We come to Bahia Principe Grand El Portillo in Samaná every year. It’s a hidden paradise, perfect for those seeking exclusivity, tranquility, and a next-level experience. From the breathtaking landscapes to the crystal clear waters, this resort has everything you need for a dream vacation. And let me tell you something: you won’t need the pool, because with beaches like these, you simply don’t. What truly makes this place special isn’t just its beauty, it’s the people. We want to sincerely thank Karina from customer service, who always greets us with a smile, kindness, and great attention. She listens carefully to every request and makes sure everything goes perfectly. Her dedication and warmth make us feel right at home every time we return. The hotel is truly five stars: delicious food, comfortable rooms, a stunning environment, and excellent service. The natural beauty of Samaná, combined with the warmth of the staff, makes this place a true paradise. Bahia Principe Grand El Portillo is the perfect destination for those seeking quality time, a beautiful beach, and an unmatched atmosphere. We always leave feeling refreshed and already counting the days until we return.
The bar at Bahia Principe Grand El Portillo truly made our vacation unforgettable! The bartenders greeted us with big smiles, incredible energy, and even remembered our names and favorite drinks by the second day — it felt like family. Every cocktail was perfect — from refreshing mojitos to creamy piña coladas. The vibe was always fun and relaxed, with great music and amazing service from Yan Carlos Aka El Flacooo 10/10! Also from Jorge, Alba and Rosa ☺️👏 The staff go above and beyond — they don’t just make drinks, they create an experience. If you visit Bahia Principe Grand El Portillo, don’t miss the bar — it’s the heart of the resort and one of the best parts of the trip! 🍹✨
This is our 5th time to this resort what more can I say. The entertainment staff are so friendly, amazing, full of energy & most of all very entertaining. The beach is awesone with snorkling around a coral reef meteres from the shore. All the staff are friendly & take care of all your needs. The only draw back are the rooms. They need major renovations. The rooms have not been updated since my first stay. A paint job is not what they need, they need a full demolition & remodrling like their resorts in Punta Cana. Overall it was once again an awesome trip.
The resort grounds are beautiful and so we'll kept! The rooms are very spacious and clean, theyre just dated and it's showing it's age. The staff are FABULOUS, from the moment they arrived they were great. The buffet food was just okay and after a week it gets to be a bit much, saying that the restaurant itsrlf is lovely and having the a la carte options for 3 nights is great and the restaurants were very good! The location is very pretty it's a lovely beach, but you really are not close to much, you'll have to rent a car or get a taxi into town which is not cheap, but if youre not doing it every day it's worth the trip. All in all it was a really good stay!! With the staff being it's greatest asset!!
Nice Resort, compact in size, something that makes it very confortable with short walks from the rooms to the beach passing thru all the complex takes you no more than five minutes walking. Amazing beach with no other hotels or resorts on its sides, warm, clear and clean water with no Seaweeds. Main restaurant ( Breakfast / Lunch and Dinner buffets) Restaurante El limon with plenty of food options during seven days, waiter service is random but acceptable, nice furniture and plenty of places in and out. Rooms are basic, even Junior Suites, bathrooms outdated with plenty of details to talk about ... but were functional for their purpose. Swimingpool is really good but the sunshades ( big Umbrellas) are not, too small in diameter and do not protect against sun or heat. Beach is amazing, very clean, the sand is cleaned every morning. Unfortunately most of the guest reserve the shades before going to breakfast and the no reservation policy is a joke as no staff member takes care of it ... Good reception and guest relations service everytime we needed. Thematic restaurants with too cold temparatures and no big deal in food quality, they try to cause a good impression but the food quality is not on pair with the thematics ... All in all a nice place to be. The only reaaly bad thing are the rooms very close to the main road and the industrial facility, it is awfully noisy until at least 10:30 / 11:00 pm, no one could even use the room balcony due to the noise levels. Edit: The entertainment team is very good, nice people, fun and welcoming.
The entertainment staff was amazing specially Victor. The staff is what makes this hotel good to go to as there are amazing. The property in beautiful The beachbis amazing the pool is clean, the sports bar is great to relax and have drinks. But I will say the rooms are very outdated ac wasn't working in our 1st room and had a horrible odor .. our 2nd room was slightly better but had a bad sewer odor the bathroom was falling apart a bunch of rust fell from under the bathroom sink the toilet had a leak and there were roaches in the bathroom. But I will say the staff made it for it all as there so friendly and accommodating..
Great location, near town if you want to go and explore. The beach is beautiful, those bright blue waters that I think everyone wants to see in their life! There are areas in the resort that are louder and more energetic if that's your vibe - for us we wanted to be in quieter areas, and there was space for that. There's a quiet pool for anyone that doesn't want the craziness of the big pool at the front of the resort, and you can walk along the beach and find quiet areas where you can just relax! Everyone is lovely, we have had an amazing time!
I visited this hotel at the beginning of October 2025 with my family. We upgraded our room to be closer to the pool and buffet restaurant, which I highly recommend for guests with reduced mobility. However, the air conditioning in the room was not very effective; it was quite hot and made it somewhat difficult to sleep at night. The buffet restaurant was excellent, offering a good variety of dishes every day, which is not always common in buffet-style dining. The hotel has a dedicated kids’ pool with water slides and a smaller pool area for children right next to the adult pool, which is very convenient. Unfortunately, the smaller kids’ pool was problematic because swim diapers were not mandatory, and some babies soiled the pool, forcing it to close regularly. Swim diapers should be mandatory to prevent this issue. All the bartenders and restaurant staff were very friendly, and the nightly shows were also very entertaining.

A beautiful place down the end of a quiet beach. This is a special beach for me because there is shade here in the ocean in the afternoon in front of a hill. There are many nice restaurants you can walk to very easy. Also there is a river here to swim in. There is also a trail to a secret beach you can find. I highly recommend this place.
One of the most beautiful beach we have ever been in.
Excellent, beautiful, perfect

Completely virgin beach. Locals cut some coconuts down for us. You have to learn to overlook the plastic washed on the beach. It hurts to see it I really wish the local government would do something about it. But otherwise, a beautiful place.
Playa Morón is one of the most peaceful and underrated beaches in the Samaná Peninsula—a true hidden gem. Surrounded by lush greenery and gently swaying palms, the beach offers golden sand, calm turquoise waters, and a serene, untouched atmosphere that's perfect for those looking to escape the tourist crowds. There are no large hotels or developments here, just a few small local food shacks and fishermen’s boats, which adds to the authentic Dominican charm. It's an ideal spot for swimming, relaxing under a tree, or walking along the wide, quiet shoreline. The access road is a bit rough, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended, but the effort is absolutely worth it. If you're visiting Las Terrenas or El Limón, don’t miss Playa Morón—it’s the kind of beach you dream of when you picture the Caribbean at its most natural and unspoiled.
One of the most beautiful beaches I've visited in the D.R. A very relaxing and layed back atmosphere. I loved this beach.
Terrenas Samana has some of the best beaches in Dominican republic. And NO sarcasm
Great beach. The water was clear and got deep quickly. I was told the waves can pull you out so be careful with that. I didn’t experience it when I swam there so just be mindful if you go out and can get carried away while swimming. I had my swimming goggles and saw many fishes. I was surrounded by more than 100 little curious silver fishes. The water is cold and refreshing. There were barely any waves when I visited. There is a hotel there on the cliff overlooking the ocean, there was no one there when I was in the water.
Fantastic beach, take your ATV on the coast from LT and enjoy huge waves and beautiful views, the waves are big be careful
Beautiful beach we were the only ones there until a local passed us by on a horse who was super nice and went on his way. There is a road that leads you to a walking path directly to the beach its about a 2 minute walk. You do lose service on the way. The beach was clean suprisingly after the semana santa week which gets crazy
Beautiful quiet beach. One of the best in the DR. There’s a nice restaurant, el Limón, at the end of the beach

It’s a really nice beach. I’ve been twice and always a good experience. There’s parking, food and drinks available upon request, and just a peaceful atmosphere overall. I was initially a few feet down the road and in that spot the waves were a bit rough, so I decided to walk a few minutes down to Playa Punta Popy and the water was a lot calmer. I could get in with no issues.
Playa Punta Popy is a vibrant and lively beach located at the eastern end of Las Terrenas, known for its colorful mix of kite surfers, beach bars, and palm-lined scenery. The water is shallow and clear, great for swimming and water sports, while the constant breeze makes it one of the top kiteboarding spots in the area. Along the beachfront, you’ll find several small restaurants and lounges offering everything from Dominican seafood to cocktails and smoothies. The vibe here is youthful and energetic during the day, but it calms down beautifully at sunset. Whether you're looking for a relaxed beach day, a casual drink by the water, or an afternoon of adventure, Punta Popy blends tropical beauty with the social buzz of Las Terrenas life.
Punta Popi Beach in Los Terrenas is a beautiful, peaceful spot with a little something for everyone. The water is crystal clear and calm, perfect for swimming, and there are plenty of shaded areas to escape the sun. If you’re on the point, you’ll get a nice breeze, which keeps things comfortable. On the eastern side, the wind picks up a bit, making it a great spot for kitesurfing. No big waves here—just a relaxed, scenic beach that’s perfect for unwinding or enjoying the ocean in whatever way you like.
Nice beach if you’re walking distance there. I went for convenience but there are other beaches if you can drive. There wasn’t vendors for food & drinks sold here unless you wanted a large plate. Lots of locals go on weekends for a day trip. Beach was a bit crowded on Sundays.
Nice, but there was a sandstorm that made it a bit uncomfortable for us. During August I came and it was BEAUTIFUL! The water was warm, blue and so much fun! It really depends on the season.
A great place to hang out! You can rent beach chairs (250-300 pesos each), or just lie on your towel. Punta Popy is full of palm trees, so you can always find shade. Because it’s a point, you can swim on the east or west side, depending on the waves. The sand is nice, and you can walk right into the water on pure sand (no stones). There is often a massage person there (Lourdes), who does a great massage for $40us/hour. On windy days, you can watch the many kite-surfers who come out to learn or jump the waves… great entertainment. There are restaurants nearby to get lunch or a drink and if you leave your towel on the chair, it will be held for you. It’s a great place to go, as there is always somewhere good to hang out, no matter the weather (not rain 😂).
Access to boat rentals by the beach, many restaurants and friendly people :)
This might be one of the best beaches in the area, because is never crowded, water super clear, the right temperature, and there is never waves. Recommend. Bring some food and enjoy the day and possibly sunset! These photos were probably about 1/4 of a mile from the point. So there's no need to stay in the point. Scout an empty area and you will be all set!

My favorite beach in December. Waves not too big for kids so it’s family friendly. Not a lot of people. Public beach cleaned probably as it’s also partly used by a big hotel. Plenty of beautiful sand and palm trees.
Coson (32000, near Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic) is a beach that captivates with its pristine beauty and atmosphere of tranquility. ✨ This beach is a real find for those who are tired of the hustle and bustle and dream of being alone with nature. 🌴 Here you will find an endless coastline covered with soft sand, azure waves gently caressing the shore, and coconut palms creating a pleasant shade. ☀️ Coson is a unique beach that has retained its wild nature. There are no crowds of tourists and loud music here. 😌 Just you, the ocean and the sky. 🌊 Of course, there are several private villas and one beach club restaurant on the beach, but they do not violate the general atmosphere of privacy and tranquility. 🏡 If you want to take a break from the hustle and bustle, enjoy the silence and admire the beauty of nature, then Coson is the perfect place for you. 👍 Highly recommend! #Coson #LasTerrenas #DominicanRepublic #beach #silence #privacy #beauty #nature #relax #recommend
This is one of the best beaches in the area. I particularly like it in the summertime when the waves are small. If you go in the winter time there a larger waves which is good if you like surfing. This is a beautiful Long Beach that sells for many miles spend the whole day exploring. There are a few restaurants along the way including Luis’s restaurant. This is probably one of the most popular beaches in this area I highly recommend you check it out.
Gorgeous beach, its very long and often empty, we had it to ourselves! The water is beautiful and calm and the cold current of Coson river meets it at some point, so its very nice!!! Also the white sand feels like a carpet, very thin and soft! You can take very pretty photos here specially with the palm trees!
Quiet beach area with stores within walking distance. Food vendors near the beach as well as an outdoor gym.
Quiet beach with a great restaurant with Fresh fish and lobster. Nice sandbar surf break and doesn’t draw a lot of people b/c of close by Playa Bonita. Hidden Gem! One of our families favorites. Great little surf shack where you can rent boards. 🤙🏻
Super super nice beach. Without the seaweed this is in my top three beaches worldwide. It is very quiet but not dangerously quiet. There's two or three restaurants to choose from (my favourite being the reasonably priced one at the far east of the beach), and multiple roads to reach the beach. The best road is the one leading to Caffè Coson and you can use a moped easily. It's a beautiful beach with a nice curve, mix of wave strengths (be careful, there's extremely strong currents in some places), palm trees, and a river that changes shape every day. When I went (Dec 2022) there was a bit of seaweed (like everywhere in DR) but seemingly not as much as Playa Bonita. I recommend you set up camp near the river somewhere - you can get there on two wheels if you're a confident rider!
Truly beautiful, exceptionally long beach, postcard perfect. This is what real Paradise looks like. Enjoy it before the development kicks in.
