Great place with lots of history. I've been coming to Grass Valley for years now and never knew about this place. Learned a lot by wandering around. Didn't get a guided tour in time, book early. Still enjoyed reading signs and listening to information.
Beautiful historic park that covers the h history of the empire mine on one side and the lovely property and grounds of the rich and famous. What struck me, is that the large 4000+sf house was the summer property of this family. Great escape from the heat and close to town to get ice creams before heading back down the hill.
This was our second time visiting this historic park. We were there during 4 July weekend, so there were a lot of visitors and the guided tours were booked luckily that the first time when we were there, we got the opportunity to enjoy the guided tour. There were a lot of free parking. The entrance fee is only five dollars. I like that the park is dog friendly. There were a lot of picnic tables. We brought foods and drinks, had a picnic and enjoyed the meals under the trees.
This is a place you must visit if you are in area. Fascinating history and amazing work. The estate is gorgeous, not to mention the gift shop! A must-see destination. You will not be disappointed. There are restrooms, places to have a picnic, and admission is reasonable.
A $5 adult entry fee, in addition to the historical area, also gives you access to three 45-minute to 1.5-hour tours: garden, cottage, and mining, as well as a volunteer tour guide sharing all the fun facts they know about the history and place!
We enjoyed the site and took 2 tours with an excellent story teller leading. You can see how the wealthy mine owners lived alongside the place where workers performed hazardous jobs for long hours.
If your first name begins with Kim and you lost a pair of keys they are at the visitor center. 11.11.25. They were found near hard rock and Osborn trail near la barr road All is well. Was able to reunite the keys with person
What an absolutely wonderful place that this is not enough hours in the day for us to get all the way through it the dog had a great time we had a great time. I highly recommend the video inside the building. And the blacksmiths were working what a great place

Absolute favorite hotel and restaurant hands down! My husband planned an amazing surprise proposal with the help of the staff! We have always dined and stayed there, and recently had our post I do wedding party at their speak easy. Anthony was a joy to work with, and always had excellent communication! They made our evening so special. Our guests raved over the drinks and food!! Then this week we needed to pull off a last minute very special surprise. Once again Anthony was on it and he and his team made it such a wonderful day to remember! Whether you are going there for a meal or planning an event, you will not be disappointed
We came here for my wife’s birthday! We unfortunately did not get to meet any Victorian or early American ghosts. Dang. But regardless we had an amazing time! The place has such a modern yet historical charm. Everything from claw foot tubs to old elevators. And the restaurant and bar are incredible. Get the Brussels sprouts, what the chef does to them I don’t know but they were life changing.
This hotel is charming and has potential to be much better, but is limited by parking issues (no guarantee you can park on property as it’s open to the public and the public really uses it). The building has terribly thin walls (you will hear music from the streets, music and noise from the bar, and the other guests in their rooms - yeah that too 😩). They serve coffee and scones (the size of meatballs) at 7 which they say is included….the coffee is okay and there is half and half - a few bags of green tea, but no nut milks out. The staff is helpful and nice and the restaurant has good food! I would eat there again but, I don’t think I’ll stay in the hotel again. Their sister property, The National Exchange has a way better vibe, a wonderful terrace overlooking the street below….it’s in Nevada City and is on another level…w/ a luxurious lounge (lots of teas and nut milks and grownup sized muffins) with a terrace to enjoy your drinks or coffee overlooking the street (instead of sitting off the overcrowded parking lot in the back). I’ll definitely go back there again and again :)
It was our first time in Grass Valley, and the Holbrooke lived up to every expectation! The rooms were clean, tastefully decorated, and full of period charm — plus they were refreshed daily. The dining room and bar were beautiful and lively on Friday night, complete with live music! Kim and the entire staff were incredibly helpful and gave us great local recommendations. Augustina and Caitlin were also incredible hosts and truly elevated our dining experience with their warmth and attention to detail. The parking lot is conveniently located just behind the building, which made it easy to come and go during our river day trips. The food was delicious, and the cocktails were perfectly balanced. All in all, a 10/10 stay!
Stopped into the bar, because who doesn’t want to grab a whiskey pour at the oldest hotel in CA? Augustina poured us an amazing honey-apricot old fashioned cocktail. Nice and light for summer! Don’t be afraid to ask for a recommendation if you stop in.🥃
I really enjoyed my stay at the Holbrook Hotel! The location is perfect for exploring downtown Grass Valley on foot, with plenty of charming shops and restaurants nearby. The room was very clean, and the staff was warm and welcoming, which made the stay even more pleasant. The Wi-Fi in the back unit wasn’t as fast as I expected, but it may be better in the main building. The small breakfast is a nice touch, though it would be great to have a non-dairy milk option for coffee and maybe some fruit to start the day. On the plus side, I really appreciated the complimentary bottled water, voucher for the bar, and enjoyed the tea selection. Overall, a lovely experience — I’ll definitely be back!
This hotel is elegant. The rooms are well appointed, the staff is excellent, the food amazing. The bar is a lovely stop for an excellent old fashioned. The staff welcome you like a charished friend. The location on Main Street is a delight. This place, this town is charming. The beds are so soft!
I've stayed at the Holbrooke twice: first time in February and this time in July. My experience in February was lovely, which is why I came back. My experience this time around was sadly not as enjoyable. The good stuff is that the rooms are lovely. Beautifully decorated, comfortable bed, and great AC. (Although I should note that the AC made a very loud, annoying humming noise for 30 seconds a couple times every hour...) We had a room with a balcony which was nice. The front desk staff is also super nice and accommodating. There is a parking lot in back and we had no trouble finding parking. The first time we were here, we were in the main house in a room at the end of a long hall. It felt pretty quiet and peaceful. This past time we were in a room at the top of the stairs, right by the elevator. If you walk down the stairs, you're in the bar. They start playing music in the lobby around 7am (quieter stuff) and don't stop until 10pm weekdays and close to midnight on weekends (louder music in the evenings). We were able to hear the boom boom of the bass all day, whenever we were in our rooms, and at night trying to fall asleep (we had to get up early so needed early nights). I was also disappointed with their hot breakfast, which they serve 9-11am. I got there at 10:30am, and there were three mini muffins left and maybe one spoon of egg scramble. I went across the street to the cafe and got coffee and a better muffin. I'd probably come back if I could get a quiet room again, but room 14 is tough if you like peace and quiet. Especially with our dogs, who could hear every person coming up the stairs. Oh, I also wish they would provide a bath mat, because the tub, though charming, can get quite slick and there are no handles.

This is an absolutely fantastic place to have a venue where you can get together with people and friends and have some entertainment. In this case it was a friend's birthday and an entertainer (DJ) Carlos Kandia that he follows It was at the winery and so he invited friends to celebrate his birthday. It was an awesome time everyone there including the non-birthday guest had a great time mingling with the people who were there for the birthday.
My husband and I had a wonderful wine tasting at Naggiar Vineyards. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, and the wines were delicious! We were fortunate enough to work a 200+ person event there recently and it was an incredibly enjoyable and memorable experience. Working with Mary was a true pleasure as well—she was honest, fair, and punctual throughout the entire process. The staff was friendly and kind, the customers were fun and respectful, and Mary provided everything we needed which made the event seamless. We can’t wait to work with her again!
A group of us went to their summer concert series for my birthday when an ABBA tribute band was playing and it was a perfect night. We danced and sang the whole night. And the wine was AMAZING. Could not recommend this place enough!!
Friendly folks in the tasting room. They have the best Viognier in the Sacramento region. If you prefer reds, you should try their Barbera. They have a great shaded patio to sit and sit your wine, while looking out over a serene pond. In the summer, they usually have free live music on the patio on Friday and Saturday nights. They also have about 6 paid concerts with top level cover bands each year. Not sure about entertaining this year with Covid, but they are doing a great job of keeping everyone safe.
Always wanted to visit this winery - loved their red wine blends, and the location out in the foothills was intriguing. The winery is in a beautiful valley, somewhat remote - nice drive along 2 lane roads, followed by a mile or so along a rough dirt road. You even get to see Bison along the way. Really. The winery met expectation - reasonably priced tastings, and as with most wineries, you get to taste a lot more than what they advertise. Their outdoor covered is beautiful with lots of tables, overlooking a pond. Great views. That’s where we had problem number one - I guess they advertise the winery as family friendly, which sounds OK unless you have to deal with two mothers who brought four young kids along with all their toys. The kids ran wild, totally out of control and ignored by the parents. When the daughter pulled out a tambourine, that was the end for us - we politely asked the mother to have her stop, and were met with the “It’s a family friendly winery”. BS. It’s not a family room. You expect parents to have some control over their kids. And the winery does nothing about it, since a lot of their customers are locals. This pretty much ruined our experience. Problem number two - every winery I’ve visited, and that’s a lot of wineries, drops the tasting charge if you buy a few bottles which we did. Not this place. Overall, the winery is beautiful, great staff, and the wines are very good. It’s a great place to spend a summer afternoon on the patio, with a glass of fine wine and some snacks (you can bring your own food). I recommend taking the drive out there and hopefully you will not have to deal with uncontrolled kids.
An excellent time spent at Naggiar Vineyards. Veryyy good wine (the rosé is deliciiiiious hehe), a place that makes you dream, a warm atmosphere and staff. I'm already looking forward to next time! THANK YOU !
The drive is completely worth it with these timeless treasures... the wine is outta this world, the snacks are melt-in-your-mouth worthy and they always hit the spot 😋 Plus every event is absolute perfection and done phenomenal ❤️🥰😍
Obsessed with this place! Wines were incredible as well as the service. Marianne was our wine expert taste pourer. Great conversation with great wine! What more could you ask for! Will for sure be coming back and sending people this way!

Full of incredible mining machinery, restored, the docents will demonstrate the equipment. Talk to you about the north star mine and surrounding mines. Great local antiques on display. We spent two hours, really nice folks running it. No cost to park and entry by donation of your choice. An amazing time capsule of California large scale mining history!
Fantastic experience at the Northstar Mining Museum. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and more than happy to answer questions. He even gave us a live demo of several displays, which really brought the history to life. The collection is packed with authentic artifacts—from massive Pelton wheels to historic mining tools, maps, and even old revolvers. Everything is thoughtfully arranged, and the atmosphere inside the old stone building adds to the charm. A must-visit if you're interested in local history or engineering!
Really neat piece of history to explore! We got to see the pelton wheel in action and my children enjoyed getting to touch some historical pieces. We will be back for sure.
A wonderful visit! Everyone working here was extremely friendly and informative about the history of the mine and local area. I very much enjoyed Jack's tour and left with tonnes of knowledge from all that he had to share. Becca was especially warm and friendly, excited to know more about my travels. Highly recommend for those looking to get an understanding of the rich heritage here.
interesting and educational as well as sweet crew + tour guides :)
Stopped here today, what a great experience. Our docent, Larry, was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. So much to see we will have to visit again. Look forward to taking family on this excursion.
Amazing museum. Small but absolutely packed. If you like mining equipment and Pelton wheels, you'll love this place. If you're not really into mining equipment or Pelton wheels, you might want to pass. For me? Yeah, fantastic place
It is surprisingly interesting. It has a working water wheel and ore processing machine

This is a treasure of a theater! The seats are comfortable, the sound, projection and sightlines fantastic. Popcorn is wonderful and lovely people working here. Del Oro seems to play a lot of things for kids/young people and hope they play more 'arthouse' films. We saw Nosferatu this week and so grateful to have an artdeco historic theater in our town.
Way cool old place. Felt like I was back in time. Everything was great! Service with a smile and welcoming but the women's bathroom was bad, toilet paper everywhere, I picked up some in two stalls and near the sink. Customers need to be better ppl and clean up around yourself even if it's not your mess.
This was such a fun experience! Totally old school theater vibes. They have different discount days which is also fun! We went on a Sunday afternoon and weren’t many people there so plenty of seats to pick from. We got a xl popcorn for $10 that comes with a free refill. The whole area and theater are definitely worth a try!
There are oddly small bathroom doors in the women's bathroom. It just adds some type of cinematic comically awkward feeling to the bathroom experience. It's an old lovely movie theatre.
Just wanted to make a review really quick. Me and the kiddos went and saw Superman this weekend. One of the employees was dressed up as Superman and it made their day!!! Thanks so much Prime Cinemas!!!
Th is beautiful theater is a downtown Grass Valley icon. You can see it from miles away. The art deco design is gorgeous. Come support this local theater!
Historic building enhances the night out at the movies experience. Excellent acoustics, comfy seating. Been coming here since before they had more than one screen. Seen some of my favorite movies here. Highly recommended. Excellent experience. Beautiful building in prime location. Bathrooms are amazing.
Great vintage theatre. Good sound system
