibly a dry walk up the hill during bad weather. The walk isn’t too difficult but depending on your physical condition. There are a few steps in need of repair so pay attention where you place your foot. The whole structure is wood so up keep is always an issue with woodworking. There is a Church at the top with a 10 lei entry fee. Also, a beautiful cemetery to explore and find secluded areas to relax.
The Covered Stairway is one of Sibiu's true hidden gems. This beautiful passage isn't just a way to get from the Upper to the Lower Town—it's a journey through history. Walking down the cobblestone steps under the arched stone roof, you can truly feel the centuries of history in the walls around you. It’s an incredibly atmospheric and photogenic spot, connecting you to the heart of Sibiu's medieval past. The stairway is a must-see for anyone exploring the city. It's a peaceful and picturesque escape from the main squares and offers a unique perspective on the city's layout and fortifications. It’s an essential part of the Sibiu experience!
Very nice but some steps need to be aligned. These stairs is actually a way to school, thus students need to climb every day up
It was an excellent experience. My Gf ran up all 175 stairs. There is no cost and a nice written history in 3 languages.

Great little craftsmanship's shop in Sighisoara! I hesitated to come to Sighișoara, but when I saw that they had this little shop, I decided to go and I was very glad to. They have all kinds of objects, all handmade in Romania (either in the region or in other places). The man is of course known for his handmade spoons (most of them for decoration, but we can use the white ones in the kitchen), but they also have a lot of other objects including wooden egg cups, little handmade houses of the region and other regions (for decoration), wooden money boxes (most of them in the shape of cute animals), little handmade houses to put a candle in it, pottery (plates, bowls, cups, ...), little decorated signs for the house keys, religious paintings, etc. During my trip in Romania, this is the shop where I spent the most money, because they are the ones who have the most beautiful handmade objects ;) Best shop in Sighisoara and for me also of Romania (although I only went to four places/cities). If you are in the region, make sure that you go there and don't forget to check the opening hours before (very important!).
An absolute gem of a store with works from a world renowned artist. They always have some fantastic hand made items and beautiful drawings and other objects. The shop is small but it has a large number of items without being crowded.
Fantastic shop in Sighişoara. Ceramics, wooden items, art. The craftsman was in the shop when we visited and was able to tell us about the items we purchased, which I love!
Amazingly well crafted sculptures and paintings from local craftsmen. The owner happily shares the tales of the gallery's origins in Romanian, English, German and Dutch. You're able to buy the displayed tools and art pieces to a good price. Very professional presentation and a secret tip for travelled!
We were so happy we walked into this shop! Different local artists have their wares, ceramics, and crafts on display and the merchant kindly offered information about the different art styles and motifs. Definitely go visit!
They should do something about the glass door at the entrance in the shop. This morning j bumped my head into it quite hard and i still have headaches.its 9 pm now. The girl at the counter inside the shop didnt even flinch to come and see if i was ok. She heard everything from inside but didnt say a word. What if the glass broke and i cut myself? What if another foreigner tourist would have harmed themselves in the door and would have made an official complaint about it? Or even sued the owner? I seriously damaged my wellbeing, due to the incompetence of the owner, staff for not marking that door. but i walked away instead. It should be marked with a caution advertisement, since its dangerous and future accidents may happen again
Most of the time when I see a souvenir shop (both in Romania and in Europe, too) I get an uneasy feeling of: brace yourself, kitsch is coming! Oh, but not here, not in this shop. The owner is a very talented craftsman, super passionate about Romanian traditional symbolism and this shop is an oasis of good taste Transylvanian crafts. You want a nice handmade item from Sighișoara? This is the place to get it.
A wonderful trip into Romania’s craftsmanship tradition! Marc, Raluca and Noemi are so knowledgeable and very welcoming. I’m looking forward to my next visit to Sighisoara. Pity my luggage can’t fit this time everything I wanted to buy from them! Thank you for making this special little corner available to us!

Surely touristic place. Having been for a weekend in Sighisoara couldn't have miss it. Reading so-so reviews didn't expect much from a good in the restaurant. But we were positively surprised. The goulash we ordered was very tasty. Definitely recommended. On the downside - "Dracula room" upstairs for an extra 15 lei/person is not worth it. Better not to go there, nothing to miss.
Delicious is a small word, incapable to express the taste, the flavour and the aspect of the dishes... And the cherry on top was that we could also bring our little wiener dog with us. And even better, the service was impecabile!
I’m a big fan of Vlad Țepeș so of course I had to come and eat at his house the food was delicious and I bought a souvenir pound of coffee I still don’t know if I’ll drink it.
very good service, delicious food, good flavors and a magical atmosphere of the time
Great food! Awesome location to visit! Worth the time. After vusuting many locations this was the obvious location to stop and eat. The beef snitzel and Hungarian potatoes was great, and the Dracula's kiss, and papanasi which it was two big like donut filled with cream, delicious!
Trip advisor says it shuts at 23:00, Google says that it shuts at 22:00, the sign on the entrance door says that it shuts at 22:00. I was very rudely refused service at 21:15. Hence, I did not spend any of my money here during my three nights in Sighisoara. I should have heeded the advice of the ‘Rough Guide to Romania’ which comments that the restaurant is, “tacky, and not particularly good”. I can add that it is also unfriendly and that the staff are rude and lack any customer service skills
The food was excellent, very authentic, and well-priced considering it was served in the most touristy location in the city. The server was attentive (compared to most servers in Romania) and I would have eaten there again, but I wanted to try as many different restaurants as possible. I would highly recommend the goulash (pictured in my pics) and the outdoor seating area, even though it’s not as scenic as in inside dining room. They have a bar inside as well as a souvenir area. The “room where Dracula was born” is one floor above the restaurant, and it’s a must-see if you’re in the city.
Good food and service. Supposably the birthed place of Vlad the impaler and surely his father's (Vlad Dracul) house. It has a nice upper floor prepared dracula style. Definitely a landmark in Sighisoara, and the fact that the food is good is a welcomed bonus.
I'll never travel to Sighisoara without this trip planner again
