We first visited Oklahoma City in 2024 and were pleasantly surprised by all of the interesting things to do! So to help others who may not have visited OKC yet, we're putting together this Weekend Guide (though the 1st night is spent in Fort Worth b/c that's the way we came up)!

General tips

From what we were able to gather during our visit, OKC appears to be a city that has experienced a steep decline from its "good old days." BUT, it also appears to be a city that is actively making efforts to improve, and of course the arts community appears to be very active in helping to make the city beautiful by turning what would otherwise be an unsightly alley way into a trail of art worth seeing.

Day 1

A Night in Fort Worth
1

Fort Worth

We drove up from Houston and so stopped over in Fort Worth for a night in order to make the drive up to OKC more palatable. Fort Worth has a wonderful downtown area that is definitely worth taking some time to explore.

The Sinclair, Autograph Collection

Must go
Hotel
We stayed at The Sinclair, a 4-Star hotel located in downtown Fort Worth. The building is beautiful (art deco) and historic. It also houses the restaurant below. Oh, and the hotel is very tech forward, which may be a selling point for some.

Wicked Butcher Fort Worth

very expensive
Must go
Steak house
We ate here for dinner. The food was delicious, though we do recall the seasoning on the steaks being a bit heavy. We also really appreciated the great service.

Day 2

Hello OKC!
1

Fort Worth

We grabbed a coffee and explored the downtown area in the morning before getting in the car and heading up to Oklahoma.

2

Oklahoma City

From the web: Oklahoma City is the capital of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It's known for its cowboy culture and capitol complex, surrounded by working oil wells. The reflecting pool and empty glass and bronze chairs of the Oklahoma City National Memorial recall the victims of the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The Survivor Tree, an American elm nearly destroyed in the attack, is also part of the memorial.

Museum of Osteology

Hidden gem
Museum
This is located on the southern side of the city and would be easy to miss. We were told that many of the skeletons on display are helped along in their preparation by flesh eating beetles (which you can see happily at work near the museum's entrance). The museum is small but packs in a lot of exhibits and we thought it was a great visit overall.

Bricktown

Sights & Landmarks
Neighborhoods
After spending time at the museum, we made our way over to Bricktown to explore the many shops and eateries at this location. From water taxis to a baseball stadium to putt putt, this area has plenty to offer and seems very family friendly.

Vast

very expensive
Must go
For dinner, we ate at Vast, located on the 49th floor of the Devon Tower (which is the tallest building in all of Oklahoma). The views were great and the food was tasty. We tried the bone marrow and it did not disappoint.

The Skirvin Hilton Oklahoma City

Must go
Hotel
We stayed at The Skirvin, a 4-Star hotel located in downtown OKC. The building shows off its history (and even has a mini Lego replica of itself on display in the lobby)! The beds were super comfy!
