Soaring 6,273-foot mountain with an arduous street biking trail made famous in the Tour de France.

Iconic mountain in southern France, featured often in Tour de France. Summit finish with 360 degree views. There is a cafe stop near the top. Two routes are popular fir cyclists. Depending on the season, check to make sure they are open as they can be closed for snow.
Stunning place to cycle to and be apart of history. Of course you can enjoy the views from the top not only bike bike but be respectful for the riders to your journey to the top
Spectacular Provence 🇨🇵 giant. Respect for all the bicycle 🚲 heroes ( not the electric 💡 ones) 🫶🏼🙏🏼😎🙂😁
One of the visual landmarks that watch over Provence. For cycling enthusiasts, climbing to the top is a once-in-a-lifetime goal. For those with sporty inclinations, the ascent can be approached both on foot (there are marked routes) and by bicycle. This time, we went up by car starting from Malaucenne. Numerous cyclists on the road, of all ages, to whom drivers must be cautious and offer them the necessary courtesy in traffic. I was impressed by several mountain running enthusiasts I met along the way. The scenery is superb, especially in the alpine hollow area, where the view is absolutely gorgeous at 360 degrees. Pay attention to the weather because, at the top, weather conditions can change radically in a few minutes. Even though it was hot down in the valley (34-36 C), up on the peak, it was only 20-21, and the cold wind was blowing hard. Have a jacket ready, too. Don't forget your supplies as upstairs there is only a souvenir shop and a small bar with a relatively limited offer. Even if you only have one day to visit Provence, if the weather is excellent and the sky is clear, I recommend starting the day with the ascent of Mont Ventoux and then checking off a few other unmissable places: Gordes, Roussilo on, Abbaye de Sennanque, Chateaxuneuf du Pape , Avignon.
You can’t help but feel it’s a cyclists mountain and large amounts of guilt plus ‘hats off’ to all cyclists who make it to the top. Don’t forget a nod to Tom Simpson’s monument near the top. Do read ‘Put me back on my bike’ by William Fotheringhay about his life.
Epic!!! Great climb. The best. Did all three sides. Bedoin Sault Malauscene. Awesome downhills too.
Wow! Busier than expected as there in Mid September, but the weather was good, so maybe not surprising.
Nice mountain worth a visit if you’re in the area. There is a cycle path going up ,which is included in the tour de france, as well as a road. The mountain provides excellent views throughout south east france.

We really enjoyed our walk around these ruins. Its quite amazing how some of the mosaic floors have been restored for you to see and appreciate the history. When you go to the museum there is a notpad in English so you can read about what you are seeing. Some incredibly well preserved artifacts. Then we walked to the Amphitheatre. Wow! To see this still standing albeit with some help is truly amazing. There was another area you could view and walk round outside the main site across the road which we visited but this was an anti-climax after what we had already seen. It needs alot of work tidying it up and bringing it up to the same standard as the original site, We walked through the town which was very pretty down to the Roman bridge. Well worth the walk to appreciate how cleaver these Romans really were!!
Strolling through the market today, followed by exploring the very spot where ancient Romans once traded their goods, was a truly unique experience. You can still feel the presence of history as you walk through the village, with a palpable sense of the past lingering in the air. I removed a star because of the fact that we had to pay to see it from a closer look.
An amazing trip into our past, showing the Gallo Romans using Ikea-style kitting methodology, and a Roman emperor Hadrian as a nude Hellenic hero (and his wife fully dressed) #hetoo ;-)
What a fabulous town with history everyone.
One of the best preserved Roman cities I have seen in my travels around Europe. There is also a small museum in which the layout of one of the houses found is very well explained. To go around the whole place (it is divided in two with two separate entrances) you will need at least two hours.
This was an excellent tour. My guide, Romain from guides de Provence was knowledgeable and interesting. I highly recommend using a guide from Guides de Provence for this site. It really is a Gallo Roman Pompeii and it is too complex and historic to use the earphones.
I’m disappointed that no one mentioned in these reviews that the audiotours are not available, due to sanitary reasons. And there is not a lot of other information, no booklets. A Qr-code didn’t work. There is a leaflet with basically just a map with a lot of Numbers. In the small museum on the site all the signs are in French, nothing in English. I don’t recommend going there this year, a waste of 9 euro’s.
We appreciated this Roman ruins for the rather natural environment that has been kept by this local community and the French cultural effort to be genuine with historical features that remain..Vaison-La-Romaine is a special location to visit for a variety of good reasons..we really enjoyed our afternoon here…

Great roman village, you can walk around, especially in the old city. Climbing all the way up (easy walk) will give you a 360 view over the village and surroundings. Would recommend walking around the village as well on the small roads. You'll get another nice perspective ;)
Lovely spot and paddling in the river is a treat on a hot day!
The setting of the bridge, how it connects the medieval city to the rest of the city looks just great. It is quite cool to see how people take a bath in the river below.
It is very interesting place with a steep climb.Inside the church there are many beautiful and coloured stained glass windows.
Visiting this bridge evokes the catastrophic floods of 1992 which killed dozens. The flood water rose higher than the bridge.
Very cool place, bridge is amazing and river is fun to splash in. Several historic era's represented, and the ubiquitous shopping in the centre-ville.
Ancient roman Bridge on top with cobble stones. The bridge is still in use. You can cross it even by car. As from here you can walk to the old town and his castle.
Amazing light, great atmosphere, lovely food and relaxed. Slightly too many mosquitos though

On Tuesdays they turn the centre of Vaison into a street market. Go early because it draws people from all the surrounding villages.
Nienke provided a lot of useful information about Vaison-la-Romaine and the region. Very clear and helpful. Thank you!
Very helpful with maps and overview of history. Lots of good resources. Would highly recommend!!
Great support in finding a vacation rental. The vacation rental in Seguret was wonderful: great location, great amenities (whirlpool, pool, grill, quiet, plenty of space). The landscape is beautiful, lots of nature, and great wine. We'd love to come back.
If you are in Vaison la Romaine stop in. Lots of information about the area and local attractions as well as a very good selection of souvenirs and local products for sale.
Super helpful folks, full of ideas on how best to explore the area!
Plenty of information on places of interest to visit. The staff are friendly and efficient.
Good service and ability to guide you on your vacation. Don't worry they speak fluent English :)

(Translated by Google) When you come back, no more, it's gray and not very decorated, but what a surprise! enter enter, go around carefully and go through the door on the left, I wasn't expecting what a beauty! look at my photos 💞 (Original) en rentrant bof sans plus c est gris peu décoré, mais quelle surprise ! entrer entrer faites bien le tour et passez par là porte à gauche , je ne m y attendais pas quelle beauté ! regardez mes photos 💞
(Translated by Google) Superb Cathedral with a very beautiful cloister. We were lucky enough to attend an organ concert, what a sound. The visit is free and to do. (Original) Superbe Cathédrale avec un très beau cloitre. Nous avons eu la chance d'assister à un concert d'orgues, quel son. La visite est libre et à faire.
(Translated by Google) Superb but the tourist season is starting and the visit has become chargeable due to the restoration of the place. I understand it completely but an appeal for donations at the entrance would be more appropriate in order to allow access to prayer for the most deprived!
(Translated by Google) The place is nice, we went there for a choir concert. Organization not great, free entry but quickly no more space and many people accumulate at the entrance despite having arrived 15 minutes in advance. Otherwise nothing to complain about!

(Translated by Google) We couldn't get in because a sign said: "Reserved for prayer." It was a shame because we saw that there was no one inside!
