It's been a staple favorite for a long time! Amazing artifacts treated with the utmost respect. Beautiful grounds and ambiance. I feel they could inject so much life and funds into the place by hosting more events that align with their principles. Having local artists come in and create art based on the grounds and artifacts, having merchandise for sale, Egyptian, Esoteric and Rosicrucian would bring more revenue into the place and provide much needed funds for restoration of the almost 100 year old grounds. So much potential for community and beauty in this space made so beautiful by the combination of grounds and buildings. If available I'd be bringing home pieces to remind me of one of my most favorite museums in the country!

Also I enjoyed the first exhibit that we walked into which had a lot of bright and vibrant art but after that I found much of it pretty forgettable. If you follow the directions to "Los Gatos Creek Trail", you'll end up at a parking lot where they require your dollars to pay, which of course, I just parked on the street and walked in. I would highly recommend visiting that country too! I went over the weekday on a Monday which 99% of the buildings were closed. They only open the buildings on certain days. I think it was the weekends. But I do recommend going to take date or if you’re into getting to know the city and explore what looked like the city of San Jose.

While on the trail, around the northern section near Hedding St, an off-leash dog ran out from around a corner and attacked me! It bit my leg, unprovoked and broke the skin. I would consider this trail to be dangerous if you are running/walking, and would not recommend for anyone, unfortunately. It's shocking how neglected it is. And the homeless/mentally ill really add a lot of tension to what should be a nice park (it's large at least).

Almaden Lake Park is a little oasis in this increasingly digital (all?) world we’re living in. My mom lives within two miles of this park, so I’ve taken her here for nice walks and picnics. I’ve been here over the years for the fishing - when catching fish is not really the goal. It’s very nice to take a bit of fresh air around beautiful scenery, ducks and geese, kids playing on the several playgrounds, people exercising, couples spending time together, families enjoying the MANY picnic areas (there’s more than you could imagine), people trail “hiking,” people playing bocci ball on the bocci ball courts(!), and more. There’s so much going on at any time, yet it is somehow tranquil. You can have the experience you need with every visit - at the same place. The nicest thing is that you feel miles away from the throngs of white Teslas that start lining up and clogging the roads for rush hour around 3pm, yet you are mere minutes away from Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. We can all use a break - from work, clients, WiFi, city sounds, traffic, etc. - and this place has the amenities and scenery to give you that chance to unwind…without driving for hours to get there if you live or visit the South San Jose area.
