This place was a great deal and we got more than we expected. We stayed here on a trip to Jim Thorpe. The check in staff were friendly and professional and helped us resolve a booking issue positively. We made a reservation which included breakfast and the waterpark. While some areas of the waterpark weren't operating, their wave rider was and there were no extra fees or long lines which is rare for those. The breakfast buffet was one of the best I’ve ever seen at a hotel of any level.
I have been coming to Split Rock for over 20 years prior to moving to West Virginia 5 years ago. I was excited to see that they remodeled the rooms when I booked a trip. The reception was very nice but it went downhill from there. I was told that the elevator was down and would have to carry everything to the 3rd floor. I asked about plates and glasses not being in the kitchen (my friend arrived earlier and gave me a heads up). The receptionist explained that the weekend folks kept breaking them so it’s only available for timeshare owners. Ok, I get it. After lugging my suitcase up 3 flights of steps I open our room to see a windowless box with minimal air conditioning and the most uncomfortable living room I’ve ever experienced. Think straight-backed church pews with cushions. The beds were comfortable and the resort beautiful, but I will never come back again.
My friend and I booked a stay at the resort July 10 through the 17th 2025. It was her birthday and I wanted to surprise her. The surprise was on us when we got there and got a room. The room was so bad that when we asked for maintenance, there was no maintenance people on site so we had to clean a defrosting refrigerator. It was ice and water all over the refrigerator when we opened the refrigerator. Water was falling on the floor when we went to clean the refrigerator. The sink was so dirty. It was a silver sink that turned brown. We had to clean that the countertop the stove it was a mess then we find out we have no cable. Went to the desk to complain about everything there was nobody that could help us because there was no maintenance on site. The place was like a ghost town and in the rooms was dirty couldn’t get no linen. It was real bad. we wind up leaving two days early. That’s how bad it was. We didn’t get maintenance for the TVs for three days. So for you who have a membership or is looking to buy a membership from split rock don’t. They didn’t want to reimburse me nothing I couldn’t get no help from managers because the managers was barely on site. If they weren’t on site they was in a meeting they busy so therefore you couldn’t get any help from nobody, bad situation all the way around. So my warning to you, if you’re looking to buy into a resort, do not buy into split rock it’s the worst.
Resort had many errors upon arrival. I left a vape behind in which I have no problem picking up. Phone numbers don’t work. They randomly hang up on me. Can’t speak to anyone about the matter. No heat, fridge was damaged, no breakfast accommodations for the amount that was paid. Definitely was not worth my stay. I’m hoping my friend had a great birthday. But I felt it could have been better. Customers service is very poor. I called 2 different types of numbers to try and speak to someone about my property being returned but I can even get ahold of someone online. Customer service is disgusting. They aren’t helpful rather the complete opposite. Very unethical and incompetent. They don’t care about their customers. They have a nasty attitude. Do not waste your money in going here. Absolutely appalling and waste of money. Nothing enjoyable about this resort at all.
All the staff we interacted with were wonderful. Size of the time share rooms (2 bedroom ) were amazing. Building 6 rooms 3119 A/B. Rooms themselves, as you know are outdated. Clean, but outdated. New couches are desperately needed simply for comfort. They were incredibly firm and uncomfortable. We had a good stay all in all and the place would be amazing if remodeled. We really booked it for its proximity to Jim Thorpe and surrounding area.
I was extreme dissatisfied with my recent stay at Split Rock Poconos, Willowbrook. While I appreciate that the staff were friendly and helpful and that the breakfast buffet and service were excellent, the overall condition of the resort and accommodations was unacceptable. When we arrived at the building, I immediately noticed several issues: * The exterior was extremely dirty, with visible grime and algae, and the overhang was missing its aluminum covering. * Inside, there was a strong sewage odor and heavily stained carpeting throughout the halls. * Our unit contained bugs on the walls and ceiling, dirty and outdated appliances, and visible dirt on the bed. One wall even had a hole in it. * The in-room phone did not work. We were then moved to Building 6. Although the exterior appeared slightly cleaner, the overall condition was still disappointing. The entryway smelled unpleasant, lighting throughout was dim, and the furniture appeared decades old. The hallway carpets were stained, and trash was present on the floor. In our unit, the appliances and handles were grimy, the dining chairs were stained. The bathroom was poorly lit and visibly unclean, with stained fixtures and a damaged electrical socket that appeared to be burned—posing a potential safety hazard. The resort’s main recreational area was also in disrepair. Several bowling lanes were out of order, seats were ripped and dirty, and buckets had been placed to catch water leaking from the ceiling. These conditions made the amenities unusable.
I Love all the activities there are at split rock resort. I really enjoy the arcade and bowling alley. Me and my bf come every October for my birthday and we always have a great week here with everything there is to do here. A special shout out to Luis and Gerald for being amazing workers and always answering questions we have or if a machine is giving us issues they are there to help.
I was honestly prepared for the worst vacation spot of my life judging from the most recent reviews but we were happy with our little stay at Split Rock. Only the Town Center had the water problems and you can see by my photos that the staff had water out for people to drink there. The reception staff was so so nice and gave us a room at The Lodge and the water there comes from a different source per the staff. I brought my two young kids and they did not mind that the resort is in need of superficial updates and some tlc - they had a blast at the arcade and the water park and in the room which had a great view! The activities and bones are charming but it does need updating.

Big Boulder Ski Resort is a great spot for a day on the slopes, offering a surprising mix of terrain for a smaller mountain. Whether you’re a beginner or looking for more challenging runs, there’s something for everyone. I found the lodge is clean and well-maintained, providing a nice place to relax. The staff is friendly and accommodating, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. It was perfect for a quick ski trip.
My boyfriend and I took my kids (teenagers) snow tubing for the first time and this was such a great experience. The staff was attentive and helpful plus the mountain paths for snow tubing were so perfect. We all had a great time and definitely recommend this activity with your family or as a date! Next up, is to try and learn skiing!!
This place is great. The highlights are that this place had rails, and long and short ski slopes that are a good size. The sitting elevator to get to the top of the mountain was decently fast. The only bad thing is that there is some ice on some of the slopes. I highly recommend this.
Great place! Snow tubing and skiing. Reasonable price. Entertainment for the whole family. The concessions had a very low inventory. They should have more holiday drinks & snacks!
We love coming to Big Boulder for night skiing on weekdays. Lines are non-existent, the staff are super friendly and helpful, and they keep the trails covered with dusty powder. They offer tubing, but I haven't tried that yet. The mountain is right next to a lake, and it makes the view beautiful. Highly recommend this resort!
I have been visiting Big Boulder for over 20 years and now refuse to visit because I consider what Vail has done to this place abhorrent. Vail resorts took the small ski area that had the BEST culture in the mid Atlantic region, fired the staff, got rid of the terrain park, and essentially removed everything that made this place great. Just go to Shawnee. You'll get the same experience with better trails.
I visited Big Boulder for the first time on President’s Day weekend and was expecting to be disappointed. I say that as a skier who learned in Vermont as a kid and skied big mountains in Maine during college. Well, everything about my experience here was positive!! Went tubing the first night and had some good laughs but don’t think I’d do it again. The wait to go down was a bit long and cold when just standing there. Mainly did this as a family friendly activity. Conditions on the mountain were really good with fresh snow and cold weather. Having not skied in 20 years, I needed to rent some gear. This was easy and paid for before my trip. Staff in the rental area were all nice and helpful. Only took a couple minutes to get my gear and head to a lift - awesome. There was plenty of snow with little ice or slick conditions and not many people until around 12pm. Parking was easy as well, if you arrive early. That’s really key. If I’d go again then I’d get here when they open on a weekend otherwise, hit the slopes at night.
Update: now under the umbrella of Vail resorts, changes have been mixed. Some lifts have closed and others consolidated, but snowmaking seems more aggressive. More of a corporate mountain feel and less of a small independent mini-european ski area like in years past, but the rest of my original review stands. Beautiful scenery over the lake in winter. -- For what it is, Big Boulder is a staple classic Poconos ski area. It's a relatively small mountain, but it's got enough terrain to satisfy expert skiers for a day on the mountain. Snowmaking and night skiing round out the experience to ensure you'll be able to get your runs in. Four stars because it tends to fill up easily and quickly on busy weekends, and trail closures for the race program can occasionally be annoying, but they're also fun to watch. Food is expensive and limited. Lifts are slow but the small mountain means it's tolerable. Overall good experience every time.

A lovely waterfall a short distance from the parking lot. There is a trail that does go on, but fair warning, the full loop is pretty steep, rocky, rooted walk through.
I do not recommend this tail to anyone who wants to have fun. This trail and waterfall use to be so fun to bring my kids to have lunch and hang out for the day. Now there are 1,000 rules posted on every tree where you’re not allowed to do anything except stare at the trees. Rangers are super rude and ignorant. Drove an hour to only stay for 30 minutes because you can’t do anything
Falls are nice. A little busy and a little muddy when we went. The experience for us was a little marred by the tens of posted signs which prohibited just about anything our active daughter tried to do along the route. Luckily, there are other areas of Hickory Run which allow such behavior. Just be prepared to reign in your young ones constantly since this area would be wonderful to wade, climb, jump, and picnic at.
Waterfall and trail to get there are great. Despite there being signs everywhere to stay out of the water and stay on the trail, many people, to include parents with their kids, went in the water and off the trail. Hard to take pics of the falls with them in the way.
Easy hike, great for beginners or families, but it’s a rocky path and sometimes can be muddy, so be prepared. The view at the end is well worth it. One of my favorite spots!
It’s beautiful falls offered by nature in hickory run state park area. Parking is accessible , easy to park in and out. There were rangers posted to help redirecting the cars when one place is overflow. The one stare reduction due to there is no swimming , no picnicking , or not into waters if you bring your kids and wanted to get into water then there is no option for you. I understand the risk involved but still the place is irresistible to take a dip 🙂. Other wise the trail length to reach the falls is easily doable by many including small kids. The trail itself has not been paved and rocks , pebbles , muddy (not too bad)
Most definitely a must see waterfall, this is truly an easy trail. We have a 3 and a 5 year old - it was a breeze for them to go down and come back. I think the trail is 1.2 mi to the waterfall. Once you follow the trail and what seems like you got to the dead-end, follow the sign to the right to see the waterfall!
Such a beautiful waterfall . We loved the hike also . Highly recommend to check this place out . We had an amazing experience to do a praise dance for God in his creation .

We visited in winter. The snow-covered stones and peaceful scenery were stunning. A quiet, almost meditative experience — like stepping into a serene, frozen painting.
My daughters and I visited Hickory Run State Park today, and we visited Boulder Field. This field of boulders of all different shapes and sizes is very unique and is challenging to climb across. This field was estimated to be created over 20,000 years ago and is a unique geological formation. This is a National Natural Landmark with most boulder depth about 10-12 feet in some places. There are spiders among the rocks also, and you may see snakes as well. I recommend visiting Boulder Field and climbing carefully across the field. I also recommend finding a nice sturdy walking stick for balance in the woods near the entrance for the field.
We visited Hickory Run Boulder Field yesterday and were amazed by how unique it is. Imagine an ocean of rocks stretching endlessly — silent, still, and strangely beautiful. Most of us really enjoyed it; it’s peaceful yet otherworldly. Great spot for photos, too! History: The Boulder Field was formed during the last Ice Age, over 12,000 years ago. As glaciers advanced and retreated, they cracked the sandstone on nearby ridges and carried the rocks downhill. The result is this massive 16-acre natural field — up to 12 feet deep — preserved exactly as nature left it. It’s been a National Natural Landmark since 1967. If you’re in the Poconos, this is a must-see stop — a quiet reminder of the Earth’s ancient story.
Visited recently on a Saturday and it was very crowded. Would recomend going first thing in the AM or late afternoon/evening. Also thought it would be much larger boulders. My kids said there were larger ones further out, but the majority were not ones you would stand on with two feet, so a real workout for the ankles. Great family spot, kids loved it and I was mesmerized just looking at it trying to fathom how it was there. So cool!
This place feels other worldly. We were able to drive right up to the boulder field parking lot, no hiking required. The drive in is 3-4 miles on a well graded dirt road passable by any vehicle. It is a one way loop for most of the way. We only ventured a few feet into the boulders. The footing is not great and the boulders move. A few adventurous souls walked all the way across the field. This is definitely worth a visit. No fee to enter this park
As a rock and fossil lover this place was amazing. Lots of people started showing up around 10am but very peaceful before that!
Visited in June of this year on a Sunday. My friend and I were pretty much the only ones there, and crossed the boulder field, soaking up its beauty when this black bear popped out of the woods and walked his way the whole way across the field. Was an amazing experience. The bear didn't threaten us or seem to mind we were there. 10/10
This place was breathtaking, it was like a sea of boulders. It was beautiful, definitely would recommend. Make sure to wear your hiking shoes.

A great place for family fun. I love kayaking and with all the speed boats around creating big waves make it really fun. Easy rentals.
It was cool, but the boats are hard to steer, and we're not allowed to drift in the lake. They ask you to stay off to the side for the larger boats, and it's difficult
We were looking for somewhere to rent kayaks in the area and luckily stumbled upon this place. Getting ready to go was nice and quick. We were given lifejackets, received help getting into our kayaks and once we were given the rules, we were off! One of our friends had never been kayaking before and she had a blast! :) You do have to stay along the sides of the lake due to the center being for boats but this didn't affect our experience at all. The staff was super friendly and kind. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a place to rent water items for a time. The pricing was good too!
They have kayaks, peddle boats and boards and the staff is super friendly! They have bottled water and chips for purchase. Thank you so much!
A bit expensive for a paddle boat rides... but isnt these days... other then that... the lake was awesome
Captain Fabian was a gentleman and very knowledgeable about Lake Harmony. Our trip around the lake was both informative and very relaxing. He gave everyone a sense of how unique Lake Harmony is and made all of us feel safe and secure on his boat. Everyone should take the tour around the lake while in Split Rock.
Very nice staff. $20 a person on a Sunday for an hour: beautiful lake experience.
The pontoon boat tour was so relaxing and Captain Fabian was layed back and gave us a knowledgable trip around Lake Harmony. He answered our questions and definitely I recommend this excursion. The kayak rental earlier was also handled with professional and polite service.
