Tafi del Valle

Tafí del Valle is a town in the Calchaquí Valleys area of northwest Argentina. It's surrounded by high, trail-lined mountains like Matadero, Muñoz and Pabellón. In town, the 18th-century Jesuit La Banda Chapel houses a museum with religious art and cultural relics. Tafí River flows south, into huge La Angostura Dam. Nearby, Los Menhires archaeological reserve has ancient stone statues with carved designs.

It's alright. There isn't much else to see around so you might as well check it out. I got a nice guide who was very knowledgeable who made the small tour around these ancient carved rocks sound quite interesting.
Interesting place but missing clear explanations of the significance of each object on the property.
A lovely site and interesting information sheet but it's in the centre of town which I think disturbs the peace of it all a little.
kind of a cool place to spend an hour. especially if weather is bad and nothing else to do.
Nice view great location good view

Best empanadas I had in Argentina for a very good price. Very nice building and really traditional atmosphere
A lovely little museum, covering both pre-Colombian and colonial inhabitants of the region, and the influence of the Jesuits.
Worth a stop to learn with a guided tour. Very awesome history! The tour guide was a little cranky but it was still worth it.
Great little museum tucked away with pre-columbian pottery, Jesuit artefacts and lovely guide! Worth a detour…
(Translated by Google) The visit to the Jesuit Museum was a truly enriching experience. The guide's explanation was excellent: clear, interesting, and very passionate in her storytelling, which made everything come alive. The museum perfectly combines history with the use of modern technology. I was pleasantly surprised by the way the stories were told, the sound effects, and even the talking paintings, which made the visit much more dynamic and engaging. An educational, interactive, and very well-curated experience! Highly recommended.
(Translated by Google) The museum is very well organized. The guide tells you a bit about the history, but there are also recreations of the era, showing everyday family life and how Sarmiento's favorite cheeses were made. It's fun and educational. Admission is 3,000 pesos per person. Both adults and children can enjoy it. (Translated by Google) Magnificent and unforgettable place! 🌵🇦🇷 Being able to take photos with some llamas from the place was the most beautiful thing for me...🥰 The weather at the top changes suddenly and the 3100 meters above sea level makes itself felt. I would still come back! If they fixed the route it would be spectacular, since there are parts that are quite deteriorated.

(Translated by Google) We went with a friend in November 2023. It was beautiful to get here, passing through the Yungas region of Tucumán with the Monument to the Indian on the way, and then continuing to El Mollar, Tafi del Valle, and climbing to Abra del Infiernillo. It's absolutely beautiful, and each landscape is different and unique. We were told that the weather is unpredictable, which is why it's called "Abra del Infiernillo" (Gates of Hell). Located at 3,042 meters above sea level, it's a place full of history and beautiful landscapes.

We loved riding horses on their massive property. Accompanied by two dogs, no less. Very attentive service. Rustic but well-thought out decor. A quiet respite, passable for English speakers, but not wonderful in that regard. We enjoyed our stay!
Rooms were a little tired...ripped holes in curtain lining but beautiful lication. Food was disappointing.
The place is fantastic. We had the opportunity to watch the cows being milked and everyone was very helpful and welcoming. The room is beautiful, comfortable and beautifully decorated with the theme of the property. We don't want to leave.
Very nice estancia that's been in the same family since 1779. Rooms are very nice food is great and hospitality is genuine. Highly recommended.
Authentic place, excellent empanadas in the bar! Free cheese making tour. Don't miss it.
What a wonderful place where you can only find peace and friendliness 😀!

(Translated by Google) The trail does not have much signage but you can reach the top along several paths marked by previous hikers. The view is beautiful but you have to bring water and something to eat. It is better to climb lightly because there are very complex portions of the path. The trail, despite how it is advertised, requires a medium/high level of physical fitness or several breaks to complete it. Stunning view of the whole town, La Angostura dam, metal roofs and is a medium intensity climb. It is worth no doubt

(Translated by Google) Very nice viewpoint of the entire area. It is accessed from Tafi by pedestrian. You can also go up to the beginning of the trail by car. The first part is well marked and further up several paths open up. It is relatively short but on a steep climb. It would have taken me an hour or less round trip. Recomendable
(Translated by Google) Beautiful view, ideal to go with someone. However, you must be prepared to bring water, especially on hot days. Personally, telling from my experience, it is very tiring to get to the cross but it is very nice once you do it.
(Translated by Google) The trail is free and open to the public. It can be done with the family as long as everyone has good mobility and a desire to climb a steep path over rocks. In some places, it's marked; in others, you must follow the paths made by visitors' footprints. It takes approximately 30 meters to reach the summit where the cross is located. You'll be able to see spectacular views and take a moment to admire them. From there, you can also connect with the El Pelao mountain pass. Be careful when descending. There are sections with small stones or sand that can cause you to slip. You can leave your car at a bar/restaurant. The staff are very friendly and attentive. It wouldn't be a bad idea to grab a drink on the way down at #LomaPoint.
