St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg is a Russian port city on the Baltic Sea. It was the imperial capital for 2 centuries, having been founded in 1703 by Peter the Great, subject of the city's iconic “Bronze Horseman” statue. It remains Russia's cultural center, with venues such as the Mariinsky Theatre hosting opera and ballet, and the State Russian Museum showcasing Russian art, from Orthodox icon paintings to Kandinsky works.

Museums
Museum founded by Catherine the Great, housing huge collections of art, culture & antiquities.
Slide 1 of 8
This is one of the most stunning Museums I have ever seen, it is extremely bigger than any other museums I have visited in many countries around the world. The whole belongings of Catherine the Great are exhibited here and you need more than half a day if you really want to see all and everything. It is without doubt the most beautiful and rich of art museum in the world. Expect waiting time of half and hour during week days and up to one hour waiting time during weekends, however it is worth waiting for. It is highly recommended to visit 👌
The State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, is an absolute must-visit for anyone traveling to the city. It’s not just a museum — it’s a journey through art, history, and beauty all in one place. Founded by Catherine the Great in 1764, the Hermitage is one of the largest and most impressive museums in the world, with over three million works of art and artifacts. From ancient Egyptian relics to masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, and Van Gogh, there’s something here to amaze every visitor. The main building, the Winter Palace, is a work of art itself. Its grand halls, golden staircases, and lavishly decorated rooms will leave you speechless. Walking through it feels like stepping straight into the era of Russian emperors. Every corner is picture-perfect — a mix of stunning architecture and world-famous paintings. One of the highlights is the European art collection, especially the Italian Renaissance and French Impressionist galleries. You can easily spend an entire day exploring and still feel like you’ve only scratched the surface. Whether you’re an art lover, a history buff, or just someone who appreciates beautiful places, the Hermitage Museum will absolutely captivate you. It’s more than a museum — it’s an experience that will stay with you long after your trip. Don’t forget your camera and some comfortable shoes — you’ll need both!
Holy moly, if this place doesn’t blow your socks off. I don’t know what will. Absolutely amazing this place is huge you cannot see everything and just one visit. I came back a second time by myself just to take the amazing ore of this place. if there is no people around it would be like stepping back in time. It is amazing to think that things like this were built hundreds and hundreds of years ago and to think that this was built for one family it’s truly breathtaking and mind-boggling about the size of this amazing structure. If there’s only one thing that you can do in Saint Petersburg I would say come here. It’s easy a day visit or like me two days just come and see for yourself. It’s amazing.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely stunning experience. The Hermitage is truly one of the most impressive museums I’ve ever visited. The art, the history, and the architecture left me speechless. I loved every minute of it — a must-see if you're in St. Petersburg!
I enjoyed every step of this museum that every galery takes you away from the time. Even cloakroom has a perfect order to control the crowd. The queue took nearly 20 min even it was weekend. Strongly get a map which was distrubuted in many languages before get in. The all building is a kind of labyrinth ✨✨✨
One of the main attractions in Saint Petersburg. Absolutely one of the greatest museums i have ever visited. Ticket costs 509 rubles. You have the option to get the tickets from the counter, or buy the tickets online. Stunning Architecture that makes you feel like you traveled through the time. A large variety of art work. Time needed to visit the palace is between two hours and a half, and three hours. A counter is available to hang your coat, and you get a token. The token number will later help you find the exit that you entered from. Several exits are available and it is easy to miss your dedicated exit. Absolutely a must visit site if you are in Saint Petersburg.
Of course this place is a must see for every traveler. However you should be prepared for min. 3 hours of chaotic travel inside the museum, with many parts having only Russian descriptions. In my opinion the museum should have less expositions and more descriptions.
Must visit in Petersburg. The most impressive museum in the world for me. Seperate at least 4-5 hours for here.

Gleaming mosaics & marble line this richly decorated 1880s church topped with colorful onion domes.
Slide 1 of 8
The interior of the Church of the Savior on the Spilled Blood is absolutely breathtaking. Stepping inside invites a moment of reflection — you can’t help but think about how much time and effort the artists must have put into creating such intricate details, blending colors, and forming the stunning, interwoven patterns. The mosaics and decorations are awe-inspiring, and golden accents shimmer when touched by light, creating a truly mesmerizing effect. Entry is quite affordable, though the place is often crowded. It’s highly recommended to read about the church beforehand to fully appreciate the variety of rare stones used in its construction.
OMG wow, this place is amazing the history is absolutely mind blowing. They have great tours you get a set of headphones and a map and it’s done many different languages. You’ll need a few hours for this place as there is such a lot take in. Everywhere you look there’s something to go well, the mosaics the size of things in here is just amazing. If you come to Saint Petersburg, you definitely have to visit this place even if it’s the only one you visit. The place is just absolutely stunning. There’s plenty of other little touristy thingsto buy outside in a few inside. This place is truly amazing.
In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful places in the city. The place is old traditional and distinctive. Every wall is decorated with mosaic stone, which gives it a very beautiful appearance. The pictures dont give the place how is beauty. It is worth a visit. By the way it's easy to buy and ticket
Beautiful monument and must visit if you are in Saint Petersburg. Located on a river and it attracts your attention from far. A colorful building with special and unique architecture from outside. Tickets are available at the entrance and are available online. Price for entrance is 450 Rubles. The church inside is an absolute masterpiece of art. Colorful walls, and beautiful architecture. You can feel you are walking into a piece of art and being part of it. The visit took me around fifteen minutes in total. The right place to take nice pictures and videos.
This is the most beautiful church I have seen in my life. It is full of beautiful details, this church makes you feel safe and peaceful.
A very amazing place with lively architect and paintings. Highly recommended to visit.
Another beautiful Cathedral located in Saint Petersburg and one of the most famous in Russia along with St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. If you like beautiful historical architecture then do visit this beautiful and picturesque place. Amazing place, Must visit!

Museum
Park
Seafront museum complex in former royal palace surrounded by parkland known for its many fountains.
Slide 1 of 8
This amazing Park and Palace is an expression of Russian Imperial splendor. It was built by Peter the Great as his summer palace. The site is listed as UNESCO World Heritage. As you cross the parking area there is a good handicrafts market, which actually is very good and you must go through while returning from the garden. I visited in early spring, Lush gardens are mesmerizing, with extravagant palace buildings, beautiful golden statues and a cascade of fountains. Vibrant flowers were everywhere in proper layout. At 1 PM, there is some musical show at the backdrop of the palace in front of the golden statues with fireworks and some performance. I visited the place on Saturday; I am not sure the show is daily or only on weekends. We were not able to catch the show as we were not aware of it earlier. We were at the farther end of the park at that time and we reached at the spot when the show was coming to an end, however I witnessed some closing fireworks. This is a must go venue, don’t miss it while visiting St Petersburg.
Not too expensive and it's really really good, so many fountains. So many views. So much green. But during peak times it can get crowded. And so many people taking photos. The big museum is for additional fee, but even the garden is difficult to visit all in one day.
Great but a bit smaller than expected. Takes around 15 mins to walk the entire complex on your own, 45 if part of a tour. Summer season still on as of writing, so separate tickets for the garden, then the palace complex for 3,200 RUB total. You need the garden ticket to enter the compound, turn left, then enter the palace building. No line at ticket counters on a weekday 2 PM. Practically empty. Just 3-4 tour groups and they move fast.
This place is a must see, we had a great time and the weather was amazing. Prepare for long walk all around the park and lots of fountains perfect for the kids.
expensive because you will need 2 ticket just to go inside and for museum separately as well, long walks and expensive water bottles and food. Must say amazing architecture
Opulence turned into landscape. The palace feels like it was built just to prove what human hands can do when given no limits. Golden statues everywhere, fountains that move with impossible precision, and that long axis leading straight to the sea, pure theater. Inside, it’s mirrors, chandeliers, and silence heavy with history. Outside, it’s joy and spectacle. You walk away a little dazzled, a little jealous, and completely convinced that beauty can be engineered.
Fable-like palace displaying the power and richness of the czars. The lavish interiors and the gigantic gardens with their water-plays are a testament to an era of nearly infinite wealth (for them of course not for the country). Impressive
We were on a cruise thru the Baltic Sea and one of the main stops was in St Petersburg. We had most of the day and had a great all day tour organized by the ship. One of the highlights was the Peterhof Palace and gardens. We had tickets in hand arranged by the cruise tour group. The palace was very nice but the gardens were spectacular. Just amazing and so perfectly maintained.

It's absolutely stunning and gorgeous. The building from the ouside and inside is just fabulous. One of the masterpieces of the city. Make sure to buy both tickets, to get inside, and to get upstairs on the observation deck where you can see the city all around. Inside it is so beautiful. There are guides in the cathedral that start a tour every half an hour, maybe, try to stick to one of their groups and listen to the details, a lot of historical information.
Entrance tickets cost 5$ which you can get on the cathedral. Special discounts for students. You be taking almost 170-180 steps going up to reach the upper deck view. It is a place worthy of staying a bit longer once you reached the top. You're lucky if you go there with the sun up if not be ready with a jacket to keep you warm. Sadly the cathedral was closed for inside tours.
So many cathedrals that are so spectacular and amazing and a boggles the mind how these things were even built with their large scale everything from the doors to the front pillars that are 17 t it’s just amazing to think that these were built without machines they were made with hand manpower. Once you get inside and see the amazing mosaics and mighty structures and huge iron doors that weigh around 5 t each. There is an awesome talking tour which you get with some headphones and a little map of the cathedral which is very informative and very helpful to help you understand how much work went into it’s a building of the cathedral, totally amazing if things were built like this these days there would be a lot of amazing buildings not just a normal concrete jungle. There is a lovely little gift shop inside that supports the church. A must do to buy something as I did a nice passport leather wallet and I must say the quality was just amazing like everything else here. It’s so easy to immerse yourself into this culture, St Petersburg is such an amazing pace, with so many awesome things to see. As a foreigner I felt very welcomed and all the places that I visited, so if you’re wondering whether or not to go just do it it’s amazing.
We were on a cruise thru the Baltic Sea and one of the main stops was in St Petersburg. We had all day and signed up for an all day tour organized by the cruise ship. We made just a quick stop here for photos but did not have time to go inside.
Definitely the best Cathedral in Europe, so gigantic and gorgeous! Please go to the top more than 250 steps!
Visited St. Isaac's Cathedral on our vacation to Russia. We were awestruck by the cathedral. The inside of the cathedral is Majestic and it is worth the money you pay.
This cathedral is such a fanatic, adorable place. It’s truly one of the must-see places in Saint Petersburg.
This is a place not to miss and worth to see and explore. I do recommend to buy tickets in advance as there is a line of people and it will take some time to buy them on the spot and enter. Plus is they have for a small fee audio guide so you can explore on your own and walk around. I was really impressed by the beauty of it both from the inside and outside. Also there is a package of tickets to buy which will grant you access to the upper part of the building. Recommend to visit 👌

In keeping with all the opulence the Catherine Park is amazing again I am glad I did not have to fit the bill over the years. But a number of splendid features and it takes a long time to walk around. It took us a few hours to cover all the sites and take in the atmosphere.
Amazing park, need at least two hours to walk around!
Catherine Palace, it is a park in Tsarskaya Village, Russia, located 25 km southeast of St. Petersburg. Catherine Park gets its name from Catherine Palace, and the park is divided into two parts: the Garden and the English Garden. When you come to St. Petersburg, you should take a stroll and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the area
The park itself is nice, but the palace is super underwhelming inaccessible. You have to buy ticket for each small section of the palace, and it’s quite pricey as well. In addition, there is absolute no English translation, no English audio or tour guide, and the staff does not speak any English at all as well.
There are a lot of beautiful places around the world where you will feel happy and relaxed yourself. And Catherine Park is definitely one of those places. I had so warm walk with my soulmate in the amazing place with incredible views just everywhere you turn your head. The perennial trees, ponds, beautiful buildings with a long history. So precious moments of life.🤍
My family's favorite park grounds. We walk the grounds at least once a year. There are lots of fun paths for kids to explore. If you bring nuts you can also sometimes feed squirrels or chickadees. Don't forget to walk behind the palace to the left and explore some lovely gardens with statues there.
Amazing gardens. There are several pavilion to visit and they all have wildly different styles, which makes it fun. Some are available to visit with a ticket (like the amazing Cold Baths, where the Agathe Rooms are located) and some can be visited for free (like the Chinese style pavilion and the Italian Style pavilion with authentic roman mosaics from the 2nd century) Just strolling around is nice, and they are more chilled than Petergof, with lots of locals enjoying the scene.
A dream of a spacious garden. The beautiful Baroque palaces are surrounded by fantastic French and English gardens. There are also various very interesting outbuildings. You have to search in Europe for a long time to find comparable.

Just impressive, especially with sunset lighting. When there in June that happens well after 10 pm...
Palace Square in St. Petersburg is a stunning and historically rich site. Here are some highlights: 1. **The Winter Palace**: Once the residence of the Russian tsars, it features elaborate Baroque architecture and is now home to the Hermitage Museum. 2. **Alexander Column**: The impressive granite column is a symbol of Russian victory and stands at the center of the square. 3. **General Staff Building**: This Neoclassical building, with its grand arch, serves as the headquarters for the General Staff of the Russian Army. 4. **Spacious Layout**: The vast open space is perfect for gatherings, cultural events, and festivals. 5. **Surrounding Gardens**: Lush gardens and walkways provide a beautiful backdrop to the stunning architecture. Visiting Palace Square offers a glimpse into Russia's imperial history and architecture..
Absolutely breathtaking. Every hall feels like a step into another world — from da Vinci to Rembrandt, pure art magic. The Winter Palace itself is a masterpiece. You could spend days here and still be amazed. A must-visit in Russia. 🌟
I majestic statue infront of Hermitage museum. It is also part of the city buss tour if you're planning to take one.
Certainly, St. Petersburg's Palace Square is undeniably one of the most beautiful places in Russia. Situated at the heart of the city, it serves as a focal point for many historic sites, much like Moscow's Red Square. Located directly across from the Hermitage Museum, the square is dominated by the imposing 47.5-meter-tall Alexander Column at its center, making it hard to miss. This expansive open space is a popular meeting point for both locals and tourists, surrounded by many of the historical sites St. Petersburg has to offer. A trip to St. Petersburg would be incomplete without a visit to this iconic landmark of Russia. by: dizzy traveler
Best feeling for me was standing here and looking at the amazing attractions , architecture and design of this beautiful state measuem and hermitage palace with the fireworks on the sky 🥂❤️🇷🇺 Met so many amazing lovely russian friends and family here with joy of smile and best hospitality in Russia . Thank so much guys . Can't wait to visit again in Moscow and st Petersburg . Love you Russia ♥️
It is an amazing plaza known for its gigantic and beautiful buildings. Its the power centre of Saint Petersburg and one should definitely visit this place when visiting the city. Its also the biggest and one of the most beautiful museums of the world. I enjoyed my day in the city a lot.
Beautiful. I went in February in the snow and again in May just before Victory Day. So gorgeous both times. The Hermitage and the square are breathtaking. Pictures from 120 years ago show the Hermitage with a different colour scheme which was more of a brown colour

For restaurants, bars and night life st.Pete downtown is the best in my experience. You have restaurant and bars also on the beach but mostly down on pass a grille. Unless you want to lay on the beach the whole time your there I would advise get a hotel in downtown with a pool and enjoy the city! It’s like being in a little European town almost 🙂 and lotsssss of good food choices and bars! And there’s always south Tampa 30 minutes away which has a lot of good cuisine as well. I’m originally from Clearwater so I grew up in the area 🙂 mayb@Elyse Kihnds has some tips also?
