Such a cute church in the heart of Smithfield. Its a great place to go to learn about local history. Our tour guide was super knowledgeable and the staff was very kind and friendly. There's a little gift shop at the front and they give regular tours of the church and the grounds. We were able to walk around the cemetery after as well. Great way to spend an afternoon.
We absolutely loved the self-guided audio tour of St. Luke's Historic Church & Museum. It was wonderfully narrated and very informational. The church building is impeccably maintained and the grounds are quite lovely. We found walking around the historic section of the cemetery, reading the tombstones, to be quite fascinating. It was our great pleasure to be able to meet the Executive Director, John Ericson, and his very knowledgeable staff during our visit. We are grateful for Mr. Ericson's choice to participate in the Museums for All program as it allowed us to be able to visit the property. We highly recommend visiting this Church if you are blessed to be in the area. It's beautiful!
We had a wonderful time on the tour. St Luke's is the oldest in the area, the grounds are beautiful and our tour guide was very knowledgeable. Was able to bring our dog bear along.
First, this is one of the few architectural remnants of 1600s in Virginia. It was restored and serves as a reminder of the colonial roots of Virginia and America. Second, because this is a church it is a reminder of the historical reality of Christian religion being pervasive in Colonial Virginia (not just New England). The Anglican vestries were part and parcel of local government. Third, the director of St. Luke's John Ericson is an authority on religion in Colonial Virginia. Highly recommend his FREE lectures. We enjoyed our recent visit with friends. After or before visiting, you can eat and shop in downtown Smithfield which is only 10 minutes away.
Very interesting and informative tour of this church. The oldest brick structure church in Virginia, it was built in the late 1700's. The grounds feature a graveyard in existence since before the construction of the church. Our tour guide was very good. An excellent way to spend an afternoon.
Absolute hidden gem. One of my favorite places in the Hampton Roads area. It's really beautiful and the history is really important.
Brenden(sp?) was a wonderful educator. Full of natural knowledge that you could tell he enjoyed sharing. He was kind and soft spoken and his enthusiasm was contagious. He made the experience what it was and it was so refreshing to hear from someone with his passion for the subject. Your was partially self lead and paced which we enjoyed as we had several slower walkers. Walk way was clear and easy to navigate. We liked having the Audio options at our disposal as we went along. Peaceful and enjoyable experience. Once we entered the church Brenden helped our group inside and allowed us time to look around. He was eager to answer all of our questions and customized his talk to what we were interested in. The history here is incredible and we enjoyed learning about this piece of American history. Kudos to St. Luke’s for finding Brenden our group agrees he’s a gem. Gift shop was cute and offered affordable options in order to be able to take a little something with to remember your day. Affordable tour.
This was one of, if not the best tours I've ever had of a historic site. Our guide, Brenden, was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable. He went above and beyond and made the entire experience highly memorable. 10/10, highest recommendations

We scored a rental in the historical district and couldn’t love it more! This park is in our backyard… literally! The bridge is very well maintained and all flowers around the walking area too. Ground maintenance does a fantastic job for such a huge park and also the residents love this park so you never see trash, always see dog waste bags and also water for dogs. Super dog friendly (on leashes of course) and my husky goes for many walks a day here. It’s a nice spot for picnics, events, etc. too.
Beautiful park. Many trails with informational signs about interesting wildlife. Playscape is very rustic, a bit underwhelming and in need of some love, but my toddler had fun, so that's enough for me. Beautiful place.
Beautiful park with multiple walking trails, a bike trail and kayak rentals. Perfectly maintained and what looked to be a great play area for kids. Definitely recommend!
I live in Smithfield and I still can’t get enough of this walking park! It’s peaceful, goes near water, Woods, views of the town and deer and painted turtles, herons and hawks often show up.
It’s so many things to do such as walk, trails, bike, trails, and kayaking. You can also rent kayaks at the location where you can launch your kayak at. The trails are so amazing. You can walk for hours to get a good walk and even run through the trails as well. They also have dog parks and a small playground for the kids, and you have sitting areas throughout the trail that you can get great view of nature.
This park is wonderful. It had 2 trails that caught my eye. The main one takes you around the entire park. There are information stands that details local plants and animals. You scam the QR code in the stands, and you get more information. There's a playground that is covered in the shade from tall trees. There's even a long slide that I'm sure younger kids would enjoy. Although, the playground isn't in the best of shape. It could use a makeover.
I take my dogs to walk on the trails here every day. They are all about 1.5 miles long and very peaceful. There are puppy clean up stations all throughout the park which is great because I don't have to worry about carrying a poo bag the whole time I'm walking. There are also several benches set up in serene locations to listen to the birds and for peaceful contemplation. If you visit keep an eye out for painted rocks or consider leaving one of your own.
A beautiful park right next to historic Smithfield. Really impressed with this. Lots of lookouts over the marsh, very clean and well maintained, includes a dog park and a unique playground as well as a kayak launch. Beautiful shaded and unshaded trails alike. I would be here all the time if I lived nearby.

Wonderful people and worth visiting when in the area. Don't forget to check in about the trail system, few visitors experience!
It's a great place to walk around. Walk down Mainstreet and pop into the shops. Masks are required to go in most places. Restaurants are open for both indoor and outdoor eating without much wait. Head to the park for a leisure walk after eating at the Smithfield restaurant.
Fare the wellness massage helped me with my knee pain on day of pickers market. Cherie was kind and helpful that day .Stop by Smithfield you will enjoy the experience.
Went on February 8th, not sure what the ladies name was who was working but she was great. Very friendly with a sense of humor!
If I could give it ten stars,I would ! Staff gave us practical advice for travel with happy, smiling faces. Vendor/art shops were amazing and had lots of fairly priced (beautiful) items! A must-do if you are in Smithfield!
I love the vintage market Saturdays, Cure coffeehouse and the quaint little shops.
What a great day in Smithfield , Va. A bit nippy to start with our last market of the winter seaon. I thought there was a great turnout and downtown looked to be hopping at all hours of the day ! Look forward to our next ye as r in town. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. Remember...... it only takes a second to be kind. . 😄
This is the Visitors Center for the town of Smithfield, Virginia. We tried to go here to get information about the town and what there is to do there. I guess we got there too early because they do not open until 10 AM. They do have some brochures in a holder outside of the building, so taking those was the best we could do. We ventured around the town on our own since there was nobody to ask for recommendations. They were having some kind of scarecrow competition and there were scarecrows all up and down Main Street.

Fun, small museum stop! Really wild and random things inside with equally wild and random informative blurbs along the way. Totally worth the stop if you're nearby. If you've seen Gilmore Girls through, it's a lot like Taylor's museum that he curates in the house Luke wants to buy.
It’s a beautiful town, and you can really feel the enthusiasm of the locals in welcoming visitors. It has everything you need for a lovely morning or afternoon: a few bars, a few restaurants, a delicious bakery, a picturesque main street, an Inn that looks magnificent from the outside, and a museum that has a bit of everything, with a charming lady who greets you warmly. Whether you're visiting with kids or adults, it’s a delightful place to explore.
Awesome local county museum showcasing the world's oldest ham and peanut! Very well put together high quality displays and great layout with tons of fun information. Well worth a visit. Kids can dig for shark teeth and keep it! Ask for the scavager hunt if you have kids there. Museum staff were very friendly and helpful.
This is a very neat and educational museum on the history of Smithfield and the area. Lots of interesting artifacts on display and, of course, you can see the world's oldest peanut (1890) and edible ham! It was surprisingly inexpensive to visit for everything that's included. It's also located near shopping and restaurants, and there's plenty of free parking.
Fabulous museum!! It covered a much broader spectrum of subjects than we expected. Everything about this museum was very well done; the artifacts, the presentation, the signs and interpretations and especially the tour by Mike! Mike has a wealth of knowledge and gave a very detailed and enthusiastic presentation!
The place was very clean and the gift shop was small but cute. The coolest thing was the general store. The Lady at the front desk, was a sweetheart. And my good friend from south india just love the place. Thank you so much for working hard to keep places like this open.
Nice little museum which is huge on the inside. Friendly staff, lots of artifacts, about local history from the Native Americans to the Colonial period, and beyond. A must to visit at least once. Update : Just revisited the museum a few days ago. Still the same AND more. They added an exhibit on the Cold War and more displays about the Civil War. The staff is as friendly as ever and it isn't busy. Also, just costs two dollars a head. That's cheap. Even for a local museum. And you get to see the oldest peanut. What more can you want?
Very neat museum. It gas the oldest ham and peanut. The gentleman that was working the register was very informative and very nice. Well worth the price of $2.

My daughter and I had a lovely time at the Smithfield farmer's market. I enjoyed walking down main street with its trees shading the way. There were plenty of vendors with tents and all sorts of things to buy. There were also shops that had baked goods and vintage items ready to sell. Much of the items were nostalgic for me as I remember much of the items from when I was a child and some of the items were just cool to look at and try to figure out its use. It was a beautiful day and great buys were everywhere. Take a nice drive to Smithfield one Saturday morning you won't be disappointed.
This review is exclusively for the Smithfield Farmers Market, not Main Street, not the surrounding areas. Smithfield Farmers Market is not a farmers market, it is a craft and drop/ship market. Out of all the vendors available on the day we went, only three sold anything remotely resembling items derived from a farm. To detail, there was one truck selling herbs and potted vegetables, there was a table selling mushrooms, and a small stand selling dairy, eggs, and meat, an additional table tucked towards the back sold bread. The market should not be advertised as a Farmers Market in any way. Although this review is specifically for this market, this seems to have become the norm with other "farmers" markets as well. That being said, the positives and the only reason this received two stars after a half an hour drive to the location, was because the parking was comfortable and plentiful, the live music was lovely and the layout was easy to navigate (in all of five minutes). I understand that vendors are posted on the website etc., a fact I discovered after attending and being very confused as to the "farmers" part of the name. Never the less, this should not in any way be viewed as a farmers market, rather a market for anyone to sell anything with some farm product available. If you are looking to enjoy the day and have a lovely walk and have no intentions of vegetable shopping then this market is for you. If, like myself, you are looking for farm produce, vegetables, fruits, and the like then look elsewhere.
The best hidden gem of Smithfield. So many amazing finds each week. Live music and fresh produce, crafts, and an amazing bread lady. The fresh, hot Korean food truck is amazing, and the rice balls are out of this world!
Love all the choices of vegetable. So many booths with homemade items. There are many food booths. Had lumpia and bison hotdogs. Both were wonderful. Looking first to next week.
The place to be on a Saturday morning.. unique healthy organic foods, wild mushrooms, fresh Farmers products picked straight from the garden or Greenhouse
Nice market with lots of different vendors. It's set right downtown among a lot of other quaint stores.
Well organized market with the most amazing variety of vendors. Between hand made and the food there's so much to choose from!
Bangin selection of local goods, we always get fresh veggies and coffee from a few of the vendors there.

Just worked an event here. This is such an awesome museum! It’s well preserved and the docents are extremely friendly and knowledgeable!
Cool historic courthouse; free and while small, its full of great information! Even have historically-accurate dressed up actors that provide information.
A time machine! An easy way to "travel" to the past, just open its door!
Neat little old courthouse with some interesting history. Worth the short visit it takes to see the two rooms available for viewing.
This was a cool place to see. The volunteer that was there was so full of information and answered all my questions. Glad I stopped in.
Lots of history and when we visited the staff person stationed inside knew a lot of the history and easily answered all questions.
A great place with a lot of history and the people there are the friendliest.
Lots of events to go to. Great eating and just a friendly, quaint place to visit.
