This is a good area for a cup of coffee, support some local business, grocery shopping and a little walk in the boardwalk along the Fraser River. There are many good restaurants in this area. I am sure you will find one that you like. Such as Craft Cafe, Angelina's Dutch Corner, The Boathouse, Re Up BBQ Bar, Longtail Kitchen and the food court. Almost all the restaurants have nice river view. The only down side is you have to pay parking for your stay. It costs about $3.58 per hour. There are lots of underground parking and close to the Market and restaurants. You can use public transit getting there. It takes a few minutes walk from the New Westminster Station. It was free parking long time ago. There are lots of high rises in the area now but it will not block the view from the Market.
A perfect spot for a relaxing walk with beautiful river views! River Market is such a gem in New West. Whether you're grabbing a coffee or just out for a stroll, the walkway along the Fraser River is peaceful, scenic, and full of charm. The boardwalk offers amazing views, and there's something calming about watching the tugboats and water taxis go by. Plenty of benches to sit and relax, and the market itself has a great mix of local eats and little shops. It’s a great place for families, couples, or anyone who just wants to slow down and enjoy the waterfront vibe. Highly recommend a visit — especially around sunset!
Walking through the River Market was interesting. It was not as exciting as the other places I have checked in Vancouver and none of the places really grasped my attention. However, I do like to go to that Angelina's Dutch restaurant the next time I come here. The place does have a good sight of the river from the upper balcony and stairs.
Nice market with a artsy eclectic boutique middle class vibe. Free WIFI, variety of food f drinks. Outdoor seating too and right near beside the water seawall. I come here whenever I’m in new west, or passing through on the skytrain sometimes, it’s excellent for people watching and inspiration. There is even cheap entertainment with a couple pinball and arcade games on the upper floor. Within walking distance of the skytrain even. It’s an important part of downtown New Westminster.
They have a wide variety of menu items, Nice ocean view. There was only one staff member, but everything was prepared quickly.
Nice water front area hosting a variety of eatries, grocery shop, kids entertainment, book shop etc. Overall a nice place to spend time with a walk in the picturesque riverside trail. Presently construction work is underway which restricts the movement slightly. Visit here with family and friends to have a good time.
Highly acceptable in terms of wide assortment of food items - fruits, fruit juice, soft drinks, pizza, cheese, cakes, food-desert-items, other edible & food preparation items and the like, River Market, being placed on bank of Frajer river, offers many agricultural items - fruits, vegetables & related items with fresh status & in good prices - that reflects attraction to the buyers - nature lovers - who visit here & get associated with the river, it's wide expanse of water, boats & ships moving through water, gentle breeze, warm weather, summer-being-tolerably-heated in a less humid weather, walking trail alongside flowery plants & greeneries alongside river water, flyong birds over head & water - amazingly hypnotizing view.
Has improved so much. Now have 3 wonderful game books and toys shops, many more food options. There's a good large grocery market. And the whole area around is nice for a walk along the river. Very nice artsy mall for chocolate, soaps, oils and regular stuff. On the water front so nice stop in while strolling along.

This park is a fantastic place to visit, offering both scenic views and meaningful architecture. You can enjoy stunning sights of the bridge and Fraser River, making it a great spot for photography. The playground is a highlight, with a large slide that kids absolutely love. It's a perfect blend of natural beauty and fun activities for the whole family!
We came here once in March. It was a good experience. This time we had a car. We found that there was no free parking nearby, and there was no free parking on the nearby streets. The park is beautiful, but all kinds of people come here. Later, three policemen came here to check for suspicious people.
I recently experienced the vibrant atmosphere of New Westminster Pier Park, and it was fantastic! The park hosted a free music show that brought the place to life. Families gathered, and children played on the grassy area while enjoying the tunes. The presence of food trucks and a snack shop offered a variety of delicious treats to satisfy any craving. What I loved most was the opportunity to chill out by the sea, feeling the cool breeze and admiring the panoramic views. It's a perfect spot to relax, enjoy live music, and create lasting memories in a beautiful waterfront setting.
Overall a decent park. On google maps it appears bigger than it actually is, haha. This park is lowkey, away from the bigger streets like Colombia st and greenway. Many spots to hangout, sit, and overall lots of open space. Good view of the ocean and pattulo bridge. They also have restrooms for convenience, and a little pier shack which likely opens in summer!
Westminster Pier Park is a fantastic place to spend quality time with your family and enjoy a game of basketball. The park is well-maintained, and the facilities are in excellent condition. The basketball court is a great attraction for those who enjoy playing the sport, and there is plenty of space for everyone to participate. The park also has ample parking, making it convenient for visitors to park their vehicles. However, it should be noted that parking is not free and may be a minor inconvenience for some visitors. Overall, Westminster Pier Park is a must-visit for families and sports enthusiasts. The park provides a fun, safe, and enjoyable environment for people of all ages to enjoy. If you are looking for a place to spend quality time with your loved ones, Westminster Pier Park is an excellent choice.
Beautiful, well-maintained, long path to walk on at the New Westminster waterfront. Accessible from both New Westminster and Columbia skytrain stations. There are lots of seating, beautiful flowers, and shops along the path. There are some shade from the trees. Perfect place to bring your family or a loved one.
Lots to enjoy for all ages on this scenic river esplanade.I really enjoyed the historical pictures installation. The brief explanation gives you a sense of living back in the old days! The river district is in full construction mode with development on the edge of the shoreline. The kids area is a complete fun world of everything they could want.
Very nice Pier for an afternoon/evening walk, there washroom in the small shop in the entrance, clean and small playground kids area for fun. People do picnics and there is a lot of greenery and benches to grab a spot with your companion. I am new to the area so will definitely visit again soon. Dog-friendly for sure.

Beautiful open plaza and impressive sculpture! It's located at the bottom of the pedestrian bridge that connects to the River Market.
"Wait for Me, Daddy" is the iconic photo taken by Claude P. Dettloff on October 1, 1940. It depicts Warren "Whitey" Bernard and his parents Bernice and Jack Bernard as the family was about to be separated by war. You'll see the mother's outstretched hand and the boy's hair as he reached out to his father who was marching off to war. While that particular regiment had 122 officers and men killed during the war, Whitey's dad survived and came home in October 1945. The City of New Westminster commissioned the bronze statue and it is placed at the bottom of 8th Street in Hyack Square. It was unveiled on October 4, 2014.
Claude P. Dettloff, a photographer for the Province newspaper unexpectedly caught the moment that would become an iconic war photo. Little Warren chasing after his father, a private in the Duke of Connaught's Rifles, after breaking the clutch of his mother's hand would become a photo recognized around the world. The bronze and stainless steel sculpture was created by Spanish artist Veronica De Nogales and Canadian Edwin Timothy Dam. Unveiled in 2014. Hyack Square was renovated in 2009 to celebrate the city's 150th anniversary.
This made me think of the dads and sacrifices they make for the next generations.
I love this sculpture. It's the best.

My co-workers and I love to visit the Red Bar Lounge because they've got great live bands on weekends. It's our one way of unwinding and spending bonding moments with each other while enjoying their food, too. I tried their seafood linguini, and they're surprisingly taste great! Would love to order it again next time.
Music was not too loud! And slots machines seems decent! Also I won here so I give it 4 stars!
There are not many changes in this location, primarily consisting of a gathering of middle-aged individuals, a consistent band lineup, and a lack of food options. The ambiance is rather monotonous, and I would not recommend it to anyone. Please note, this is merely my personal opinion, and I apologize if it offends anyone. However, I must commend the casino for its excellent service.
I went to the Starlight casino with some friends for the first time in years. The band famous players was on that night. I wish I had the words to describe how amazing they are! From their talented voices to the theatrics and drama on stage , it was incredible. The chemistry between the two lead singers kept all of us engaged. The dance floor was full at all times. If you want a good night out with some good music, I would strongly recommend the Starlight lounge when famous players is scheduled. Unfortunately, I wish I could say the same for the service and the food. I had the South Beach salad . My avocado was brown on places and I asked for Caesar dressing and I got mayonnaise. One. I spoke to the waitress. Said she would bring me ranch. The waitress was very sweet but not very good at her job! She would take one order, walk away, do that, and then come back and dig another order as opposed to taking all of our orders and requests at the same time. She would bring us our food but not come back and ask us if we needed anything and we would have to literally wave her down. At times people waited in extremely long time to have coffee, refilled or even another drink order. Because the band was so amazing. I will go back to the Starlight lounge. Probably not to eat!
I had an absolutely horrible experience at the Red Bar during my recent visit to the casino. After enjoying some time on the casino floor, my friends and I headed to Red Bar for live music and drinks. Around 11:40 PM, we noticed several open seats and patrons either leaving or dancing, so we decided to sit and enjoy the atmosphere.l after checking with neighbouring party. To our shock, we were immediately confronted by a server—not greeted, not welcomed, not offered a menu or drink service, but instead met with an aggressive attitude and a condescending tone. The very first words out of her mouth were: “You have to spend $25 to sit here.” No hello, no explanation, just blatant hostility. We had already spent over $80 at the bar minutes prior, yet this server treated us as if we were an inconvenience. Her demeanor was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. It made us feel unwelcome and disrespected. Having previously worked in a restaurant within a casino myself, I was appalled—this level of service was far below any acceptable standard. The experience was so negative that I would never recommend this place to anyone. The server’s behavior cast a shadow over what should have been a fun and enjoyable night. The only saving grace was the excellent bar staff—friendly, fast, and professional—and the live band, which brought great energy to the space. Unfortunately, even their efforts couldn't make up for the terrible treatment we received from the server. This kind of service is unacceptable, especially in a venue connected to a reputable casino. I hope management addresses this issue seriously.
I had a fantastic experience at the restaurant in Starlight Casino. Although finding the main entrance was a bit tricky, the moment I walked in, Terry the bartender warmly greeted me and offered a menu. Since I didn’t have my glasses, he kindly helped me choose a meal. I requested a chicken burger on a whole wheat bun, which wasn’t on the menu, but Terry accommodated my request without hesitation. The meal was excellent and served promptly. Terry checked in on me several times, adding to the positive experience. I highly recommend this place for a great lunch!
Redbar Lounge, Noodles To Go, Front Desk and the Casino have friendly and efficient Staff. Sandy, Nick, Dela, Shanelle, Carol and others offer great, world-class customer service! I love their different bands: Coco Project, Famous Players and Electric Ballroom, who put the massive dance floor to good use. If Redbar Lounge can offer new and better choices on the menu, that'd be perfecto!
I came here for lunch on Sunday. It's a reasonable price for $22. The one you have to try: Asian Stew Beef, Asian stew park with black bean, corn soup and potato salad. Eggs is also great which is right time cooked with soft and fresh taste. Bacon is not so well, and it's over cooked and too dry. I came to Riverock and Delta casino for buffet before, and I have to say Starlight is the best of those three. Starlight buffet does not have too many people which I can really enjoy the meal. The working people there are really friendly with nice smile and warm welcome. They even become old friends with some customers. So, I give 5 stars. If Starlight Casino can see this, please say thank you for me to those nice persons. And see you soon!
