Comillas is a town in Cantabria, northern Spain. Its Modernista architecture includes 19th-century El Capricho, a Gaudí-designed chalet. Nearby, elaborate, Neo-Gothic Sobrellano Palace has Gaudí furniture. In the old town center, Plaza Corro Campios is full of restaurants and bars. Comillas Beach is popular for its fine sand and water sports. To the west, Oyambre Natural Park has dunes, marshland and varied birdlife.

Absolutely stunning, I do not regret at all taking the guided tour, it was so worth it, the guide explained it so well that I thought I was watching a history movie about Gaudi!! I would even recommend ppl to come to Comillas to see this 💯
Having cycled into the town to visit the house we were disappointed to have to buy tickets for entry later in the day! Eventually once our time arrived the walk around this house was very rewarding and interesting. An app enabled access to a description of each room but I think given the popularity and diversity of people visiting the app could have been more interactive!
El Capricho de Gaudí was one of the most enchanting architectural experiences I’ve ever had. The moment you arrive, you can feel Gaudí’s creativity everywhere—bright colors, whimsical details, and a design that feels both playful and brilliant at the same time. Walking through the house and gardens feels like stepping into a dream. Every corner has something unique to admire, whether it’s the ceramic sunflowers, the curved lines, or the way the light fills each room. You can really sense Gaudí’s genius and imagination in every detail. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, making the visit even more enjoyable by sharing insights and fun facts that brought the space to life. It’s the kind of place that’s beautiful not just to see, but to explore and really experience. Overall, El Capricho de Gaudí is a must-visit for architecture lovers, art enthusiasts, or anyone who appreciates something truly unique. It’s charming, inspiring, and absolutely unforgettable.
Great to see one of Gaudi’s early works up close. We visited out of season at end of September so no queues and not too busy. I imagine that in high season it would be a bit more cramped and worthwhile planning a guided tour to make things easier.
If you are interested in architecture you will enjoy this place. If you are interested in Gaudí, you will enjoy this place. If you are not interested in architecture or Gaudí, you will still probably have a great time here. The free online interactive audioguide, accessible from your phone, makes the experience very instructive and worth the price of admission on top of the obvious beauty of the place. They have access slots, so be ready to wait or go for a walk in the village while you wait for yours.
El Capricho de Gaudí is a worthwhile museum visit. If you know Gaudí’s work, you will learn more about the start of his career. The house features many details that are copied in later buildings. I highly recommend buying tickets in advance to avoid the lines at the ticket window.
Beautiful house designed by Gaudi. Very interesting architecture and details all over. It's actually quite amazing they were able to restore it that well, based on what it looked like 30 years ago
Really incredible place with the beautiful sites and history Check those pictures and remember where they have been taken

The Sobrellano Palace in Comillas, Spain, is a stunning example of neo-Gothic and modernist architecture. Built in the late 19th century by architect Joan Martorell, the palace was commissioned by the Marquis of Comillas. Its intricate design, grand hallways, and ornate furnishings reflect the opulence of the era.
Absolutely breathtaking palace, gardens and views. You can visit inside however it has to be via 45 min guided tour (5€ or so), and it is only in Spanish. I'm level B2ish and got the jist of what he was saying but it would have been even better if there had been an English option. I didn't book in advance (Sept'24) and there was a tour starting shortly after I enquired. Very much enjoyed it and would recommend, even just to explore the free outdoor section.
We attented the Spanish tourguide to be able to enter the palace. Sparsely furnished but the quality of workmanship is outstanding. Don't pass it without a visit. 7 euro's/ 5 for retirees
Stunning neo gothic palace perfectly showing the wealth and the power the marquis of Comillas had reached. The best artists from Barcelona were employed on the team of architect Martorell; even young Gaudi produced some finely handmade piece of furnitures. The tour is in Spanish and the guide is outstanding. Absolutely great value.
Absolutely stunning building with so many unique features. The interior is amazing. So worth visiting. Very friendly and helpful staff in ticket booth. Don't miss the adjoining cathedral, built in the same style.
Definitely worth taking the tour, it lasted 45 minutes (in Spanish mind you, not sure if they do them in English as well) and gave lots of interesting information about the history of the palace, the Lopez family and how they got (bought) their dukedom. The palace is in amazing condition thanks to its sale to the Cantabrian government in the 80s.
The garden area is for free (you can observe from outside the palace and the church). The entrance in the palace/building can only be done with guided groups, which start every 45mins and cost 5eur/person. Waiting time for the next tour was too long on a summer weekend noon, therefore we skipped the entrance. Note: Although the El Capricho de Gaudi is next to the temple+palace, they are separated by a fence. You can not pass easily between them, only by doing a whole 10-minute walking loop.
vaguely located on the route of the camino de santiago perhaps more permanently located right next-door to the famous gaudi whim house which is otherwise hidden but accessible for free from the palaces gardens immediately to the left down the shaded hidden pathway as you're facing the palace this is perhaps the best view of the gaudi home. the palacio perhaps better seen from the outside (echo to other comments) as entry to the garden area is free and inside visible through the windows, since tour reservations are necessary and only offered in español

Único, hermoso y misterioso. I didn't plan on visiting this place but I saw the guardian angel as I was walking through Comillas and of course I was curious to have a look. It's definitely worth it- very interesting and a stunning place, lots of history too. The angel was made by Josep Llimona, a Catalan Sculptor in 1895.
Worth to visit. Good free parking and viewpoint nearby
Great place I came from Algeria to see it
I do love a good cemetery especially one with half open tombs. The ruins and that horrific angel make it quite an experience
(Translated by Google) A unique place with spectacular views of the sea. If you're visiting Comillas, it's essential to come and see the cemetery, as it's completely different from other sites. Set back from the center, it overlooks the sea and offers tranquil and meditative views. The crosses, steles, and stone chapels feature decorative elements that tell personal stories and local traditions. Walking along the paths allows one to appreciate not only the respect shown for the deceased, but also the aesthetic sensibility of the designers. It is a secluded place, far from the hustle and bustle of tourism. We were absolutely delighted with our stay here. From the moment we drove through the gate it was clear thatvthe hotel was immaculate. A lovely welcome from reception, everywhere spotlessly clean and tidy. Our bedroom was on the ground floor so didn't have a view but it was spacious, with high quality bed linen and a really great en suite shower and WC. Super breakfast the next day and helpful friendly staff. We will definitely stay again. And highly recommend. Ideal to stay before catching a ferry too.
Great hotel. Good value for money. Near to El Capricho and Sobrellano Palace and close to city center. Very good breakfast, helpful staff. I recommend it.
It's decent place. Nice breakfast. Dinner just was not an option for us. A bit of a walk to the main part of town. Nice grounds.
Fairly basic accommodations just towards on the end of town on the Camino. Close to the Palacio and Gaudi’s Capricho. Servicable on every level but definitely not a destination. The combined reception/bar was a bit odd. Also, the lack of umbrellas by the pool made it somewhat uninviting. However, kudos for the functional air conditioning!
Warm and friendly welcome. Great location for an evening walk to the beach. Fridge in room. Breakfast was plentiful.
The hotel is within walking distance of the main attractions and downtown. However, the hotel is basic in services, and the pool area needs umbrellas.
Maybe because the weather wasn't great. It still didn't feel like a hotel! The service was good though.
Very good traditional hotel in a very beautiful town with many interesting historical spots🌼🤓🍭

Wow! Highly recommend going inside. You have to loiter around the tourist information office until the next tour begins (every 30 mins or so) and a tour guide arrives to take payments - €3-5 for the guided tour in Spanish, lasting 45 mins. You can only enter via a guided tour. Whilst it's a shame there is no tour in English, you are provided with a leaflet in English outlining the key facts. I speak Spanish B2ish level and was able to understand the majority of what was said. Not only the views but the inside of the university and church are absolutely breathtaking, thank goodness for all the restoration work done to this place.
A very intricate and beautiful building surrounded by breathtaking views of Comillas, mountains in the distance, fields and the sea. There is good street parking located in the general area. There's a gentle winding walk up with trees on both sides.
Very beautiful interiors and a very kind guide. We had tickets to Sobrellano Palace at a very short notice and he called on his own initiative to wait for us. I have never seen anything like this before 🤩🥰
(Translated by Google) The Seminario Pontificio in Comillas is without a doubt one of the most impressive buildings in the region. From afar you can see the imposing structure towering above the landscape. The driveway to the seminary is an experience in itself: wide, stately and with a beautiful view of the coast and the surrounding area. The drive up alone is worth it – although it does cost 2 euros to drive up by car. That amount seems symbolic, but you have to know it. Once at the top, you are face to face with a colossus of a building, with an intriguing mix of neo-Gothic and modernist architecture. It raises questions. Is it still used as a seminary? Is it partly a museum? Or is it largely empty? Unfortunately, little is clear about that. There is little to no information to be found upon arrival, which only increases the sense of mystery. Nevertheless, the visit is worth it. You walk around in an almost cinematic setting. The silence, the view over Comillas and the sea, and the architecture make it a special place. It evokes wonder – and a little frustration about the lack of explanation. But perhaps that is part of the charm of the Seminario Pontificio. Daarover is helaas weinig duidelijk.

It's truly beautiful, not just the university itself, but everything surrounding it. The gardens, the gate, the path, the view of the ocean 🌊, everything. I have to say it's one of the few things we loved about the area. If you go, stopping by here is a must, essential. Totally recommended 🤌🏻. Totalmente recomendable 🤌🏻.
(Translated by Google) Simply beautiful. It's one of the buildings, if not the building, that has caught my attention the most of all those I've seen throughout my life. Both the facade and the interior, all the carefully crafted details, and the history of the place make this a must-see. Not to mention the location itself seems like something out of a dream. The walk up is simply beautiful, and the views from the entrance to the top of the hill and the sight of such architecture are simply stunning. The interior of the center has details you've definitely never seen before. Like the upper staircase, made of wood and very detailed, or the conference area, the church itself, or the inner courtyard. The guide was very professional, very good at explaining things, and very friendly. (Original) Simplemente hermoso.

(Translated by Google) The Capilla-Panteón of the Marqueses de Comillas (also called Capilla-Panteón de Sobrellano) is an impressive jewel of neo-Gothic architecture and modernist art, located next to the Palacio de Sobrellano in Comillas. It was designed by Joan Martorell around 1878 and inaugurated on 28 August 1881, during the visit of King Alfonso XII and Queen María Cristina . Although the chapel has recently been closed to the public, which is disappointing, it is still worth writing a positive review about its rich artistic history. The building was originally built as a “cathedral in miniature” with a girola (ambulatory) around the altar. Inside, there is a lavish collection of funerary sculptures: the marble sculptures Plegaria and Resignación by José Llimona, an impressive statue of Christ by Agapito Vallmitjana and reliefs by Venancio Vallmitjana, which recall the greatness of the López family. The interior is richly decorated: the altar and bronze pulpit were made by Francisco Paula Isaura and Fragas, the colourful stained glass windows come from the studio of Eudald Ramon Amigó, and the furniture, such as benches and kneelers, is by Antoní Gaudí. The combination of medieval flow, modern art and luxurious craftsmanship creates a harmonious atmosphere of understated grandeur. The neo-Gothic façade, with its slender spire and finely sculpted wooden doors, offers a stately vestibule. Inside, soft lighting from the stained glass windows leads the visitor to a meditative calm. The balance between monumental funerary building and homely chapel is remarkably subtle. If you ever get the chance to visit the chapel, prepare yourself for an experience of: Monumental architecture in neo-Gothic style, set up as a mini-cathedral Exceptional collection of sculpture, modernist and emotionally charged Artisan furniture and stained glass, with works by Gaudí and his contemporaries Historical baggage, connected to Spain's monarchy and the Indianos of Comillas In short: the Capilla-Panteón is a must for lovers of historical art, modern sculpture and religious architecture. Even when closed, the building radiates its power, beauty and story—you can almost feel the echo of rituals and the memory of the Marquesas.
