It’s so gorgeous. The best views of my life. Luckiest guy to come in such a good weather, no single cloud. Also not many tourists as it’s usual in kind of touristic places
Visiting Cabo da Roca was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my trip to Portugal. Known as the westernmost point of continental Europe, it offers breathtaking views that make you feel like you are standing at the edge of the world. The combination of dramatic cliffs, the endless stretch of the Atlantic Ocean, and the fresh sea breeze creates a magical atmosphere that is both calming and awe-inspiring. The drive to the cape is scenic, and once you arrive, the view is absolutely worth it. The lighthouse adds a charming touch to the landscape, and the monument that marks the location makes for a perfect photo spot. On a clear day, the horizon seems endless, and the crashing waves below remind you of the raw power of nature. I especially loved the walking trails around the area – they give you the chance to explore the coastline from different perspectives. It can get windy, so carrying a light jacket is a good idea. The sense of peace and vastness you feel here is hard to put into words. Overall, Cabo da Roca is a must-visit for anyone exploring Portugal – a place where nature, history, and beauty meet perfectly.
The most satisfying part of the trip is visiting the westernmost point of Europe, Cabo da Roca. I can hear the wind blowing strongly towards the ocean, huge tide waves blowing the great cliffs, and the horizon is clearly visible, but untouchable. The power of nature spells out extremely powerful forces that can strike me to stunning and silent through minds.
Cabo da roca is absolutely stunning - this place is the westerbmost point of continental Europe so its a unique thing you can say you experience. We were there to see sunset to that was magical and the coastline is breathtaking. Heads up: once your there its remote and after sunset there were no ubers avail so we ended up requesting premium just to have someone pick us up. Definitely plan your ride in advance. View is worth it though!
Where the land ends and the sea begins! Nice place with great view of the ocean and the cliff, definitely worth a visit. There is a beautiful (but rocky) trail surrounding the area. We came here from Sintra by Uber, the driver waited for us while we checked the place out, then took us to a cozy seaside village in Azenhas do Mar, then we went back to Sintra. Whole trip was $55, but it's worth it if you don't have a car and still want to see these places. It can be very hard to find a ride there.
Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of the Sintra Mountain Range, of mainland Portugal, of continental Europe, and of the entire Eurasian landmass! I couldn’t miss it while visiting this part of Portugal, and I’m glad I made it. There are plenty of places to park your car here, so don’t worry about it the way you might for many other spots in Portugal. Just get there, tick it off your travel list, and enjoy the ocean views and the feeling of standing at the edge of the continent. Simply amazing!!
A pleasant location near to Lisbon. It has great views of the Atlantic Ocean. It is the westernmost point of Sintra Mountain Range, mainland Portugal and continental Europe. It is very easy to get there from Sintra. You can take public transport that takes around 50 minutes from the Sintra station. We took a bolt (App taxi) from Sintra and it took around 25 minutes costing roughly around 10 euros.
This place is surprisingly amazing, have multiple spots nearby to enjoy the weather and ocean view.. It really feel like the endge of Europe, these cliffs are a good place for sightseeing..

The Capuchos Convent was one of our favorite places during our time in Sintra. I bought tickets online in advance from home (you get a discount buying in advance), and we pre-reserved our Uber rides to & from the site which made transportation easy. We got tickets for opening time (9 am) and on a Monday (to avoid weekend crowds). We arrived just before it opened and we were the only ones there. We actually got the entire site to ourselves for an hour and a half! We were able to take our time, take tons of photos and enjoy the peacefulness and tranquility of the site. It was magical for us. Really gave us a glimpse into the meditative serenity of why the Friars built and lived there. You really get a sense of nature's magic. As we were leaving, there were several tour groups of people arriving and coming in .. I don't think we would have had the same magical experience we did if we had been there the same time as tons of people. My suggestion - go on a weekday and go early!!
The Convent of the Capuchos, located in the Sintra Mountains, is a small 16th-century Franciscan monastery built by D. Álvaro de Castro, known for its simple architecture perfectly integrated into nature. Constructed among boulders and lined with cork, it reflects the Capuchin friars’ ideal of poverty and humility, who lived there in seclusion and contemplation. After the dissolution of the religious orders, it was abandoned and later restored, now managed by Parques de Sintra and open to the public. Its mystical atmosphere, the blend of stone, wood, and vegetation, and its profound silence make it one of Sintra’s most unique and inspiring sites, ideal for those seeking to capture the connection between spirituality and nature.
Such a magical place. We bought tickets for a night guided tour. It was amazing. It was beyond our expectations. Even to get there was an adventure.I think everyone owes this place a visit just to see monks humble lifestyle and their respect for the nature. Beautiful and sad at the same time. Guide Bertrand was very passionate and interesting. Highly recommended.
I almost hesitate to review because I don't want too many people to visit! It is truly a magical place, kept in wonderful shape. They put great effort into restoring and preserving the historical nature of the place.
Minimalist and mossy, this site is the opposite of palace grandeur. Low doorways and tiny cells tell the story better than any plaque. It’s quiet, shaded, and contemplative—one of Sintra’s few truly peaceful stops. Not flashy, but if you like places with atmosphere and restraint, it sticks with you.
Incredibly quiet, atmospheric and humble hermitage dating from 1560. The site is fed by natural springs and many of the tiny rooms, cells, stairs and narrow corridors used by the Capuchin Franciscans are excavated in the rock. A really beautiful place to visit and a must see!
It is breathtaking beautiful. A beautiful and peaceful place one created for prayer meditation to honor God so unlike your everyday convent evident by the humility in which, it is evident, the friars leaved! As you walk through the facolity you are transported to a different time, a period... a way of life different than ours. It is a place i recommend people definitely visit!
My favourite place in Portugal so far, admittedly only three days in. Incredibly atmospheric, set amongst moss covered boulders and trees in an isolated spot. It felt like a scene from a fantasy novel. Cork bark used for shutters, doors, frames, benches, boulders bulging out of walls. Remnant decorative features including a skull and Cross bones! A must visit.

Beautiful calm beach where you can feel the vibes of ocean and enjoy both swimming and surfing. Easy and affordable to reach by Bolt or Uber from Sintra.
Great sandy beach, massive waves so not the safest for small children, but fun for those who are swimmers. Make sure to check out the archeological site just up from the beach, it's not well marked so easy to miss.
A small beach within a very pleasant environment. It was known for its rough and freezing waters, not so freezing anymore... and that is its main threat. At week-ends and in the summer time huge crowds overpopulate the place which then risks losing its charm and traditional quietness.
A peaceful sandy beach in a charming little village — such a lovely surprise. I ended up here by chance and instantly fell in love. Praia das Maçãs is not just a beach — it’s a great starting point for beautiful walks. You can head to Azenhas do Mar, hike toward Cabo da Roca, or explore the cliffs near Praia Grande. Sunset views are stunning, and the whole area feels calm and welcoming.
Lovely beach, relatively clean. Great for a swim or to watch the sunset
Praia das Maçãs is a feeling! Once you’re there you’ll sense IT! Beyond space & time!
Great for children who can play in the river (there is a small river there with much warmer and shallow water). No strong wind (or we didn’t face it). Many parking nearby, but usually everything is busy, need time to find a spot.
The best beach in the area. The waves are big, but fun to play with - lots of services such as playground, toilets, cafes, restaurants, icecream, marketplace etc. The river that comes down at the beach is quiet, and very nice for the children to play in. You can make short walks up the mountainside along trails.

One of the best places to reach the Atlantic Ocean. Great views, some options for food and drinks nearby. It’s definitely a must if you’re around!
If you are in the Sintra region, you will find this Gem nearby. A spectacular view from the restaurant and the food was excellent. Will definitely return to try more of the seafood menu offerings.
A must see village and beach (with tidal pool for swimming). The village and its white house’s on the hill side are spectacular. From the other side the steps up look line hard work. The day we visited the beach the beach was closed (red flagged) due to the heavy surf.
Praia das Azenhas do Mar is absolutely stunning! The view of the ocean crashing against the cliffs is breathtaking, and it’s the perfect spot to relax, take in the scenery, and breathe the fresh ocean air. The little village perched on the cliffs makes the view even more magical.
The views are stunning here - the village is carved into dramatic cliffs overlook Atlantic. The beach and natural pool area are also dramatic and stunning. One of the many stunning iconic viewpoint in Portugal.
A natural swim pool in a small beach. Not easy to park, but a recommended visit. There is a bar and restaurant also, with incredible views.
Stunning, dramatic spot with water you wouldn’t even want to swim in. Cliffs and waves are intense and primal. There happens to be one of the best seafood restaurants I’ve tried in Portugal at the base of the town adjacent to the praia
It’s just amazing! The view it’s incredible

Had an amazing tour today, so interesting. Not only did we see and hear the history of the barrels and about the production process, we were also able to see behind the scenes. We tried two wines, a white and a red, which were accompanied by meat and cheese tapas. Highly recommend. It is essential to book in advance.
When we arrived we said we were looking to have some wine, the gentleman welcomed us in and said we could walk around. We checked out the barrels real quick. Once we walked to the counter the women refused service stating we needed a reservation for a tasting - the whole place had like 2 people in it. I asked about having just a glass, but apparently they do not have a liquor license for that.
Very nice winery where you can learn a lot about the history of Colares wines. Interesting for amateurs and wine professionals. The wines are really different due to sandy soils and sea influence. If possible, try to buy a few bottles because they are hard to get outside Portugal. Book a tour and tasting in advance so they can make time for you. Not cheap, but worth it!
This place was great! We stopped here in between sights, and they were able to accommodate our group of 7 without issue. You would not think its behind the small, skinny door and it can be easily missed but once your in, it is worth a taste. The wine was delicious, and we enjoyed listening to the history and making of their wines. We even bought 2 bottles, one red and one white. I would definitely recommend and return next time I'm in Portugal.

Beautiful winery, it's literally like a museum. The wine tasting was fun and delicious. Would recommend visiting. The host was lovely and her English was excellent.
We booked a private tour with Pedro, he is such a good guide: Very educational, he had a lot of very insightful anecdotes about the region and the process of wine making. We rounded up the visit with a tasting of 4 wines (2 white and 2 red), absolute little gems!
A fantastic wine tour for a unique region and wine co-op situation. Our tour guide was fantastic and the wines were delicious.
