A Museum and a Music Venue! Friendly staff and a comfortable place to view the memorabilia and see a show. We attended the Buddy Holly Story concert on Sunday. We sat in one of the booths, and I like how the ticket purchase seating chart tells you which seats are partially or fully blocked from a view of the stage. The show was excellent, and we enjoyed looking around the place. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, while also preserving the original decor. Sitting there enjoying the show, it was very easy to imagine being right there on that famous night, enjoying the last concert before "The Day the Music Died." The town of Clear Lake is a friendly and walkable town right on the lake, so it is a pleasant place to pause and stay for a day or two. We went well out of our way to see the show and the town, and it was well worth it. One of the photos is the lyrics of La Bamba, written by Richie Valens' own hand.
Great venue, Head East put on a great show. Sorry I do not remember the name of the warm up band but the were excellent. Very interesting museum. Fantastic collection of guitars and memories. looking forward to the next time.
I can't find enough words. The staff are tremendously nice. The new interactive experience will give you goosebumps. The memorabilia is so neat to see (this is in the new ballroom). But the old ballroom, wow. Just wow. The history is ALIVE. It even smells like back in the day. You can go into the green room, the ballroom, the dining area, the booths, and finally, the stage. The literal stage where they all performed! Worth every second.
Visited on 6.30.2025. Spectacular venue that many music legends have performed at over the years. An annual Winter Festival is held every February 3rd to honor the legacy of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. The exhibits regarding the Day The Music Died are Outstanding and the originality of the stage, seating areas, and dance floor are Awesome. Highly recommend visiting for the nostalgia and to see a concert.
This place is fantastic! I am so glad we stopped by and that this place has been maintained. Seeing all the information and standing in front of the stage, one can imagine how it must have been that night during the show. We really enjoyed our visit and would recommend it to everyone. I really wish we lived close enough to attend a show at this historic place. They have a ton of things to look at and read about and the staff on hand are very friendly and helpful. I have included a few photos but there is way more to see than my photos even show.
A must see for the Holly, Valens, & JP fan! Was like a time machine. The restoration and upkeep are impeccable and it almost feels like you’re stepping back in time. Downtown Clear Lake is a beautiful place to visit!
Great experience. The Surf well maintained and should be a must visit for all music fans. A large collection of photos and memorabilia. Staff was fantastic. Jada was so very kind and gave us a private tour of the New Surf Music Experience which was to officially open the day after we were at the Surf. She made sure we got to see the entire Experience. Much appreciated and thank you again for taking the time to spend with me and my wife.
Terrific place to check out. U can wander around on your own or pay a donation and get a guided tour. Our tour guide Dana filled us with knowledge in every corner of the facility. Highly recommend a stop here.

Very cool. Wish I had of been able to walk to the site, but it was starting to thunder and its in an open field lol. Watch a couple documentaries on the flight and the stars that past in the crash. Was very cool just being there and seeing it. Bring a donation as you can get a key chain.
We enjoyed seeing the site today. Parking is easy right across the street. Shortest drive on gravel is to approach from the south. Appreciate the landowner allowing the public to still visit this site after so many years. Be sure to visit the Surf Ballroom located 6 miles south where they preformed just before the crash. So much to read about at that historic ballroom, so glad it is still around.
If you're a music buff and fanatic like me, it's worth the trip. Nice gravel parking lot with a porta potty. Across the gravel road are the infamous glasses. You walk down a trail in the field, it takes about 8 minutes. Long enough to listen to American Pie in its entirety. The path is pretty well kept up, and while there are a few bumps and holes, a wheelchair could easily get down it. Once there, there is a neat little memorial. I took a pair of black glasses and put on the memorial. It's worth seeing.
Interesting place to visit. Not a tourist trap. No admission. If you are traveling by motorcycle, be careful. Approach roads are all gravel.
This is a place I had wanted to visit for years. Simple memorial for "The day the music died". Walk out to it can be muddy so come prepared. Not bad during our visit. There is a small parking lot nearby built by a local family that also has a port a potty.
I think it’s a nice walk in a field to the memorial spot. There’s free parking with donation box with guitar pics a glasses . It’s a nicely made and vary respectful
A somber visit, but incredibly kind for the farmer to voluntarily lose such a large strip of land to keep this available for people to visit. There was a locked box for donations, and ponchos to purchase if it were to have rained.
We got here and the sun was fading fast. Took the walk into the field wasnt to long before we found the memorial. Was surprised at how much people vist. Was a great time wiuld do it again

Love strolling through these beautiful gardens—especially during late spring and summer. Located near the lake, the varied gardens, ponds and waterfalls offer places to sit and enjoy the beauty. Don’t miss the herb and butterfly patches, as well as the small chicken coop!
It’s was such beautiful and peaceful place! This a space that needs to exist for lots of people. The flowers and plants were beautiful and such a gift to see.
I had a great time with my family it was awesome to see this place so peaceful and tranquil . You can even eat there with your family. They had places to sit and relax in the shade areas plus next time we're bringing tacos 🌮😁 and horchatas with us.
As a wedding photographer in the area (My Muse Weddings). I love going there not only to photograph my couples for engagement session, but also for their weddings. The outdoor vibes are immaculate and the lawn care is superb. Plenty of flowers all season long.
A peaceful place to enjoy a picnic and take a stroll to enjoy the water features, shade and flowers. It is lovingly maintained and considerate to leave a donation.
I love the native species thoughtfully placed around the garden. Perfect for summer blooms.
What a wonderful, serene location. A true gem.
It's a very beautiful place. My family went to the Halloween special they had. It was so fun for my grandchildren.

I loved going to this town the 9 days I was at Mason city Iowa. I enjoyed going to the mercantile store, the boutique, the Greek restaurant to eat tacos, took a lake tour on the boat. The town is full of warm and friendly folks. Big park to take kids or even go for a stroll by the water. They have small theater and even have some vacation homes to rent. Fell in love with Clear Lake
The campground offers some full hookups, but the majority are electric-only sites. It's close to the lake and evening walks on the sidewalk are great photo ops. There is a nice playground and two restroom/shower houses. There is a dump station that can be accessed from both sides. They put in several new fire pits and one section has new picnic tables.
Although I didn’t camp here this trip, I plan to do so in the future. I had a great talk with the Park Ranger. He was very helpful and friendly.
Used to camp here as a kid, swung by on a reminiscing tour with my brother from Nebraska....good times, great place
The beach park was PARADISE 🏖️ with my partner! 😊 We had an amazing day out soaking up the sun, playing in the waves, and enjoying the beautiful scenery 🌴. The beach was clean and well-maintained, and the atmosphere was relaxed and peaceful. Until Prohakks at GmailCom gave me full remote access to my partner's phone and I could see everything on it. Then, I could see myself that she had been cheating on me!
Clean fun place to hang out for the day. Docks for swimming, fishing, or boating. Has a small splash pad and clean bathrooms.
I was illegally detained by DNR officer Josh for riding a pedestrian conveyance upon the state highway in the campground. This is not a crime and therefore no reasonable articuable suspicion of a crime existed to warrant a traffic stop. The DNR had an illegal policy overstepping their jurisdiction by banning pedestrian conveyances on the state road in the campground. Josh was attempting to enforce this policy and prohibited me from riding my scooter in the campground for the rest of the weekend. This was a clear violation of my 4th Amendment rights (unwarranted stop + unwarranted seizure of my property by placing an unlawful restriction upon it's use on the road for the remainder of my visit) All pedestrian conveyances are LEGAL to operate on state highways and roads regardless if they are in a DNR campground or not. The DNR had to remove all references to this policy after I successfully petitioned their legal department to review this policy and they determined they had infact violated the law and overstepped their jurisdiction. All references to banning pedestrian conveyances in state parks have been removed. No apology was given, even after I directly asked for one and gave them an opportunity to do so, for my rights being violated for simply visiting the state park on an escooter. I have all documents, emails and receipts which will corroborate everything I posted here.

It was an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon. The captain and the lady at the snack bar/ticket booth were both very nice. Beautiful day on the lake
The lake tour is 1 hour and 30 minutes; covering 10 miles. Umbrella tables and plenty of benches topside. Bar and tables below deck. Snacks are available. Safe and child friendly. At the time of this post, adults' admission is $18 and child-$8.
I had a lovely time ! We went out on a ride the weather was just right we got to see all the beautiful houses surrounding the lake! We also had lunch it was catered in by our group !
Waited in line so we should have been first in line with our party of 5 adults. When it was time to pay and board the captain let a large party about 18 people cut in front of the line. They said they had a reservation but they don't take reservations. Then we were yelled at twice by the lady taking money from the group that cut in front of us. She made us back up so we were not on the boat until our turn to pay. The boat ride was good. Water was $1 and pop $2.
Took the 4:30pm tour on Clear Lake. The captain was knowledgable and entertaining as he explained the importance of several key landmarks and also touched upon the history of the lake. Took right about 90 minutes and the drinks were great and reasonably priced. This is a true paddle wheel boat, so it is definitely a must do when in the area.
Hubby & I are in Clear Lake for a few days but today was the only day we had that coincided with their cruise schedule. We planned to take this cruise & arrived at the site 30 minutes prior to boarding. No staff ever appeared at the dock. As the crowd grew & conversation took place, it became apparent there may be no cruise. Finally one person in the group announced that there was no 4:00 cruise today according to a source who was privy to the information. Very disappointed that no staff came & apologized for the cancelation.
We went on a Thursday evening. It was relaxing sitting on the top deck, drinking a beer and watching the sunset. The kids enjoyed it as well.
This place is a joke . I called ahead of time because I was coming from out of town . The girl tells me no worries they are running three times a day . We arrived then with ten other people waiting for half an hour the girl comes out after watching everyone waiting tells us they are not running after all . The place is ran terrrible . Very bad service. Never waste your time .

I've gotta give a shout-out to this spot for serving up some seriously awesome craft beers in the Clear Lake area. The staff? Super cool and always welcoming. They even pulled off a miracle when my wedding ring took a dive through the patio floor – had it back on my finger in a couple of days. I've swung by a bunch of times and never met a beer I didn't like. If you're around and craving some top-notch brews, this place is a must-visit!
A lot of room to enjoy the great beers here! The taproom staff are skilled, friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoy the Lake Tine Kolsch!
Very nice Place inside and out. One down side not much parking. Good customer Service. Lake time brewery has a good number of beers on tap. I had the Red Zeppelin Red Ale, as they say... "Start your journey on the stairway to beer heaven"... No Stairway for me, just a common red Ale... I love big flavorful Beers, this beer was not. The menu has lots of Fruity Favored and Hoppy beers on tap. If that is what you like, Lake Time Brewery is the place to go.
Neat indoor and outdoor environment; loved the patio. The beers were nothing special - easy drinkers, which is just fine. Our bartender was a bit standoffish and had no suggestions at all for us when we asked for food recommendations.
Good beers Out of the Hazy but took home a can IPA s were both good Very quaint brewery. Bartender was great. The next door neighbor to the brewery is a pure Not very nice person. I wanted to put a vernacular but it would not list so I didn't. But do not part anywhere close to his building cuz he will tell you that that's his parking lot. I knew his business I would post it. Anyways a very nice experience in all the people very nice. Yeah we were the ones with the RV. Thank you for being nice
Everything about this place was spot on. A nice variety of beers. I had a 4 sampler and the quality was excellent. Surprised how much I like the pumpkin latte beer, I'm more of an IPA guy. Plenty of outdoor seating. A food truck was serving up big baskets of onion rings, fries and other great snacky items.
Awesome beer! Super dog friendly. Great atmosphere inside and out.
Tiny brewery that makes for a great pitstop while traveling on 35. Unique brews and a broad selection.
