Lago di Caldaro (Kalterer See) is a picturesque lake in South Tyrol, northern Italy, known for its mild climate and scenic beauty. It is the warmest alpine lake in the region, making it a popular destination for swimming, sailing, and windsurfing. Surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills, the lake offers breathtaking views, especially in spring and summer. The area is also famous for its wine production, particularly the Kalterersee wine, and features charming walking and cycling trails. It’s a perfect spot for relaxation, outdoor activities, and enjoying nature.
I walked 4 miles around the lake and barely saw one blue pixel of it. Most of the path is far from the coastline and the latter is fully exploited by private properties like hotels and camping parks. So you have to pay to stay if you want to actually see the lake. The pics included give you an idea of how much of the lake you can see from the walking path. The local administration should be less greedy and open part of the coastline to others than just hotel guests.
Very lovely lake , beautiful, warm full with sea-bicycles, you can hire them with friends. If you stay in Bolzano or nearby you should visit this lake in Summer time . Super easy to get there #130 bus goes to Villiage in 20 minutes and from Village then u’ll change another bus in 7 min ull get bus stop and Then u walk 6 minutes. Don’t worry about bus time tables its always written in Italy on every bus stop and it goes very often till the late time .
The lake is only open to hotel guests. If you don't have a room here, honestly, don't bother. Like others have said, the path is far from the lake and all lakeside spaces seem to be privatised that require payment to enter. If you are looking for a simple walk/hike around a beautiful lake, for something close to here, I really recommend Lago di Tovel
Great place for a casual bath or windsurfing. Plenty of activities both in summer and winter. The lake is surrounded by a lovely environment that grants an even more enjoyable staying!
Nice lake, to enjoy one day , have a walk , relax in the gardens , swim and enjoy a nice Italian aperitif at the Gretl Am See bar/restaurant..you can rent a pedalò too
The warmest lake in Italy. Beautiful views. You can use waterbicycle (10€/hour). Swimming without bicycle is not possible. For relax and laying is beautiful green grass. Parking 6€/day.
Best for swimming and the amazing views.

Cool adventure. Get to see the city of Bozen and the lake Kalterer from high above. It cost 10 euros but with Tirol pass is free. The city on top looks creepy and not to inhabited.
Amazing attraction. A must go to. Good supply of drinks and food at the restaurant at the upper terminal of the cable car.
Wonderful place with a beautiful view.
Disappointed :((((( we were not allowed to ride bc we had our dog with us. She's knee high and they said only very small dogs are allowed, the other one's only with muzzles. Our dog behaves great, she's been with us everywhere, knows all kind of strange human vacation stuff..so I knew she would be ok. Besides, where shall I get a muzzle in that small village?? So, rules are rules - "No Mendelbahn for you !" (who knows, knows😉)
Keep your eye out for goats on the journey!
we wanted to take the mendelbahn in Kaltern. We were with 4 people and 2 middle sized dogs (englisch springer spaniel). On the info panel next to the ticket machine, there is a poster that informed us that dogs under 50cm high and 70cm long could go in the train for free. So we didn't pay a ticket for them. So when the driver arrived he wasn't very friendly and told us the dogs had to wear muzzles although they were already wearing them. Then he wouldn't take the dogs up without a ticket because he claimed they were bigger then 50cm high and 70cm long, when we asked him for a rule to measure them he said he didn't had one. Then we decided not to take the mendelbahn at all and he gave our money back. It's quite disappointing that the drivers aren't able to apply the rules that are given. A driver that talks to us unfriendly with his sunglases on, although there was no sun, isn't polite either. Please inform your staff about this.
You take the funicular up to the top station. You can take a look around the village at the mountain top .
Must try experience for everyone!

Very small bet interesting got in with our Bolzano card. Was great to go outside and taste all the different grapes from the vines.
Great stop on the EuroBike tour just off the main route. The info is in Italian and German but if you ask they will give you an English printout. Unfussy local museum, very friendly with some amazing exhibits. Well worth a look.
Must go list! Wonderful museum
(Translated by Google) An interesting wine museum in the municipality of Caldaro, right on the Wine Road. The museum displays the history and traditions of wine production, using specific equipment, such as tools for pruning, harvesting, transporting, and grinding grapes, pressing pomace, and everything else needed for preservation. From a modern perspective, these tools are simply amusing and therefore fascinating to see. There are sections displaying wine containers from various historical periods, starting from Ancient Rome, when barrels didn't yet exist, but rather wineskins or jars. We find barrels with extremely high capacities, holding thousands of hectoliters, and a descriptive sign states that the largest barrel ever is on display in a cellar in Heidelberg, Germany. A trip down memory lane reveals that I saw this barrel way back in 1986 on my honeymoon. Very interesting; sometimes things just click. There are also other areas, such as one displaying the containers where wine or grappa was served to guests throughout the ages. There's also a section where they offer tastings of the prized local wine. It's actually quite good. Another interesting feature of the museum is a vineyard display with rows of vines growing various grape varieties: each row is labeled with the name of the grape and the wine it's made from. The garden is perched on a promontory and offers a spectacular view of the entire Adige Valley, at least the upper part, all the way to Bolzano. In conclusion, a visit to this museum, in my opinion, is not to be missed.
(Translated by Google) Very interesting.👍👍👍 You will learn a lot about wine production. Who and how contributed to the success. How it was calibrated and other interesting information. 😁😊 It's just a shame "the dry exercise"🙃 (Original) Sehr interessant.👍👍👍 Du erfährst viel über die Wein-Herstellung. (Translated by Google) A well-curated and well-structured museum. A nice place to stop and visit if you want a quiet visit during your stroll downtown. We thought they'd let us taste some wines as well, but the visit is private and there's no tasting included. (Original) Museo curato e ben strutturato. Carino da fermarsi a visitare, se volete fare una visita tranquilla durante la vostra passeggiata in centro. We were here in September and were able to taste about 20 different grape varieties straight from the vine in the garden. The highlight is the Strawberry Muscat grape. Note: Only open until 2:30 p.m.! (Original) Sehr schönes, kleines Weinmuseum. Hier erfährt man, wie mühsam früher die Herstellung des guten Tropfens war. The Pinot Noir was a game changer. Utterly delicious and classy red wines. Lovely experience with a fascinating history. The tasting was a lovely experience.
Amazing view, good wine and super friendly people. Buy a bottle, get a wine glass and enjoy the view
Nice wine and the tasting staff seemed friendly. We just dropped by on a road tour so didn’t know or have a chance to book a tour. From an experience perspective this was a dud. Maybe for the guests that know to plan ahead it would be better.
Except for high society atmosphere, lack of attention for awaiting customers and posh vibe, I can't really say anything about the wine taste or their quality. We waited for over 10 minutes and left. Good location, though.
The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Really enjoyed our visit.
Favorite winery in all of Südtirol! Great wines, super nice staff and amazing architecture :)
Friendly persons, nice place... But if you must load there with the lorry, to small place.
Excellent red wine but a bit pricey

Great place for a half day out with your family. Very nice climbing paths for any level and very well maintained. We had lot of fun with our kid who loved it. Lot of space to explore and play also for little ones. You can bring your snack/lunch or take something at the tennis bar opposite the adventure park. Don't miss it if you like this kind of things. Enjoy!
Excellent place to have fun with the kids Be sure to prepare cash cause they don’t take credit cards
Plenty of parking. People working at the park are very kind and professional. Had a nice day. Suggest to take lunch with you so that you can stay a little bit longer (there are picnic tables)
Super fun location just off the road in a beautiful section of forest. Ropes course that welcomes all levels from beginner to advanced. Fun and safe.
Great park with kind and professional service. Many routes for all ages. We enjoyed it very much
Really amazing. Easy to hard tracks, climbs, high tree walks.
Fun parc for small and big. Great customer service
Amazing park with tracks for all levels
