Best thing to do on Oshima is to walk up Mihara and experience the beautiful views it has to offer. Just don't forget that it is quite windy up there. If you get here by the large passenger ferry in 6:00 you can take the bus that will take you to Mihara Onsen hotel. From there you can walk up the mountain and then go back the other way. The buses are quite infrequent but you can walk down to Motomachi down the road if you want. It just takes 2 hours and it's better then waiting for the bus if you miss it.
Nice walk, relax time on this volcano.
(Translated by Google) There are no dangerous spots on the mountain, and as long as you pay attention to the weather, you can wear sneakers and jeans without any problems. The Ura-desert course is recognized by the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan as Japan's only desert, and is well worth a visit. It might be a good idea to climb it while sightseeing on Oshima. The high-speed boat bound for Oshima will arrive at Motomachi Port or Okada Port, and you will decide on the day whether to arrive (the same goes for the return trip). (Translated by Google) Izu Oshima - Mt. Mihara Hike — A trekking experience that showcases the power of a volcano and breathtaking views For my first hike on Oshima, I chose Mt. Mihara. While the hike to the summit is relatively easy, taking about 40 minutes one way, the majestic scenery makes you wonder, "Is it really possible to do it in 40 minutes?" A volcanic landscape Along the way, you can see the lava that flowed during the volcanic eruption and then cooled and solidified. It's a thrilling experience, unlike any other hike, as you truly realize how the island was shaped by the power of nature. The final sprint is challenging! The slope becomes particularly steep from the 300m remaining sign, and the final slope is quite a challenge. You'll be out of breath, but once you overcome it... The reward at the summit Once you reach the summit, a breathtaking view and a sense of accomplishment await. The panoramic view of the ocean and island is truly a special treat you can only experience here. Summary ・An easy climb in about 40 minutes, with the impressive scenery you can only get from a volcano ・The unique experience of walking on lava rock ・A breathtaking view and sense of accomplishment await after the final 300 meters of steep climbing This is a mountain that anyone visiting Oshima should definitely try. Climbing it with a partner or friends will create unforgettable memories, allowing you to share the sense of accomplishment together.

It seemed like the crater was calmer than it was 10 years ago. 10 years ago, we came here in the fog because a typhoon was coming, but when the weather got better and the fog cleared, the scenery was like hell. Steam was coming out from everywhere on the barren plateau. It had an impact😁 It's calm now. (Translated by Google) I had always wanted to go and see Oshima as seen from Ito, and I was able to do so. It was April 15th, so most of the camellia flowers had fallen, which was a shame. The park was huge. The zoo is free and there are very few animals. You can walk for a long time It was a large eucalyptus tree, which left an impression on me. Personally, this was my first time seeing a camel, and I was impressed by how impressive it was. There were also about 5 giant tortoises, which were very impressive. I also saw a deer-like muntjac for the first time here. On the way back, I witnessed a wild viper (?) going into the bushes. It felt like a zoo in nature. By the way, it seems that you cannot currently buy animal food at the store, so if you want to feed the animals, you will need to bring your own. There are no restaurants or other shops within the park. There is a store with only vending machines just outside the zoo. You can buy sweets and ice cream. I was surprised to see such a large turtle, but what surprised me the most was being able to see a white-tailed eagle in person. The white-tailed eagle is used as the unit mark of the Air Self-Defense Force, so it was great to see the real thing. If I had been able to experience feeding them, I might have spent a considerable amount of money. It was worth going to Oshima🙇 (Original)

There are no consumer items, so it's hard to imagine where the operating funds come from. However, the zoo is sponsored by Takara, so it is probably a completely public welfare undertaking. The zoo is not big, but there are many species, and the red pandas are super cute! After collecting 5 stamps, you can go to the park information office to get magnet stickers. There are also additional badges available. There are also some small animals at the information desk, so don’t leave in a hurry after receiving your souvenirs. The botanical garden should be visited in season. During the Golden Week in May, it is basically all green and there are no flowers to see. Fortunately, you can see specimens in the exhibition hall. The toon flower specimens in the exhibition hall can be said to be quite exquisite, and the variety is really eye-opening. The overall scenery is good and it is worth a special trip. However, there are not many buses. It takes about an hour to slowly visit the zoo and collect the badge. Feed is only sold at the shop just before the zoo, so it's a good idea to buy a little extra before you go. Even if you decide you want to feed more later, the road back can be quite difficult and bumpy. There are fewer animals than in Ueno or Tama, but there are also not many tourists, and the zoo is well-maintained and pleasant. This is one of the most recommended spots on Oshima. Note: When I went back after a long time, feeding the animals was prohibited. If you visit Oshima, you should definitely visit Ura-Sabaku. I was fortunate to experience it on a clear, windless day, when I got to experience complete silence, interrupted only by the occasional airplane flying over me. The black basalt makes the scenery look barren and harsh, but it is also strangely beautiful. The volcanic desert, covered in black cooled lava rocks, is not a typical desert, but it is no less awe-inspiring.
A place like on another planet. In good weather Fuji-San can be seen. Windy, bring warm clothes.
The Urasabaku Desert, nestled on Izu Oshima Island, is a captivating natural phenomenon. Its black volcanic sand stretches out like an otherworldly canvas, evoking a sense of lunar exploration. The panoramic view from the top is awe-inspiring, rewarding hikers with a glimpse of the island’s rugged beauty. Be mindful of the sand’s slippery texture as you ascend. A visit to the Urasabaku Desert is an absolute must for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers!” 🌵🌕 For more detailed information, you can explore reviews on Tripadvisor or discover additional experiences on LIVE JAPAN. 🗺️🇯🇵
It’s a cool place to visit but be careful when traveling alone. You can easily get lost going back to the entrance. There are no trails nor pointers so be careful. I got lost going back ~~; and my phone was dead. It was a tense and stressful time 😂 Luckily, I found my friend then both of us got lost and walked in circles before we found the entrance 😂 Clearly, our lives have no sense of direction. It’s cool riding with ATV. Please don’t enter your car in the desert. It’s prohibited and there’s a big chance you’ll get stuck in the sand BUT we saw 2 cars entered and one of them was a taxi. They had ordinary tires (or maybe not ~~;) Maybe they lived there and they know a route you can enter with a car BUT please don’t do it.
Just saw it from the top of the volcano. Looks incredible already

Wonderful garden and owner is really nice to talk about breeding history of camellias.
Incredible views!!! Such a beautiful garden and bunnies are a life changing experience.
nice and friendly owner. however, definitely not worth those 830¥ unless you have a serious obsession with bunnies. I've seen gardens for less money but thousand times better than this.
800 yen to see 2 squirrels some trees and spiders. they dis have gocarts, though.
Great view of the ocean, beautiful garden, and the bunnies!! Would pay 800 yen any day.
It was small but beautiful garden.
(Translated by Google) I read that it had early-blooming camellias, so I visited here during my New Year's trip. However, given the season, I asked the receptionist if it was still early for the camellias to bloom, and she gave me detailed information about how to get around the park, how many early-blooming camellias can be seen under the lawn area, and important points about the scenery. We had a fulfilling and enjoyable time. I'm currently looking forward to selecting camellias that bloom in the summer. Another interesting thing about the rabbit garden was that they told us, ``There's a clever little boy named Boa, who climbs over the fence and comes first to get the food.'' While I was buying it, I saw a rabbit running quickly over the fence, which was really cute. It was also my first time interacting with a rabbit. thank you very much.
