Great detailed information and the guy at the front really knew his stuff that he shared how the snake exhibit was curated. The special front room exhibit is replaced every 4 months or so. (January should be Randy White focused). Won’t take too long if you are in a hurry but seeing the photos of the building process is impressive - 1.3M sticks of dynamite! Free admission and easy parking.
Not knowing what to expect at such a small venue, we were very surprised at how much history is packed into this place. The gentleman at the front desk was very informative and seemed to really want to answer any and all our questions. They seem to have rotating exhibits up front. During our visit, it was an everglades Python invasion exhibit. It features a local Python hunter, Wildman Dusty, who also has a pizza restaurant in town. Everywhere else is everything everglades. Including movies filmed in the glades. We enjoyed our visit and it's free. Yet they do have a donation box.
A small but very impressive display of the history of the Everglades area and the building where this museum is located. The revolving display at the time of our visit was the invasive python that number in the 100's of thousands. The gentleman at the desk was very knowledgeable and talked to us at length about the pythons in Florida and the constant effort by the python hunters to track and eliminate this invasive spiece that decimates native wildlife all over Florida.
Such a cool place, so friendly and we were informed one of very few free museums. You can tell the folks who runt his facility are so passionate about everglade city history
The manager, he was so knowledgeable gave us some great stories about the past every month. They change the front room so you’re always learning more and more about the Everglades in the history of the area always something new. He was so knowledgeable in the museum was so wonderful thoroughly enjoyed it.
What a wonderful time on our visit. A Free museum with absolutely outstanding displays. The curator was incredible and very attentive to ask the visitors. A wealth of information and a true love of Everglade City and Collier County. Must stop location.
Although small & tucked away, my family & I enjoyed the exhibits. Very informative. The videos tied everything together. Will return. Reception was very welcoming & informative.
Great history of the Everglades and Collier county.

Great place to launch boats from and get a lot of information about the national park. You can rent kayaks/canoes, possibly other equipment but that's what I saw (I had my own kayak, perfect place to launch). Do not forget anything though .. I washed off my kayak spray skirt. hung it on the fence by the hose and left it there. I came back the next day and inquired at the lost and found but no one turned it in.
We drove by the Gulf Coast Visitors center as part of the Everglades National Park, however they are still under construction. Signs said Winter 25/26 so looking forward to a return visit as it looks to be really cool.
Rangers and volunteers are friendly, helpful, knowledgeable. Facility destroyed by Hurricane Irma several months ago and temporary trailer is not in service. Visitor Center lacks electricity, water & bathrooms (port-o-potties on location). Still hosting informative canoe trips, talks, limited camping. Beauty abounds!
Volunteers were personable and informative. We were unable to take the 90 minute 1000 Island boat tour because it was already filled up. However the volunteer directed us to the Cypress walking tour a few miles up the road which was an easy 1 mile boardwalk nature trail with interesting birds, vegetation and alligators. There was another volunteer at the end of the walking trail that was quite knowledgeable and informative on many aspects of the wildlife, habitat, trees and history of the area.
One of the coolest visitors center I've ever been to! We were absolutely thrilled with our visit in Gulf Coast Visitor Center. We took the narrated 90 minutes boat tour out to Chokoloskee Bay and we saw a bunch of widelife: many dolphins, manatees, stingrays, pelicans, osprey, an eagle nest. The boat captains were so knowledgeable and humorous as well. So epic trip, highly recommend!
This was an incredible experience last year. The staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. It was a little difficult to find exactly where to go at first for the kayak rental, but aside from that, everything else was terrific. The equipment was in good shape, and the tips for navigating the waterways were very useful.
The visitors center was destroyed during hurricane Ian. But the have a tent up and you can take the 10,000 island boat tour from there- book online. The tour was so fun especially on a hot day. Saw white pelicans migrating dolphins and much more.
We ended up arriving at the Visitor Center right around 5pm and the park ranger was nice enough to stay a little bit late to answer a few of our questions and give up a map to show us the best places to go to view wildlife. She was so kind and personable and we were very impressed with her customer service! I wouldn’t go to this area expecting a lot of attractions or entertainment, but if you enjoy wildlife and nature it is a really wonderful experience!

Fantastic place to see alligators in the wild. We spent a few minutes at the actual roadside Park boardwalk and then drove on the road adjacent to that all the way down for approximately 13 miles. And that amount of time we saw over 50 alligators and it’s just a beautiful, perfect place to be able to see alligators in the wild. I highly recommend it
So very cool to be able to see gators in their natural habitat. It would be nice if they could cut back some of the shrubbery blocking the view. The potty, I don't recommend unless it's an emergency.
I pull in off Tamiami Trail and, bam—there’s a short but mighty boardwalk overlooking a swamp alive with wildlife. Alligators, turtles, birds—even the odd snake—chill right beneath my feet. A few shaded picnic tables, simple restrooms (bring your patience)… perfect for stretching your legs and soaking in real Everglades grit. Worth every minute.
This is a fantastic place to view alligators! BUT DO NOT FORGET YOUR BUG SPRAY!!!!!! We made an impromptu drive through Big Cypress National Preserve and found out very quickly that we were not prepared. The mosquitoes 🦟 made it NOT fun. If you do have the proper PPE, this was a great place to see native birds and Alligators. The boardwalk takes you right by the water and it’s not a far walk at all. Definitely check it out, just be prepared. I can’t stress that enough!!
I stop here every time I am in the area. Sometimes you have to go a little down the road to see gators but the last time I was there in February around 11AM there were at least 30. Saw a few snakes, turtles and beautiful birds. Bathrooms could use a little work.
This place was recommended by our airboat tour guide. It's beautiful...saw LOTS of gators and was able to pull off on the side of the road and fish.
The parking seemed pretty basic. Picnic tables, grassy area & a walkway to view the water. There were alligators in the water, so they were interesting to watch.
Nice little park to see wild gators and have a picnic. Protip: bring bug spray at peak mosquito times though!

know they do the best they can..however ASK QUESTIONS before you book a tour based on info you pick up at the everglade city chamber of commerce;we booked a tour on CAPTAIN BARRY SEE MANATEES GUARANTED at port of the islands..it was a night mare, our boat driver named andrew licardi jr.(who needed clean clothes and a shower)is an anti government nut used profane words and actions all in front of small children,we did see a manatee as does every one just walk around the hotel sea wall (its free) not $40.00 and at the end of the boooring tour andrew jr told us what we should tip him..when we did trip he stated i knew you were a yankee as all of you are cheap! sorry to say "see manatees guaranteed" is nothing more than a scam and tourist trap, would suggest that the chamber Remove then from the list of attrations for toursit to visit! we have learned that andrew licardi jr has an extensive criminal background!
Worth a stop just because there's nothing much else around this lonely corner. But, the selection of gifts and novelties is pretty haphazard and poorly displayed in this odd building. There are lots of brochures for touristy things to do in the area though.
A small shack on the side of the highway where you can buy cheap Everglades merchandise and find info on the airboat tours. Nothing impressive as you can just drive 5 min further down the road and get all the same info from the companies themselves.
Worst sight I have ever tried to get on had 1 question for Everglades Chamber of Commerce. Have spent 20 minutes to be able to ask and still cannot get on.
