Best Beaches

1

Eagle Beach

Scenic spot
Best for beach for a day out
Having been named the best beach in the Caribbean several times, Eagle Beach is renowned for its wide stretch of pristine white sand and crystal-clear waters. There are shady spots, beach huts and all sorts of activities, such as yoga, snorkeling and beach tennis, which is a favorite among the locals, especially on the weekends. The sand is super soft and it's a lot of fun, so feel free to watch or join in.
The iconic, photogenic Fofoti trees are often featured in advertising and social media – you've probably seen an image of Eagle Beach and its trees whilst researching for your trip to Aruba.
Eagle Beach is a key nesting site for four species of sea turtles, adding to its natural charm. Some parts of the beach might be closed off to keep the nests safe.
Planning tip: If you plan to spend the day, bring enough cash. Some places charge US$50 and more for two simple beach chairs.
2

Hadicurari Beach

Beach
Best beach for windsurfing and kitesurfing
If you are an adventure seeker or water sports lover, Hadicurari Beach is for you. It is the best place on the island for windsurfing and kitesurfing thanks to its steady winds and calm, shallow waters. Both beginners and experienced surfers come here to have a good time. Sign up for a class and try the sport out for yourself.
Aruba Hi-Winds is a windsurfing competition taking place every summer. It’s the largest of its kind in the Caribbean. Sarah-Quita Offringa is an Arubian 24-time world champion windsurfer who often trains here when she isn’t competing internationally.
Whether you surf or not, make Hadicurari Beach part of your Aruba itinerary and enjoy the show of colorful kites in the sky.
3

Baby Beach

Beach
Outdoor Activities
Reefs
Best Beach for Families
Near San Nicolas in the southern part of Aruba, you’ll find Baby Beach. It’s a wonderful place for families with young children. Thanks to its unique shape, the beach is quite protected, with shallow areas and only small waves. Make sure to stay in the designated areas as the bay opens up to the ocean.
With refreshment stands offering drinks, snacks and serving up BBQ and seafood, you'll be well fed. Rent beach chairs, windbreaks and snorkel gear, or simply relax in the shade of one of the free huts.
Planning tip: Baby Beach is about a 40-minute drive from Oranjestad.
4

Mangel Halto beach

Best beach for snorkeling, kayaking and SUP
Mangel Halto Beach is a great place for adventurers who enjoy snorkeling, kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). And once you're done, spend the evening watching the sunset over a delicious seafood dinner.
The beach is located right next to the road, so it’s not super quiet, but the mangroves and the trillion shades of blue in the water make up for it. There are wooden decks and stairs in some parts of the beach and its surrounding area. Some of it is a sandy beach, some of it is rocky cliffs that aren’t too steep, but as the water is generally pretty shallow, you shouldn’t try to jump in.
Planning tip: Certified scuba divers will enjoy the reef that drops to approximately 30m (100ft) and is home to colorful fish, octopuses and barracudas.
5

Tres Trapi Beach

Scenic spot
Best Beach for Marine Life
You’ll find Tres Trapi Beach – which translates to Three Steps in Papiamento – almost at the very northern tip of Aruba. Malmok Beach, Boca Catalina Beach and Arashi Beach are its neighbors, and they are all beautiful, but if you are looking for a special treat, then Tres Trapi is the spot for you.
Thanks to its clear waters, chances seeing turtles in the wild here are high. In fact, they're almost guaranteed, so bring your fins, mask and snorkel and enjoy the show. Note: keep a good distance from the marine wildlife and never attempt to touch them.
Planning tip: You can drive right up, park and hop in the water at Tres Trapi. You probably won’t be spending an entire day here, though, as there is hardly any shade and the rocks aren’t very comfortable.
Detour: Drive up to California Lighthouseat sunset and enjoy the magical colorful show as the sun disappears on the horizon.
6

Arashi Beach

Beach
Outdoor Activities
Best beach for relaxing
Arashi Beach is especially popular with families because it is great for snorkeling, swimming and sunbathing. Palapas (sunshades) and sunbeds are available for rent, but feel free to bring one from your apartment or hotel, as many offer them free of charge. Beach huts, a lively bar and showers are also available. Occasional live music adds to its charm. The waves and currents are gentle and usually safe for swimmers.
Planning tip: If you enjoy snorkeling, head to the left side of the beach to find marine life.

Places to Eat

Local restaurants & authentic food spots
1

Apotek Speakeasy

Cocktail bar
Bar
Oranjestad
Apotek Speakeasy in downtown Oranjestad in Aruba is an absolute must if you love delicious drinks!! Be sure to make a reservation, ring the buzzer when u get there, and let the doctors take care of you! Don’t forget to ask for the secret tour and check their socials for their nightclub on the rooftop, Medusa! Drinks are delicious, staff is great
2

Zeerover

cheap
Seafood restaurant
Bar
Savaneta
The counter-service seafood spot in Savaneta, on the Southeastern side of the island, is everything you could want in a fish shack. There are dockside picnic tables with water views that would put even the priciest restaurants to shame, with fishing boats pulling up to sell their catch. And, true to the theme, the menu features whatever the fishermen have hauled into the adjacent pier that day—think whole-fried snapper, wahoo filets, and fried head-on shrimp—plus local Balashi beer, best enjoyed by the bucket. Although you’re here for the fresh-as-can-get fish, this place also serves knockout plantains and pan bati, a pancake-like cornbread that’s one of Aruba’s signature foods, and one Zeerovers does best.
3

The Old Cunucu House Aruba

affordable
Restaurant
Caribbean restaurant
Noord
You’re in Aruba, so you’ll need to try its traditional dishes like keshi yena (the national dish, a ball of gouda stuffed with chicken, olives, nuts, and raisins), earthy goat stew, and Aruban-style oxtail soup with its collagen-packed broth. All roads lead to The Old Cunucu House, where they’re serving up the comforting classics with textbook precision. The iguana soup isn’t on the menu, but don’t be afraid to request it—chances are, your server will share stories of how this slightly sweet soup (which is eerily similar to chicken) is truly life-changing. And when it’s in season, order the cactus fruit margarita featuring fruit plucked off the cacti growing right outside. The restaurant is in a bungalow-style space from the 1800s, decked out with original tile, quirky floral arrangements, and a large patio that’s perfect for groups.
4

Wacky Wahoo's

affordable
Seafood restaurant
Noord
Anyone who’s been to Aruba will probably ask: have you been to Wacky Wahoo? This spot near Palm Beach is arguably one of the island’s most visited restaurants, and rightfully so. Unlike many places in Aruba serving fresh fish, Wacky Wahoo is actually owned by a local fisherman. Plus, it’s a step-above-casual seafood joint serving exceptional Caribbean dishes at reasonable prices. The menu changes every day, depending on what fisherman/owner Harald Rudel has caught that morning, but you can always find Caribbean specialties like barracuda, conch, and Aruban fish soup that’s so flawlessly spiced, you won’t even be upset that you had to show up early to grab a table (they don’t take reservations and are always busy).
5

The Dutch Pancakehouse

affordable
Pancake restaurant
Oranjestad
As part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Dutch heritage is strong on the island. Nowhere is that more apparent than in the handful of restaurants that specialize in Dutch pancakes and poffertjes, including, best of all, The Dutch Pancake House. This almost-always packed sidewalk spot serves sweet and savory pancakes that are anything but ordinary. Each one is easily bigger than an adult face, perfect to share, and will be something you think about the rest of the day—maybe even the rest of the year. The provençale is a ham-packed dream with french brie and caramelized onions. The Aruba is topped with rich beef stew, sweet bell peppers, and mushrooms. And the Egyptian has a pork shawarma that’s covered in garlic sauce, making for the most unusual pancake that you’ve ever had, in the best way possible.
6

Quinta del Carmen

expensive
Restaurant
Oranjestad
Fine dining, cocktails and an extensive wine list with international dishes, but also several of grandma’s favourites. Located in a historic Aruban landmark: a 107 year old cunucu house, offering indoor and outdoor seating in the atmospheric garden.
Unfortunately I did not have time to experience this restaurant myself during this trip, but it came highly recommended by many others who did.
7

Papiamento Restaurant

expensive
Caribbean restaurant
Noord
Part museum, part restaurant, Papiamento operates out of a cunucu house that’s over 175 years old. The best spot for this fancy date-night dinner is the outdoor tables set around an illuminated pool and under enormous trees with lights hung from their branches. The menu highlights Aruban standbys, like oyster soup and keshi yena, and entrées served on hot stones. Don’t miss the pan bollo, a take on bread pudding made with a custardy liquor akin to eggnog called poncho crema. After dinner, take a walk inside, which includes a cigar lounge, a 2,000-bottle wine vault, and rooms filled with European antiques from the 1800s.
8

Taste My Aruba

Seafood restaurant
Bistro
Restaurant
Oranjestad
Taste My Aruba is a charming, family-operated seafood restaurant housed in what was once one of the oldest department stores in downtown Oranjestad. They specialize in using as many locally sourced ingredients as possible, including fresh fish like barracuda and grouper. Don’t miss the perfectly balanced ceviche and the catch of the day, served Aruban-style with a side of plantains, beans, and stewed creole tomatoes—fingers crossed it’s amberjack. The best tables are in their open-air courtyard, where you can cozy up under the twinkling lights with a date and enjoy Aruba’s almost always superb weather. The cocktails are fantastic, like the spicy margarita with passionfruit and pink peppercorn, and the Lorenzo with housemade hibiscus syrup and chamoy, and may inspire you to take one of their mixology classes.
9

Bavaria

affordable
German restaurant
Noord
With more than 100 nationalities represented across the island, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Aruba’s international dining scene is so diverse. Enter Bavaria: a casual German strip mall staple in Palm Beach. It might not look like much from the outside, but inside you’ll find some of the crispiest schnitzel, fall-apart sauerbraten, and a stacked list of European draughts and crispy German wines for when you simply can’t look at another piña colada. The dining room is always filled with repeat diners, and for good reason. Though you may not expect to find some of the best sauerkraut and spaetzle of your life on a tropical vacation, Aruba is full of surprises.
10

Driftwood Restaurant Aruba

affordable
Seafood restaurant
Oranjestad
Top authentic seafood restaurant on Aruba with plenty of indoor seating, renowned among locals and fervent Aruba travelers. Not only for the unique wooden interior, but for the authentic Aruban dishes and seafood.
11

Marina Pirata Restaurant

affordable
Restaurant
Savaneta
If you like seafood and are looking for a non-touristic place by the water with direct sunset views, this family-owned restaurant for 40 years is it!
Located between the mangroves of Spaans Lagoon this authentic restaurant has lovely in-and outdoor seating with direct sea views in a quaint marine-style setting.
12

Kulture Café

Cafe
San Nicolas
Located in the middle of the art district in the recently renovated Nicolaas Store Monument, in which the Community Museum is also housed. They serve affordable traditional dishes, specialty coffees, ice cream, smoothies, sandwiches, and more.
Offering indoor and terrace seating, with direct views upon the beautiful murals of San Nicolas.
13

Battata Beach Bar

affordable
Restaurant
Savaneta
This colorful beach bar serves snacks and seafood, but also steaks and burgers for a good price. Not high quality, but nice food and drinks. Also perfect for a night out in a laid-back atmosphere, right on a quiet lesser-known beach.
14

Aruba Experience Café - Pâtisserie

affordable
Brunch restaurant
Oranjestad
Wraps, sandwiches, specialty smoothies, arepas, bowls, salads and many other healthy dishes are served in a traditional Aruban cunucu house dating back to the middle of the 19th century.
Lovingly renovated and turned into the colorful gem it now is, combining authentic architecture and interior, with delicious food and highly Instagram-mable decor.
15

Fisherman's Hut

Seafood restaurant
Noord
You’re in Aruba, which means you’re looking to relax, and the last thing you want is a drawn-out fussy meal. Head to Fisherman’s Hut, a casual, family-owned lunch and dinner spot in the high-rise district with nightly live music and a patio that’s quintessential Caribbean. You can’t go wrong with the local-caught fish of the day that’s grilled, blackened, or fried—you want it blackened so that you can enjoy the top-notch crispy crust—or split a whole-fried red snapper. Fisherman’s Hut is the prime place for when you’re staying in the Palm Beach area and looking to have dinner and not dip into your late-night casino budget.
16

Eduardos Hideaway

Restaurant
Noord
The new sister venue to popular Eduardo’s beach shack, located along the road near Palm Beach. Eduardo’s Hideaway is the absolute best place to go for a casual and quick healthy breakfast. The family behind Eduardo’s had operated several smoothie and juice stands across the island for years before opening their first dine-in restaurant in Noord. The menu features the protein-packed morning staples that put the brand on the map, in addition to breakfast and lunch plates. The tofu poke bowl and tuna tacos are ideal for lunch during a beach break and nothing cures a rum-fueled hangover quite like their pre-packaged cold-pressed juices—they make for fantastic cocktail mixers, especially the Cactus Juice featuring aloe vera, one of the few plants that thrive in the country’s desert-like environment (Aruba was once the world’s leading exporter of it).
17

West Deck

affordable
Restaurant
Oranjestad
The West Deck is built on—you guessed it—a large deck overlooking the water at Governor’s Bay Beach outside of downtown Oranjestad. It’s the ultimate laid-back spot for an easy dinner after a long day in the sand or before a late-night swim at the pool. Plus, if you’re dying for one last taste of Aruba before you drag yourself onto your flight home, West Deck is less than 10 minutes away from the airport. Their zippy garlic shrimp, slightly spicy jerk chicken wings, and crispy Balashi-battered grouper fingers are hands down better than anything you’ll find in the terminal.
18

Mauchi Smoothies

Cafe
Savaneta
At this foodspot they serve fresh home-made sandwiches, bagels, wraps, salads, juices and smoothies with your own choice of ingredients from local farmers.
You can take-away or stay and relax on the covered terrace or swing.

Bohemian Bar & Restaurant

Restaurant
French restaurant
Mediterranean restaurant
Noord
If you didn’t know it was there, you could easily walk right past Bohemian. The restaurant is tucked under sea-grape trees alongside the sidewalk on Palm Beach and has major Secret Garden vibes. If you still have energy to burn after a long day of lounging, take note: this is the best place for a late-night party. Expect a tropical atmosphere with rattan enclaves and thatched palapas, plus a menu that includes fall-off-the-bone tender lamb shank, coq au vin, and a fennel-forward bouillabaisse. While you’re here for dinner and drinks, you should stay for the music. Most nights feature live performers or a DJ, and the bar stays open pretty late, by Aruban standards—until midnight Sunday-Thursday, and 1am on the weekends.
24

CAYA House Aruba

Restaurant
Noord
Caya means “street” in Papiamento, Aruba’s national language—a fitting name, seeing how one of the owners grew up on the street where the restaurant is located. This Latin-Caribbean spot, located inside a garden off a quiet street in downtown Palm Beach, is one of the island’s newest restaurants, and they’re mixing up Aruba’s at-times stuffy dining scene with a menu that’s good enough to stand out in any major city. They have a strong bar menu, especially their take on a mojito, La Chula, made with clarified lime juice and topped with mint foam. And everything is consistently well-executed: order the tostadas, tostones, or empanadas before moving on to the arroz marinera, which is large enough to feed 2-3 people, or the pescado criollo that’s been wrapped and cooked in a plantain leaf. And don’t skip their tres leches, topped with crispy meringues, passion fruit gel, and a buttery cookie tuile.
25

Lima Bistro

Restaurant
Oranjestad
This Peruvian bistro on the Oranjestad harbor is the best restaurant in Aruba, full stop. Though the family-run spot opened in 2021, it’s quickly become a local favorite. Expect a long line of walk-ups, from chefs and bartenders on their night off to vacationers who simply need this to be their last meal before flying home. Prioritize the expertly made pisco sours, ceviche of the day with leche de tigre, the just-charred enough grilled cauliflower with salsa verde, and the fish with yuca purée—if you ask nicely, your server might give you the recipe so you can make the flavor-packed sauce at home. Dessert is non-negotiable—don’t make the mistake of not ordering the crème caramel. And while flan is on almost every menu on the island, theirs flecked with vanilla beans is the most delicious.
26

Olivia Mediterranean Restaurant

Restaurant
Oranjestad
Stylish restaurant in downtown Oranjestad, that opened last year, with a semi-open air tropical patio, serving healthy upscale Mediterranean food.
27

Wilhelmina Restaurant

expensive
Restaurant
Oranjestad
Wilhelmina is on one of the busiest streets in downtown Oranjestad, but when you’re sitting in the restaurant’s lush gardens, you’d never know it. The patio makes you feel like you’re worlds away from the constant traffic downtown, shaded by towering palm trees, overhead ferns, and dramatic lighting once the sun sets. The menu puts a Caribbean twist on international dishes that they pull off with ease, like Caribbean rock lobster that’s served with Aruban-style fish cakes and hot sauce from locally grown Madame Jeanette peppers, Indonesian roast pork with papaya chutney, and risotto made with locally grown white button mushrooms.
28

Faro Blanco Restaurant

expensive
Italian restaurant
Noord
One of the most unique restaurants on the island due to its location at the foot of California Lighthouse. Offering a wide outdoor terrace with a magnificent view over the most northern tip of Aruba towards Arashi Beach.
The historic building was formerly the lightkeeper’s house and is now a traditional Italian restaurant, serving authentic dishes, great wines and cocktails since 20 years. All in a classy atmosphere, with live music and beautiful sunsets every night.

Passions On The Beach

expensive
Restaurant
Noord
If you want to eat barefoot, feet in the sand, directly along the sea, this is one of the few restaurants on Aruba that offer exactly that! Located in front of Amsterdam Manor Hotel on Eagle Beach, adjacent to the famous fofoti trees. They also serve breakfast and lunch on the large beach deck with plenty of seating.
You can have a lovely torch-lit dinner at a table right by the shoreline, accompanied by live guitar music and a beautiful sunset. The menu is extensive with international dishes, vegetarian options and seafood. Children of 3 years and younger eat for free and they also offer smaller portions of many dishes, for a lower price!
30

Elements Restaurant - Adults only

expensive
Restaurant
Oranjestad
This adults-only restaurant is located directly on the beach in front of the classy sustainable Bucuti Hotel.
Elements offers a Sunday brunch from 10.30 am - 2.30 pm and from Monday - Saturday an authentic Aruban/Caribbean lunch buffet from 12.30 - 2.30 pm.
Their beach restaurant is very romantic and even won awards for it. But is also renowned for its extensive wine list and healthy European-style portions, with many vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options as well.
The sunsets here are breathtaking. Although the open-air seating on the deck with à-la-carte options is already very atmospheric, you can also have a special 6-course dinner in one of the private beach cabanas.
31

Flying Fishbone

expensive
Seafood restaurant
Restaurant
Savaneta
One of the only restaurants where you can literally eat barefoot in the water!
Not only do they have tables set right in the sea, but also several on the beach among the palm trees, on the deck overlooking the sea, or inside, your choice!
One of the most spectacular and colorful sunsets.
32

Hadicurari

affordable
Restaurant
Breakfast restaurant
Italian restaurant
Noord
Located between the Holiday Inn and Marriott Hotel on Palm Beach, opposite to the Fishermen's Pier, which is worth visiting as well. With many seating options in-and outside, with great sunset views, it's a very atmospheric setting. With an outdoor terrace situated on the most palm tree abundant beach of the island, lined with lights, need I say more?
The service is great and the menu quite diverse with excellent cocktails and seafood, as well as steaks and pizza’s from a traditional brick oven!
33

Barefoot Restaurant

expensive
Restaurant
Oranjestad
Barefoot has a casual European-oriented menu and a big fish and wine selection. Everything is served on the beach in between the palm trees or semi-inside, under the palapa.
34

Arashi Beach Shack

Restaurant
Noord
As the name reveals this casual shack is located on Arashi Beach, one of the best local pieces of paradise. This beach is very wide and mostly used by locals, due to its location way up north, near the light house, and therefore hardly gets crowded.
One of the best beaches on One Happy Island and although the shack mostly offer snacks, fried fish and hamburgers, it’s quite good and very atmospheric.
Perfect to enjoy simple food and cocktails while watching the sun set.
Note: the kitchen closes early, around 6 pm, depending on the time of year!
35

Big Mama Grill

affordable
Bar & grill
San Nicolas
Similar to my previous recommendation, this shack is located on a local beach at the other end of the island! This little bay in the south is nothing but spectacular, especially seen from above.
Due to its wideness it doesn't get crowded at all, even in the weekends.
At this beach shack they also mainly offer simple food, platters and cocktails by the beach, but the vibe is relaxing and the atmosphere good.
36

Bugaloe

affordable
Bar & grill
Noord
Not beachfront but Bugaloe is a fun, casual over water restaurant on a pier on Palm Beach. Perfect for Happy Hour and a great place to watch the sunset. No reservations. Just claim a spot and enjoy.

Search for gold at Bushiribana and Balashi ruins
In the 1400s and 1500s, many headed to Aruba and the Caribbean in search of wealth. As a result, there were a few gold mills builtaround the island.
Still partially standing today, these ruins offer an insight into the gold rush history of the island. With 3 million pounds of gold found on the island, there’s every chance something is left to be found at Bushiribana and Balashi ruins in Aruba!
From the North Shore to San Nicolas, go sightseeing with exciting bike tours
For when you’re over the mundane walking tours and searching for a fun way to explore Aruba, bike tours come in handy!

Experienced cyclists, test your endurance with a 75-kilometer ride around the entire island!

Arikok National Park

National park
Nature & Parks
Arikok National Park is a vast expanse that covers nearly 20% of the island. Visitors will be surprised by its arid, cacti-studded starkness at first, but there is hidden life within. Everyone who wishes to enter must stop by the Visitor Center to pay the conservation fee, but the center is also a great place to speak to park rangers, pick up maps, and learn about the flora and fauna you'll encounter.
Arikok National Park Tours
You'll likely see wild goats and donkeys, but colorful parakeets, lizards, iguanas, rare Aruban rattlesnakes and "shocos," elusive little burrowing owls, are more difficult to spot; take a guided hike with Aruba Nature Adventures to sleuth them all out.
If exploring the park on your own, a four-wheel-drive or high-clearance vehicle is recommended for the off-road trails. But note, new laws now prohibit personally driven ATVs, UTVs and motorcycles in the protected nature areas for environmental reasons. You can also tour some of the park on horseback with The Gold Mine Ranch.
Many who visit Arikok find the cave explorations to be a highlight (ask park rangers for a tour). Though the beaches within the park are not swimmable, the primal scenic coasts are romantic and ideal picnic spots.

For travelers who have never ridden a jet ski before, be shown how to drive the watercraft, or if you’re a regular, tear up the waves and zoom around the ocean at your own leisure.
Attempt windsurfing and kitesurfing
Windsurfing and kitesurfing are the two most popular water sports in Aruba, thanks to the island’s idyllic conditions.
Not to fret if you’ve never tested either; windsurfing in Aruba, as well as kitesurfing, are suitable for all levels, with private lessons available down at Hadicurari Beach, i.e., Fisherman’s Hut.
(In fact, annual windsurfing competitions are held here!)
Over two hours, you’re shown how to use the equipment — either a kitesurf or windsurf board — and then there’s supervised practice time with your instructor in the water.
Kitesurfing in Aruba is slightly different from windsurfing because the kite is attached to the back of a boat.

Where there’s crystal clear waters and marine ecosystems, you’re bound to find plenty of wild fish. This is definitely the case in Aruba, as there are schools of tuna, kingfish and barracuda – if you know where to look.

See out the day on a sunset cruise
Catch a Caribbean sunset aboard an old sailboat, as you see off another wonderful day in Aruba. With an open bar, you’ll have a drink, as you watch the sun go down over the water.
