We hiked to the summit of Mt. Kosciuszko (2,228 meters), Australia’s highest peak! Starting from Thredbo Village, the walk to the Eagle Nest chairlift station (1,927 meters) was pleasant, thanks to well-maintained paths and favourable weather—just light winds.
Be mindful of downhill bike trails along the route. From the Eagle Nest, we continued about 6 kilometres to the summit, where it got windier and cooler, so a shell jacket is a must!
After reaching the top, we returned to the Eagle Nest and then took the chairlift back down. If you choose to hike back to the village, the total distance is around 20 kilometres, so be ready for a full day!
* You can not buy a descent ticket at the top, please buy a one day ticket at the bottom.
The views from the summit were breathtaking, making the effort worthwhile. I highly recommend this hike for anyone wanting to experience the beauty of Australia’s highest peak!
