We had wanted to go here for awhile. This is such an amazing place to visit. It is a State Park so you'll have to pay for admission but it's well worth it. The line was long but it goes fast and you're mainly in the shade. The raft is totally cool and gives you the view of a lifetime. Was surprised at the gift shop and the selection they had.
What to see: The 45 degrees Fahrenheit 40 feet deep water is so clear that you can see the bottom, along with fish like trout and perch. Sand tumbles up from the bottom, creating a mesmerizing effect. For the best views, you ride a self-operated (human powered) observation raft across the spring. No swimming nor fishing allowed to protect the spring. Well worth going 60 miles out of your way to go see. So beautiful, so relaxing!
Super beautiful lake but it is very packed with tourists. If you're looking for more remote views, this isn't the spot for you. Its a quick stop and go kind of thing. I don't think I was there longer than 15 minutes. Cute gift shop.
On our road trip around the Great Lakes from Philly, we made a stop at this incredible spot — and don’t ask me to pronounce the name! Located inside Palms Book State Park, this natural spring was one of the most unique and beautiful places we visited. The water is crystal clear all the way to the bottom, and you can easily see fish swimming below. You hop onto a self-operated raft that you pull across the water to the middle of the spring, where there’s an opening in the center to look straight down. It gives you a perfect view of the vibrant underwater world — it’s honestly mesmerizing. It’s a quick stop, but totally worth it. And the best part? It’s dog-friendly! Definitely add this to your list if you’re exploring the Upper Peninsula.
An amazing place!! You need a parks permit or buy a day permit to enter. It is handicap accessible for the full experience. Best seen on a sunny day. I believe it is a 12 acre lake that is 45 ft deep and stays 45° year round. And you can see the bottom like it is right below you.
Absolutely beautiful!! Prettiest thing I’ve seen so far in the wild!!! It’s mesmerizing!! It will capture you and will you stare and watch. Don’t drop your phone. There is a raft, that takes you across the water, and brings you back. Do you can see the bottom of it. The fish are absolutely huge down. And yes, you can see all the way to the bottom of the lake!!! Like I said … absolutely mesmerizing!!
Do not skip this place! It is worth an extra drive wherever you are on the peninsula. Absolutely charming, beautiful green and blue colors in the water, a fascinating spring and the raft itself is cool - super quiet and environmentally friendly. Fee is $11 (for an out-of-state vehicle) and you wait in line to get on the raft. They have a huge gift shop there as well.
It's definitely a tourist stop, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth seeing! The water is unbelievable and the hand pulled ride out to the middle of the spring is fun and educational and very pretty with that unearthly aqua water color. Seeing the water coming up through the bottom with enough force to blow the same around is very cool. I do recommend 👍🏼

Beautiful area. The self propelled raft over the big spring has amazing views into the water. Saw lots of Trout and read about the Burnt Fault that is cracked and how/why this impressive piece of nature exists.
Interesting stop on the way to our destination. Cost of admission to the park was $8-11. The glass bottomed boat is a flat raft operated by pulling the boat across using rope and pulley system. Admission was well worth the experience. Highly recommend the peanut butter Mackinac ice cream while you're there.
The Big Spring, with incredibly clear, mesmerizing blue-green water. The self-operated observation raft offers a unique and fantastic view of the ancient tree trunks and large trout swimming in the depths. It's a short but memorable stop—perfect for a peaceful natural detour.
$11 per car....neat to see the clear water. Be nice if the boat had instructions for time limit as it is manual power, so how long are we able to stay out over the hole before we have to return to dock?
Absolutely beautiful, the fish are huge. You can’t swim in it. You can’t fish in it. Just watch and look. A place to take pictures, there are bathrooms and a little gift shop. And it costs $11.00 to get in. It’s a a Michigan state park. Worth the $11.00 . Let me ready that, it’s hands down worth the $11.00.
We love this park! The natural spring is gorgeous. One of the beautiful wonders of Michigan. It's the largest fresh water spring in Michigan. 40 feet at It's deepest point. The ride across and back on the barge is spectacular! A must see.
Very historic and cool place to visit. Small fee to enter but so worth it. The gift shop is great and offers many neat totems as well as drinks and snacks.
Great time at the park. The only thing was it was a holiday weekend so we had to wait for the raft. Awesome view of the springs and fish. The water was so clear.

Nice park with great staff. Lakefront views at night are amazing. Restrooms and showers are in good shape. Canoes are available for use. I visited in mid-June, and there were lots of bugs, so bring the spray.
This is a very nice lakefront campground. Clean and well maintained. Views of the lake can be completely eliminated by campers who park parallel to the roadway, rather than backing in normally. We initially has very good views of the water, however 4 lakefront campsites combined this way for a reunion type event and created a solid wall of trailers that totally blocked any view of the water. To be fair, the sites are quite wide, and perhaps this is permissible, but be advised. Site 31 was extremely unlevel grass pull through which sloped uphill. My six point auto level system could not adjust to the slope, and I had to relocate to the front of the site. Even there, it stretched the limits of my system. Those without a large number of leveling blocks could be out of luck. We camped at Indian Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
Nice campground! Reasonable rates. Accommodates all size rigs. Many lakeside sites. Most sites include electric. Water and dump station onsite. Clean bathrooms and showers.
Absolutely beautiful campground, we went up for the Fourth of July and all the staff were very helpful and nice. The bathrooms were impressively clean, all the spots were pretty large and gave you plenty of room and the views of the lake are amazing.
It was pretty sparsely populated on the west side. There are two separate roads. Staff were friendly and helpful. It rained Saturday - we went day drinking, Mackinaw Trail Winery, Flatiron Brewery, Tap 21. We have visited this area for 4 years.
Staff was very nice and helpful. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Campsites were well taken care of. We had campsite 46 and tent camped for 4 nights. We wish there had been more grass on this site but overall good spot for a tent.
They were doing construction when I went and the campsites were closed, but the park has a nice trail along the lake and plenty of great woodsy views.
Excellent campground and park! Tons of things to do, great plots, kind people and staff, clean bathrooms and showers, water at will and ice and firewood for sale. Check it out for sure!

Unbelievable location, right on the water, in the middle of a Marina! The building is small, but there is lots of outdoor seating. It's very nice on the inside. Service is outstanding. As far as I can tell there is no food. They had about 8-10 beers on tap, which were good. So, they are a Winery first, and they sell wine flights also. It's a must stop.
Excellent atmosphere and very attentive and friendly service. Several wine varieties and a nice set of beers (on Untapped) . Outdoor and indoor seating by the water. Very relaxing. Highly recommend visiting.
We almost didn't pull down here because we thought there was no way anything nice could be down there. From the road it just looks like a giant parking lot. But once you are down there you see this cool little hut and some nice seating with a decent view. The young lady running it that day was fantastic. Was about to go back for her senior year at Central Mich. My relative got wine. I got beer. The beer I really wanted to try was out. Bummer. Beers were/are made by owners son.
Great little tap house with fun staff and a amall but good selection of craft brews. The pepper beer was amazing. We took two howlers home. ...2025 they have their own beer!
Had a very pleasant stop at the winery in mystique Michigan. Atmosphere was very enlightening, with the local people being very nice to us travelers. The very talkative and chatty woman behind the bar is what made our stop even better. Highly recommend stopping in for a glass of wine or two, And don’t forget the beer.
Nice little place. A few selections of beer/cider on tap. Lots of wine, picked up a nice late harvest reisling.
Selection is small but plenty of outdoor seating and a very nice harbor view! We sat outside with our dog and enjoyed the sun!
Had a great time social distancing and drinking some lovely wine and beer at a nice patio table by the water. Everyone was super friendly. Our server was amazing and we will be back in a few weeks! Having cheese and crackers in the cooler worked out perfectly for us! Thanks for the great afternoon!!!

Coming in from the West side of the U.P. and hadn't really found any decent gift shops along my way. I was looking for a 906 (U.P. area code) t-shirt. I came across this place and stopped to take a look. Lots of neat Michigan items and souvenirs. It's so big they have two sides with cash registers at each. I asked the owner (I think) about shirts as I only saw hats with the 906. She said she had just made some up but shipped them to another store. I was thinking I was going to have to go on the hunt; however, she said she had the design and could print one. Only had to wait for the machine to warm up. Picked a nice Navy t-shirt and voila I had my shirt. So very happy! While I waited I did find an orange sweatshirt in the clearance section with "906 for Life" on it so got that too. Ended up with some yummy chocolates on the other side as well. Would definitely recommend stopping to see what they have.
I normally don’t leave reviews, but I’ll make an exception for this place. I can completely back the other reviews talking about their terrible customer service. One of the older ladies that works there scolded my mom from several feet away, loud enough for a different group of people to hear, just for trying to take a picture. My mom ended up confronting her saying that what she did was rude and that there should be a sign if no pictures were allowed (they’re definitely not afraid to put other signs up, let me tell you) but the lady stood by what she said and wouldn’t back down. She justified her actions by saying that she’s worked there for 40 years, so clearly they don’t care about creating a pleasant customer experience. I’d say do better, but clearly this old lady doesn’t care to try. Also, no public bathrooms? Really?? On top of that, overpriced products that you can find other places. Just to spite them, here’s a picture I took in the store that I didn’t yet know was apparently illegal. Overall, my family will never forget the terrible experience we had there, so I definitely wouldn’t recommend anyone stopping by for a visit.
The lady in this store is very racist and doesn’t like pets!! When we came in, she asked for documentations for my service dog!! It is illegal to ask for documentations regarding service dogs.. We just left the store, because she was being rude and judging our color.
This place is huge, so many things to choose from. They even have jams, and a pickle section of veggies. With fudge, and toys and gifts. The list goes on and on.
You will find a little of everything here. Be ready to spend time browsing through all the treasures in this place
This is a great souvenir shop. We try to stop in every year. They have a large variety of quality products to choose from. I love the variety of books and souvenirs, especially the jewelry, and personalized products with names.
What a wonderful gem of a place! We were headed to the springs of Kitchitikipi when we saw this huge gift shop with a giant bear statue outside. I love all things bear-themed, so we went in. The store just goes on & on—filled with a large variety of souvenirs, clothing, moccasins, & decor. The prices are very reasonable, & the ladies who waited on us were kind, welcoming, & friendly. This family-owned business is exactly the kind of store I like to support…& I did…to the tune of $300 😆. Will absolutely go again!
Way overpriced and we were followed around the store being watched after we were scolded for trying to take a picture. After we were scolded I could hear the lady say "There was a guy in here yesterday who took 32 pictures!". Did you follow that guy around, also, to count how many pictures he took?? Crazy. My wife and son were stared down as they looked at magnets. After that we were so turned off we left. I understand that you may have theft or other issues that all business owners face but, not all businesses make you feel uncomfortable like this one does. I, also, took a picture in spite of her.

Very nice shop. Contains lots of beautiful art. Most is for sale. Shop keeper was a wonderful lady.
A great space with lots of local artists of varying skill levels contributing to its ambiance. Very well set up for the public to come and peruse all kinds of art. Paintings, oil, acrylic, and watercolor. Textile arts, wood, etc. Very enjoyable!
It's SO nice to have an Arts Center downtown! I enjoy the workshops, and opportunities to view and purchase local art.
We just left this beautiful place. The owners are so kind. Chatted for a while, made a small purchase and left feeling so calm and serene. Stop and visit. Beautiful artwork, unhurried owners. One of my favorite stops on our 1st trip to the UP
Quaint, original, unique and creative pieces, friendly attendant
Local artists features Art from oil paintings to photography, hand crafted pottery, wood, whimsical, fabric and yarn works as well.
Nice art gallery offering local talent wares for sale. Variety of paintings, scultpures, glassware, etc.
