Whit a 10 min stop and both end stations.(there you can go to the toilet or buy something to drink) the guide who is only telling things in French (not in english. I don' t know what it is with the French. I think they are afraid to do it in english. I knew he could speak it because before the trip I spoke with him) but that were the only negative points. Parking at the stations is big enough so that is no problem. I can recommend it to do it.

Fabulous trip on Le Train Rouge from Riversaltes to Axat. The first train was a closed carriage which travelled through some lovely French countryside. The second train was an open carriage which offered spectacular views and drew attention from passers by and ran parallel with the road through the mountains, passing gorges as we travelled across high bridges and through numerous tunnels on our journey to Axat. Would recommend.

Fun open air train we got from St Paul de Fenouilledes to Axat through beautiful countryside. The train conductor gives a live commentary in French and English but it's basically unitelligable over the noise of the train. Sit away from the front of the train as you get the smell of diesel fumes during the entire journey otherwise.

We never took the train but read a lot. Fascinating how the old railway line from Carcassonne to Perpignan was then reactivated for this short stretch from Axat to Queribus Castle. There are even Dreisinen to rent here. We'll do that next time.
