Dropped in for afternoon tea and had a delicious chocolate brownie and zesty lemon tart. Coffee was also the best we've had since arriving in Napier a few days ago, nice and strong. The grounds / gardens are nice to walk around in aswell.
Lovely high tea for a baby shower in the garden room today - a fantastic menu too. The sandwiches were delicious, as were the brownies and cake made for the event. The atmosphere was great - not too crowded, warm and bright with a gorgeous table setting. We couldnt finish all the food on each tower between a few of us! Couldn't recommend it more.
Birdwoods Café is a gem—delightful food served fresh and full of flavour, paired with a wonderful environment to wander through. The gardens and gallery make it more than just a café stop, it’s a whole experience.
Staff were so accommodating and friendly as we showed up without a reservation and the staff were so kind to set us up a table (thank you). The atmosphere & scenes were stunning. The food was so tasty & wholesome. Would absolutely return & recommend to anybody thats never been or planning to go.
Incredible place to stop off at...the sweet store alone is worth it! We only got drinks from the cafe/restaurant however the service was incredible! Easy parking, clean toilets, plenty of beautiful gardens for the kids to explore and art sculptures to admire. Plus you can feed the Ostrich! A very cool place to visit for a quick catch up or family outing...defs worth the effort if you're holidaying and looking for something a bit different yet fun!!
Other than having to sitout in the, The garden room, nice setting, just a bit cold when wet, service great just a bit too long to take our order. Otherwise 100% recommended to visit even just for the sweet store.
Wonderful our multi generation family group loved the relaxed feel, wonderful lunch and beautiful gardens. Space for kids to play, not to be missed if travelling to Hawkes Bay
This is a lovely spot. Amazing sculpture garden and we loved the old fashioned sweet shop. Well worth a visit!

I really loved this place. The staff was extremely amazing. The place shows the entire process of how honey is made. Great learning experience for kids. Plenty of marking available at this place. The best park is you can look at the bees hatching. Information videos are played throughout. Bit of history to this place too which is quite great. Honey tasting is free which is a best part. Plenty of options to purchase honey or other items. The prices of honey are quite reasonable too. Will definitely return back.
An absolute gem of a place! Arataki Honey is a must-visit if you're anywhere near the area. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and the whole experience was both fun and educational. I loved learning about the honey-making process and the important role bees play in the environment. The tasting section was amazing. so many delicious varieties of honey to try! The shop is beautifully set up, offering everything from honey products to skincare and gifts. Great for families, tourists, or anyone with a sweet tooth. Highly recommend!
Plenty of products from bee here to buy, but the price was a bit high, as it's quite tourist. Very informative place, everythimg about bee and honey collections. Many interactive activities for people to learn.
Love coming to this place when we come to visit friends 💕 in the area. Love the range of honey you sell. Always love your creamed manuka honey & today bought half creamed Manuka & half Borage honey in one container. The taste is exceptional! Service by the ladies at the counter was fantastic. Thank you ❤️
Love this place, great honey fix! Lots of gift ideas, and yummy honey treats. Very helpful staff and something for everyone.
A delightful stop for honey lovers! The shop is well-stocked with locally produced honey, skincare, and gifts. I like how we taste the variety of honey and there’s tick list for the visitors to use for the different flavours. A sweet experience for the whole family — both educational and delicious!
Fabulous place. If you're ever in Hastings and Havelock North? You must pop out to the Arataki Honey Centre. Play spot the Queen Bee in the hives. We spotted 2 out of the 5 hives operating. Try the Hot Chilli Honey, QR Code with recipes attached to the bottle.
Kids loved it. Was quite busy and hard to see some parts of it so as kids don't wait well, we missed a couple parts, but apart from that, highly recommend!! Wee kids play area great for the younger ones and the handouts /material was fab.

Te Mata was the first winery we visited on our three week trip around New Zealand. The first of 20. And it was, by far, one of the most personal and informative. We had the pleasure of a personal tasting with Zara Buck, a member of the family, who grew up on the vineyard. The wine is excellent, and we especially enjoyed the stories about the names given to some of the varieties. Even the Highland coos have a story. We highly recommend making an appointment for a tasting. But, at the very least, stop at the cellar door.
We had a great tasting experience and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Gamay Noir was a hit
Our wine tasting at Te Mata was a lovely experience. The lady that served us was very friendly, informing us of the history of the area and the estate. We had a lovely chat whilst trying some beautiful wines. My son loved seeing the sheep and highland cows.
Nice wine, easy quick tasting on your road to biking or visiting wineries in the area.
We came from Wellington and had the pleasure of having Jason talks us through the Te Mata history and wines. His enthusiasm and passion definitely shone through. We had such a good time and would recommend to anyone who wants more of an experience than just sitting having a wine.
Rude staff. Cellar door hours say it’s open till 4pm so when you rock up at 310 and get told it’s too late to taste we can’t squeeze you in it’s pretty poor. Am sure the owners were nowhere to be seen as why would you knock back someone about to spend a lot of money?
Wine cellar closed during their opening hours. Very disappointing, specially since you cannot make a booking. I understand unplanned closures can impact a business, but nothing in your website indicates reduced hours.
We loved our time at Te Mata today. Maddy was friendly and knowledgeable. Great experience

Maraetotara Falls is an absolute gem – stunning scenery, crystal-clear water, and such a peaceful spot to reconnect with nature. It’s not super well signposted, so take your time – the best access point is the third clearing, where a short track leads you straight to the falls. Definitely worth the extra few minutes to find it! The water is beautiful and refreshing – perfect for a swim. There are a couple of great jumping spots if you’re up for it, though it’s definitely at your own risk, so take extra care if you’ve got young kids with you. The track down is short and manageable but can get slippery when wet, so good footwear is a must. Sadly, I did notice some rubbish left behind – I picked up what I could and binned it properly. Places like this deserve to be cherished and respected. I imagine in summer it turns into a hot hive of activity – but even in the off-season, it’s well worth the visit. A real Hawke’s Bay treasure.
we decided to start from the lower/first car park beside the toilet and it was awesome 😍 the nature is beautiful on a nice day - everything so green and the path goes beside the river with extremely clear water ✨️ and after a few minutes you arrive at the falls that look like a photo setup 😊
Absolutely not worth spending the time to visit it. I could not recommend going somewhere less and I've been to Birmingham. Also, much like Birmingham, it's pretty stinky.
Looks like it will be a great spot in the summer... Not much to do when it's raining!
Absolutely stunning spot! Park by the toilets and walk down which takes you to the base of the waterfall. Big area for swimming. Water was icey cold but so clear! Watch small dogs though as I saw one almost swept down stream.
Lovely place. Just a short walk of 5 mins from the parking on the road. There is a bit of fall in your walk so please make sure to be careful. Great for swimming.
35 minutes drive from Napier and 20 minutes from Hastings. 5 minutes walk from car park to the waterfall. Water was little bit cold, but there were plenty of people who swam. Recommend this place to those who are nearby. We didn't see anybody who tried that famous rope.
There is 2 car park areas, 1 has a toilet but is 500m or so walk to waterfall and swimming area. The other car park (in pics) is 30m walk to waterfall and swimming area where you can jump off of the lower part of the waterfall or jump off or use the swing, nice and cold IG📷_leon_04

My son had the most fabulous experience. The volunteers went out of their way to show him how the signal box worked and we rode on so many amazing engines, with a number of visiting engines. Well organised. Coffee and ice cream trucks added to the family day out experience
Very nice place to have with kids and all age groups..
Awesome experience for young and old alike. Very well run, volunteers all happy and friendly. Steam train was a particular treat. $2 tickets or 12 rides for $20. Fairly short wait times with lots of trains running.
Fabulous miniature train set up in Havelock North. The length of the ride is very decent, and there are lots of features like a viaduct, several bridges and tunnels to enjoy. There are multiple trains running at once, so when if it's busy you're not waiting too long for a ride... This is so important when you have toddlers. The fares are very reasonable, especially given the amount of work that would have gone on to develop the railway in the first place. The whole thing is run by volunteers, which is impressive, but also I guess allows the fares to be as low as they are. The only issue we had was nothing to do with the set up itself, but by selfish people who can't be bothered waiting their turn. That was a minority though, as most people there were well behaved, and very respectable. We had a great time there, despite having to tell 2 toddlers it was time to go, and they couldn't ride the trains any more. Highly recommend coming here if you're a miniature train enthusiast, or if you have young kids, as you won't be disappointed.
Great place to walk a dog. Off leash and on leash areas. Be wary that there are no signs between on and off leash. On leash areas have railway tracks so need to be careful. Train Tracks look amazing and would be great for kids. Miniature town with tunnels and bridges. Be nice if there was more native bush
At $2 a ride or $20 concession ticket for 12 rides this is one of the few affordable things to do with your children/grandchildren. The people that run this are very kind and friendly. Thoroughly recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The ride is fun, even my group is all adults,. so if you have children, they more joy. Especially they have discount tickets, buy 12 for $15.00, otherwise $2.00 for single ticket. Keirunga Park is a garden too, so you can walk the garden before or after.
I'm very impressed. This park should suit all people. Has alot to offer.
